    That 5200G is 🔥. 5124 is nice as well and easier on the wallet. Not that any of them are inexpensive.

      Yes, that and the 5098R-001. Both are part of the Gondolo line they no longer make. Take care, Bill

    The 5100G with the blue dial and 10 day power reserve is my favorite - maybe among all the Patek watches. The version with the rose-gold and black dial is equally impressive. 5200G is amazing too.

    • @watchartsci

      Yes, Yacov, those are nice. Here's one I like, especially pre-2009 when they didn't have the silicon hairspring: www.jaztime.com/patek-philippe-5098r-001-gondolo-32-x-42mm-gold-guilloche-arabic-rose-gold-leather-manual Their prices have shot over recently, but I hope they come down eventually and I can find one. Take care, Bill

    Hi Bill
    I’m fortunate enough to have a 5124 since 2017 and it does sit a bit small on the wrist and scratches quite easily but is still a piece of art and a pleasure to wear.
    I’m sure you are aware that at the turn of the last century the gondolo jewellers had a monthly raffle for a Patek as they were popular and scarce.They apparently had a club that members paid into monthly and a raffle when the allocation arrived for members only for the one Patek that arrived.
    I’m a font of useless information.
    Regards and keep up the good work plenty of us nerds enjoy your channel.

      Hey Beanz, thanks for that! A 5124 with a salmon dial is still one I'd like ... but it's (unfortunately) one of many. I've got to go through my collection and sell everything I never use... Take care, Bill

    Salutations Bill! I particularly enjoyed this video as it profiles two of my favourite Pateks, the 5111 and the 5124. To my mind, both look best in yellow gold (which I know seems to have fallen from favour somewhat) although the white gold variants are also very attractive. At present they remain firmly on the “one day, perhaps” shopping list because both are, as you rightly point out, rather expensive. That said, never say never.......

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  4 года назад

      Shaver, I like yellow/rose/red/pink gold too ... white gold looks like stainless steel or platinum - I cannot tell the difference between the three. I didn't think much of the 5111 when I first saw it, but since I saw one in a collection I reviewed, I've come to like it a lot! The calibre 215PS is a beautiful one, but with a solid case back I didn't get to see it. Here's one for sale that has both gold and platinum in the case: www.secondtimearoundwatchco.com/watches-for-sale/a/a/12166 There'll be one for you. Cheers, Bill

    Guten Morgen Bill, thanks for another great video. As I learn more about watch collecting , I started to a have greater appreciation for rectangular shape watches. I researched the case diameter for 5098R and I found it’s 42 x 32mm. I bet it looks much nicer up close & on wrist. I like 5124 & I see some similarities that is shared with Cartier tank solo, 5200G also looks good. Thanks for the story and the history, you are great, cheers!

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  4 года назад

      Thanks Marc. I don't see how it would wear small (as I was told) with those dimensions. The 5124 does have that Tank-like shape, and so does my Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece with the Jaquet 736...and it has an exhibition window. Still I'd take the 5124... Take care, Bill

    Hello, for my standpoint shaped watches need shaped calibers, like the beautiful 9-90 for PP. Round watch ...round caliber...It is a sort of harmony and coherence from manufacturing conception. Furthermore, no "donut" for centering caliber into oversized case. Stay safe. Take care.

    • @johncarlobellotti8611
      @johncarlobellotti8611 Год назад +1

      @@watchartsci hi Bill- thank you for the reply. I really like it as a watch. I have the Rose Gold version with the black Alligator (or Croc - I forget) strap. It does wear quite small to be honest and I reckon my wife could easily wear it. It is extremely understated as a watch and quietly screams class in my opinion. It’s NOT brash, or sparkly or even well known as a watch but it is a PATEK with everything that brings with it. I bought it when my mother died with money she left me. I don’t wear it all that much as I try and put all my watches in rotation. Can you tell me much about the history of it? There is NOTHING a about it at all online on RUclips for example. I would send you a photo of it but I don’t seem to be able to reply with a photo.
