Both are beautiful and of the highest quality finishing. If forced to pick, I’m team VC. It’s a statement piece (as I feel all watches should be). It’s iconic and 100% unique. It’s a clear winner for me.

Nice presentation as always Tim. Both great pieces. However if you want a rectangular watch for me it’s the reverso every time out.

Nothing can beat Vacheron Constantin for me not even a Patek Philippe. Just a matter of taste. VC is amazing and a beauty on hand.

Love the VC. I'd put a different strap on it though...Not a fan of blue leather straps.

Interesting, I've found navy/blue straps give a watch a younger feel if you're a younger guy. I replaced my JLC ultra thin reserve de marche with a navy and I find it suit me better as a 28 year old.

While both are beautiful pieces, the 1921 is singular and unmistakably VC, whereas the Gondolo plays in a field crowded with Reversos, Tanks, Cabarets, and Cellini Princes, to name a few.

Joseph C. Chang, the 5124 case shape's rectangularity is the only thing in common it has with those you cite. It's double cambered case and crystals and perfect integration of case and shaped movement just can't be found in those other lines The VC is evocative of the 1921 vintage reference but not of VC generally but I do agree that it is singular and unmistakable.

The Patek still looks different though with its stepped art deco design.

Love the VC, but why is there no consistency between the positioning of its hours/minutes main dial and its seconds sub-dial? The main dial is "rotated" 45 degrees clockwise from vertical, but the sub-dial is not "rotated" at all, in relation to the watch case. Don't most wearers like to look at both dials in tandem, or simultaneously?

VC beats the PP. Case back needs more depth in the VC, but simplistic and clean. 40 mm though. PP? Nice blue and better case back.

The PP looks too small on a mid-larger wrist.. I nearly bought one . But the 1921 in Rose is a stunner with real presence

VC all the way!!!!!!!!!!! Love it I'm always love & support VC felt among the 3 hole trinity they mostly left behide. This 1921 goes head to head with Lange 1 to be my holy grail. PP case size design is of their ladies 24 except is bigger, but for any rectangle watches,,, jlc reverso owns this sector. Great great review Tim great comparison video.

Alvin, do me a favor, go try on the 5124 and any Reverso, there is just absolutely no comparison in fit, style, elegance, versatility and, yes, even freshness. The 24 is a wholely different watch, you are completely ignoring the perfect integration of shaped movement and cambered construction.

This is a difficult choice for me. I love the Patek blue dial, the movement and price. The VC American is so unique I just gotta to go with that. The blue numerals against the white dial is beauty, combined with the blued hands is killer. I love this watch!! Unique case design and the coup de grace is the location of the crown and the dial rotated 15 degrees makes this unique. P.S. After I re read my comment maybe not so difficult, VC for me.

I prefer the VC myself. It’s unusual case design is something no other watch in my collection has.

Two fantastic watches! The 5124G is actually far more versatile than the VC and, for that matter, round Calatravas The Patek can be worn in any situation, except water related, with any dress and by any age group. The 5124G is probably the most under appreciated all round watch on the market.

I'll go a bit against the stream here (or should I say with it). The VC though an iconic design and an absolute stunner takes a back seat (no pun intended) in this one. PP for me, I can't quite tell why but the gondolo is the only square (rectangular) watch I really like. The Reverso, the Tank, the Monaco are all great great icons but I've never found myself to truly desire any of them, the PP, however is that watch for me. I will never own one but hopefully you get the point.

the VC was designed to be worn on the underside of your wrist, for checking time with your hand grasping the large, in your face 1920s steering wheel.
    jus sayin.

I generally prefer the aesthetics and design of Vacheron over Patek, but maybe not here. I just think that crown sticking out at the “top”, could be problematic.

6:50 - I am quite sure those artisans are, actually, developing both carpel tunnel syndrome and eye strain. Anyhoo...Patek wins this by a mile for elegance of design (but I wish it were platinum, too). Three colors never go out of style - black, blue and grey...White goes out of style every year between Labor Day and Memorial Day.

  • @DavidDatura

The Patek has the nicer looking more sophisticated movement. But overall I much prefer the VC here. Which isn’t usually the case when it comes to this very conservative brand. It’s a much more interesting and unique looking watch compared to the Patek here. One of the only designs that is distinctively VC...their RO so to speak. The Overseas is more generic in its design and doesn’t stand out anywhere near as much. But it’s not flashy either. If I were to have only one VC, it would be this, no contest!
