While I much prefer RWD or AWD... At least this Integra Type S has one of the best FWD setups out there between... Using a dual axis strut front suspension. One of the best mechanical Helical LSD's available. Very wide 265 mm Michelin PS4 tires... Plus, with the adjustable adaptive suspension, you can set the suspension in it's stiffest setting which helps prevent some of the weight transfer to the rear tires upon take off, versus a softer suspension that will allow more of the weight to come off the front tires. For a FWD, it's pretty darn impressive! I would definitely buy one if I were in the market. I like the Civic Type R, but I'd want to remove the rear wing... This is that car, but with more features as well. $52k+ is pretty steep for a car like this though. Freaking inflation is mainly at fault for this though. Anyway, as usual, great review of an amazing machine, Matt! Very nicely done! 👍
*Flame suit on* I keep seeing to the same comments over and over again which I think completely miss the point. 1) Not AWD. If you want AWD you have the TLX Type S which would probably fractionally more expensive than what the price would have been with a SH-AWD ITS. You're missing the point. It's supposed to be a nimble canyon carver which is able to keep up with cars double it's price in the twisties, not a 0-60 queen where you can brag how fast it accelerates from a stoplight. 2)Moonroof. I'm actually happy there isn't one. Less weight, less things to leak/fail and realistically they are useless. Next to no air comes in and if it's open, more often than not you get bad glare from the sun. Why do half measures, buy a convertible if you want the wind in your hair. 3) Value. Buy once, cry once. Don't get me wrong, F**K dealers who sell it for a dollar more than MSRP, don't buy it, but those claiming it's too expensive for what it is (at MSRP) have probably never owned a Honda/Acura. Yes they are declining from their glory years but for someone who intends to keep the car for more than warranty period, the IT-S *should* easily give you 10 years of redline fun with nothing but scheduled maintenance. With the exception of the GR Corolla, there's no other car remotely similar in nature or price point that will give you that kind of long term value.
Acura already has the SH-AWD system, just slap it on. AWD will help immensely with the handling. It will eliminate torque steer. No amount of engineering will get rid of torque steer. When a vehicle accelerates, the weight transfers to the back wheels, and the back wheels is were there is traction. The AWD will help with that. It also helps with control and safety overall. For all these benefits, I would not mind an extra 500 pounds and an extra $5,000 to the price.

I think a true sports car does not need a sunroof. Thats what they have roadsters for. I really never used my sun roofs or moon roofs ever. My opinion only for me. 🤷🏻♂️😂
First off it’s not perfect. No sunroof, no rear vents or usb plugs and no ventilated seats. Shit is a Acura. It’s a luxury small sedan. Those things are a no brainer.
I have a 17 FK8 and 98 ITR. I find this car a bit contradictive with the flares and crackling exhaust. Yet the car has seats that won't support you for the track and softer suspension settings compared to the FK8/FL5. As mentioned in the video, it seems the Type S was built for street use and is an exercise in maxing out the sales of this platform by reusing the the same chassis, engine, transmission, brakes, suspension etc as FK8 and FL5. I'm sure they will sell plenty. On the upside, Type S sales may lead to slighly reduced FL5 demand and increased availability.
Great driving car, superb. However, both the type s and a spec are loud on the highway, noise coming from the rear. Personally, its a deal breaker for me as i will be taking this on long trios. Even only a 1 hr drive would bother me with how loud it was.
Hey Matt always appreciate your videos and thoughts. I have a 2020 FK8. I am first in line with a deposit to a dealer that is selling it to me at MSRP. Do you think the Type S is a step up? Can you please compare the FK8 to the Type S ? I would really appreciate your input.
Congrats on finding a great dealer and being first in line! Obviously the Type S will feel pretty similar to the FK8 from a powertrain standpoint, but to me the shifter is even a little bit better, the exhaust is way cooler, and the suspension is a bit more livable, even though the refreshed FK8's comfort mode is also very good. It'll be fairly small, incremental improvements in driving dynamics. But you also get the much better infotainment system, the fantastic stereo, more comfortable seats, more sound deadening, etc. Everyone's preferences are different but I'd 100% upgrade to a Type S if I had an FK8 and had the extra money to spend on the upgrade.
Depending on the condition of your FK8 and how many miles it has, you can probably get over what you paid for it by selling and come out ahead as long as you aren't stretching to pay for the ITS at msrp.
@@dsher503I am hoping that is the case. My red Fk8 has been babied. It has 16k miles on it. The stock rims have 500 miles on them. Car has ceramic coating and never been to the Carwash. Hoping to either sale or trade it in for the Type S .
Call my Acura dealer and they are asking for $67k. Jajaja. I wont return to this Stealership. They will impact the market and the car itself. Nowadays, with interest rates for cars around 7 to 9% for sure we will have a lot of repossessions in one or two years.
Easy choice. Just RWD or FWD. Such different driving experiences. For a fun, special car I'd take the CT4 anyday. For a daily that's 20+ thousand cheaper the Integra wins.
I agree with @dasher503. If you've got the extra $15k+ to spend on the Blackwing and can live with RWD in your area, Blackwing is the way to go. It's almost an extra 150 hp lol.
WrxFan, in my Porsche 718T, the more fun exhaust noise ends when it is in its most performance setting. Maybe the S controls the exhaust when it needs to perform for max efficiency of thrust.
Matt, curious why you think Honda is limiting production of the ITS? A dealer I have a deposit with says they are only getting an allotment of 9 cars this year. Corvette seems to be able to match production with demand for the Stingray. As a result of limiting production, all Long Island dealers are charging an ADM, but it is not as bad of the CTR's ADM
SavageGeese mentioned in their video that Honda is limiting it, I’m assuming partially because they can only build so many of these engines and Type R is the priority, and partially because they don’t want it to be too common. I don’t have any solid info on why though.
Thanks for the answer. I am getting stuck with $2500 ADM for the ITS. At least that is cheaper than any ADM I have seen on a CTR. I'm curious why you say the CTR is a priority when Honda can make $7k more on each ITS vs CTR? I think the profit margin on the ITS has to be greater.
It's not about profit for this car, it's because the Type R is sold internationally and the Integra is only sold in North America. Honda is more worried about fulfilling the huge demand globally, which is why Japan sales are prioritized for the Type R, making them scarce here in the U.S. Pulling engines from the Type R when there's way more demand for Type R than Integra would be counterintuitive for them.
Saw it in person and test drove it...probably one of the best looking cars/sedans i have ever seen...It is really flat and planted....very punchy in the mid range in 3rd gear. JUST fun! by the way its way more planted than the cadillac V which I test drove as well...not even close!
This car is much better looking than type R. Looking at this you know it's type S, when I look at the regural civic I don't know if it's a type R or regural civic until I see wing or brembos. But then again it's Honda not an Audi
AWD would be wishful thinking as the Integra/Civic platform wasn't designed for SH-AWD. However, the 10-speed automatic from the TLX Type S would've been reasonable. We know that transmission can pair with the CTR-related 2.0T from the TLX A-spec/prior Accord, and it can handle at least 355 hp/354 lb-ft from the TLX Type S. Perhaps Acura has that in the works?
@@TheBreakfastLover i dont think the 10at would fit in the type R subframe, not especially with the R specific front suspension. also honda doesnt have an lsd for the automatic
Nothing better than surveying the trusted reviewers that all comment on different stuff, nice to see you cite savagegeese, but I like that you each contribute something different to a review and purchasing decision!
Ever since I saw the first release videos of this car, I wanted it. Went to Acura of Fremont, but none available to drive. Drove a TLX A-Spec and really enjoyed it. Might go back to drive that Type S while I wait to drive an ITS. I think Acura is making great cars for the money. Looks are subjective, and to each his own, but the ITS and TLX S are good looking cars to me. As an aside, drove a Lexus IS350 FS at the dealer next door. Not a fan. Salesman sat in the car with me. Automatic negative. Acura guy just gave me the keys and said enjoy - the way it should be.
I HATE when they do stuff like this. Buying the top of the line I should have everything they offer. Memory seats , sun roof, rear vents, ventilated seats etc smh Acura
This looks great!!! I'm digging this blue. I had a '94 GSR back in the day and loved it. I'm not in the market cause i have an IS500 but this is impressive. Nice review Matt I can live without the crackle and pop... it's too gimmicky to me.
@@ii_dynasty I can agree about sound but those crackles and pops are annoying to me. I just watched a video saying it's often manufactured into the car
Still would personally prefer it to have been AWD, there’s not much that differentiates this from the Type R since the Type R is already a nice car inside and out.
It would be much heavier and would need more Hp to feel as quick, and that’s would also mean much more expensive. If I’m going to spend $70k on a 4 banger it would be an AMG
Totally different missions and driving experiences. Want a bigger, heavier luxury cruiser that's still sporty? That's the TLX. If you want more engagement, a smaller, lighter, more nimble car, then the Integra is miles better.
@@MattMaranMotoring Matt, I agree with the above. However, at similar price points (after dealer mark-up) what's your advice, purely from an ~ equal spend? Thanks.
+1 back seat, makes no sense to me to rip it out 🤷♂️, especially when you have more rear seat than both the TLX Type S and CT4-V/BW. Why nerf the 3rd seat?
I recently checked on a local Acura dealership for a price. My local dealer is asking $11,000 over MSRP, which would put it in the same range as a decently loaded BMW M2 or Supra. Yeah, nice car, but not worth $67,000 that local dealer is asking!
@@MattMaranMotoring Hi Matt! I'm a busy father of two. I would actually be in a pretty good demographic to buy a Civic Type R. Currently own a Jetta and a Porsche 993. Great driving car, superb. However, both the type s and a spec are loud on the highway, noise coming from the rear. Personally, its a deal breaker for me as i will be taking this on long trios. Even only a 1 hr drive would bother me with how loud it was.
Yeah, sounds like you want a Mercedes or Lexus
You could get sound deadening applied for a few hundred back there?
Or use that great stereo
You want crackles and pops? Get an Elantra N.
Im glad it Doesnt sound like a popcorn machine... If any of my cars did that , I;d be tuning that racket Out of the exhaust note.. to each his own.
My Elite a spec Canada version is awesome and my type s is awesome
Looks awesome in that color.
I definitely would take one of those over the civic type R if I had the money to blow! 🚗
Almost 1st!
This drive .really put a smile on your face Matt. 👍
Has more power and torque, better interior, better styling. What's not to like?
At MSRP "YES "
The crackling and popping is computer programmed.
Pops and bangs are lame, glad it’s more tame than you thought.
Good luck getting one please and shit is marked up 15k
I think you might have to go to the doctor to get your hearing checked 👍🏻
Yeah 🎉
not bad maggorn PT....not bad maggiegornT......not bad magg.....
Those cup holders in the back are more like testicle holders
Which would you rather own? This or CT4 Blackwing?
Easy choice. Just RWD or FWD. Such different driving experiences. For a fun, special car I'd take the CT4 anyday. For a daily that's 20+ thousand cheaper the Integra wins.
I agree with @dasher503. If you've got the extra $15k+ to spend on the Blackwing and can live with RWD in your area, Blackwing is the way to go. It's almost an extra 150 hp lol.
Definitely the Type S. Not even close
WrxFan, in my Porsche 718T, the more fun exhaust noise ends when it is in its most performance setting. Maybe the S controls the exhaust when it needs to perform for max efficiency of thrust.
Yeah that's probably part of it since the crackles only happened when I wasn't full throttle or high rpms.
The Integra that Acura should have made the 1st time around...
oh hell no. The original Integra was amazing.
Pretty sure he's talking about a year or so ago when they re-released the name plate.
Saw it in person and test drove it...probably one of the best looking cars/sedans i have ever seen...It is really flat and planted....very punchy in the mid range in 3rd gear. JUST fun! by the way its way more planted than the cadillac V which I test drove as well...not even close!
is the MDX type S as fast as this car?
They have to bring this out in automatics next year. I believe they will sell a lot more and faster.
TLX has your name on it.
Whats up with that seat color? Doesnt match the car at all
This car is much better looking than type R. Looking at this you know it's type S, when I look at the regural civic I don't know if it's a type R or regural civic until I see wing or brembos. But then again it's Honda not an Audi
I know the FWD is really good at handling on these but I still wish they were AWD just to give it a little bit of difference between the CTR
@@ShaiyanHossain good point 👍
Nothing better than surveying the trusted reviewers that all comment on different stuff, nice to see you cite savagegeese, but I like that you each contribute something different to a review and purchasing decision!
How much more is a M340i again?
Comparably equipped to this with RWD it's $11k more.
Sunroof is a MUST for any Acura over $50k. Rear center seat is messed up too lol.
I HATE when they do stuff like this. Buying the top of the line I should have everything they offer. Memory seats , sun roof, rear vents, ventilated seats etc smh Acura
They’ll add these features at mid cycle refresh, hike $ another 5-10%, and shoot themselves in the foot with abysmal sales…again! 😆
@@alphabeta8403 🤣🤣🤣 I see NO lies told smh lol
Sunroof just add weight and reduce body rigity. Get the ASpec instead.
Ive owned 2 integra gsr and 2 rsx type s.........I dont like the New Integra unless they make a coupe.
Besides the body style it dont really made a difference with the base acura integra and this one
The biggest difference is how it drives.
This looks great!!! I'm digging this blue. I had a '94 GSR back in the day and loved it. I'm not in the market cause i have an IS500 but this is impressive. Nice review Matt
I can live without the crackle and pop... it's too gimmicky to me.
Having a dead silent performance car is a no.
@@ii_dynasty I can agree about sound but those crackles and pops are annoying to me.
I just watched a video saying it's often manufactured into the car
@@timw2083it really is the dumbest trend in cars since cambered wheels
dealerships are selling this car over $70000. That's a hard pill to swallow for the price range of so many other cars
mf look like a gahhdamn C63, type r, alfa romeo widebody charger
13:02 some pops. Just as you were saying no pops. They're pretty subtle in car. ;)
maaaaaaaaan this car is gorgeous
Overpriced
Still would personally prefer it to have been AWD, there’s not much that differentiates this from the Type R since the Type R is already a nice car inside and out.
It would be much heavier and would need more Hp to feel as quick, and that’s would also mean much more expensive. If I’m going to spend $70k on a 4 banger it would be an AMG
Was that a recently milled road or is the noise isolation really that terrible on these cars? Wow it's awful.
What about compared to tlx?
Totally different missions and driving experiences. Want a bigger, heavier luxury cruiser that's still sporty? That's the TLX. If you want more engagement, a smaller, lighter, more nimble car, then the Integra is miles better.
@@MattMaranMotoring Matt, I agree with the above. However, at similar price points (after dealer mark-up) what's your advice, purely from an ~ equal spend? Thanks.
There's a blue one just like this for MSRP where I live.
13:02 you here the pops… my type S makes pops all over the place.
That was the wind blowing. lol
If they would just reduce the size of that damn grill emblem
Nice review Matt. As an FL5 owner, I really dig Acura's interpretation and probably would have chosen the Type S had both been available.
+1 back seat, makes no sense to me to rip it out 🤷♂️, especially when you have more rear seat than both the TLX Type S and CT4-V/BW. Why nerf the 3rd seat?
Technical reasons the suspension and wider track would not allow the extra weight over it
Did you experience any dash rattles during your test?
This car gonna look even otter with a single exit exhaust...but Acura did a good job
Great job Matt. Did you notice any rev overhang when you shifted gears? Thank you.
Thanks! Zero rev hang thankfully!
@@MattMaranMotoringeven @ full throttle shifts? Thanks!
Yep!
Dont need a sunroof but no rear arm rests or cupholders? That's why even in the 1990s my mom got a Nissan Maxima instead. Smh
It has cupholders in the rear.
I'll take the look over the new hondas sedans & that blue is nice
Very cool looking car
65K HARD NO
I recently checked on a local Acura dealership for a price. My local dealer is asking $11,000 over MSRP, which would put it in the same range as a decently loaded BMW M2 or Supra. Yeah, nice car, but not worth $67,000 that local dealer is asking!
a dealer near me had a $15K markup on their ITS.
I would put the Type r wing on this lol
I don't even watch these anymore. Can't buy one. Pointless to watch.
Except you can, just takes a little bit of research. No performance car will ever be sitting around on lots like an F-150.
@@MattMaranMotoring Hi Matt! I'm a busy father of two. I would actually be in a pretty good demographic to buy a Civic Type R. Currently own a Jetta and a Porsche 993. I have no interest or time to call tons of dealers or haggle over markups and paint protection. In my city there's one for sale, for $10K markup. I want to be able to either custom order a car (like BMW or Porsche) or test drive and buy it off the lot.
@@sjasonwang7384 In your case, a car broker might be the best way to get one. Lots of busy professionals use them to buy cars, and those people do the legwork for you for a small fee. Also, many forums have a running list of MSRP dealers that you simply call once, get on their wait list, and wait.
@@MattMaranMotoringwe all know its a lie
i am american
Perfect but not for much more than $40k. This will be extremely low volume for over $50k.
Nope, already very long waitlists. They won't be able to built them fast enough, every one will be sold.
Subaru WRX fan here...
