  • Here's the next Three-For-All lesson and this time we're taking a look at three licks of a Nuno Bettencourt live solo from 1986.
If you're aware of Nuno's career, you'll realize that in 1986 Extreme didn't have a record deal (yet), so this is an early performance/live solo from this beast of a guitarist.
I really enjoy watching and learning from early performances and live solos like this, as it gives you a glimpse into what the musician/artist would create and perform in years to come.
This live solo is filled with interesting licks, phrases, melodies, and much more. This includes a number of classical music melodies and even a few classic TV show themes - including The Andy Griffith Show (which is cool), but this lesson focuses on some of the terrifying and interesting shred licks that Nuno sprinkled in this showstopping guitar solo.
Give this lesson a view, leave some comments and feedback, and be sure to subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU\m/

When someone says they are a Nuno fan, there's a huge chance they're literally a really great guitarist.
    Thank you for the tutorial.
I have to practice for me to say I'm a Nuno fan. 💪

I think in those days there weren't many guitarists who could create a lick like this, nuno is one of them.. thankyou for the lick bro 👍🤘

The beginning of the 1st lick it sounds like the solo from TURN UP THE RADIO

Really cool. Pornograffiti changed my life. Tremendous guitar riffs, solos, arpeggios, tapping runs. Really caused me to go back into playing in bands and further developing my own music. I’ve seen a 1987 video of him playing Warheads which is first tune on 3rd album. It’s before Extreme 1st album was released.

I enjoy your videos very much. Inspiring, on point and with just enough info that you don't feel overwhelmed, but give you food for thought so you can sink your teeth into your favourite player! Looking forward to each one of them! Thanks a lot

Nuno is just a beast. He has this very unique technique. He throws these little licks and phrases into his playing that gives it a bit of a snarky almost comical touches. Vai does this as well but the two are definitely different. Nuno is one of those players that I can immediately recognize as soon as I hear him playing. To me that is the sign of great player versus a good player. Much like Beck, Hendrix, Iommi, Lynch, EVH....you pretty much know who it is instantly

Thanks for watching and for this comment!
      I absolutely agree!
Those players you just mentioned (especially Jeff Beck) you can identify with hearing a handful of notes or in some cases - ONE note.
To me, that's the sign of a great player and a unique musician, especially these days.
I hear all sorts of great playing out there from modern players, but much of it sounds like a copy or different version of someone else or ideas from the past.
I've always tried to stick with original sounds and ideas by twisting other players music around into something new or different.
That's really the idea behind most of the content on the Late Night Lessons channel - ways to branch out, experiment, and try something new while also borrowing from the masters.
      Stay tuned and thanks again!
      ROCK ON\m/

This is an amazing lesson for many reasons. The first two licks are absolutely accessible, and the third takes some work but can be done. Great for people starting to delve into the style. Also, the way you name things is genius. Too many times the name of the lick itself turns me off. In real life all the players I know that teach usually refer to licks as "The thingy thing" part of that song. Great channel idea and lessons! Solid playing.

This was great, sir. This is the sort of analyzing Nuno's playing stuff I've thought of doing for years but simply don`t have the technique to play this sort of stuff. I`m glad you have taken the challenge. Really enjoyed the first video and can`t wait to see more. Maybe I`ll see you tackle "60% Water"/"60% Masturbation" at some point. I love that thing.

Nuno was 19 or 20 in 1986, and clearly capable of doing a lot technically on the guitar. You can tell by this clip, he really cared about how he sounded and what he played and what he put out there. That diminished lick he likes a lot, I’ve heard him do it many times. Great ear and playing man, I enjoy your take on stuff.

LATE NIGHT LESSONS, There is a guitarist named Scott Dalhover from a band called Dangerous Toys. They use a lot of tension chords and his guitar solos uses tension intervals. Take a look at his lessons ruclips.net/video/0biIx_KuRAU/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/nmKRYaYB7XI/видео.html . Be nice one day to make a video about Scott Dalhover he is very underrated
