He's a monster player and I'm interested in hearing what he does apart from Steel Panther (like a side-project or solo album).
Heck, they're doing really well though, so they might last for another 10+ years.
      : )
Thanks for watching and rock on\m/

Great lesson! Yeah, a lot of people don't know about "Satchel's" past before Steel Panther. I remember when Russ was in Varney's Spotlight column in Guitar Player magazine when he was about 16 years old! Back in the eighties we used to trade tapes around, I remember getting my hands on a tape of Russ and his playing was incredible! There's also an old video tape floating around from the early nineties that's now on RUclips where just rips away for like 40 minutes, and it's really cool. Also interesting to note that he was in the Atomic Punks, which was one of the best Van Halen tribute bands ever. The singer from Steel Panther did David Lee Roth in that band. Russ really nails Eddie's playing and all of its nuances incredibly well!

      Absolutely!
Russ is a BEAST of a player and he's hilarious too.

Hi, just discovered your videos and I'm loving this Three-For-All series :D
Can you give any advice on how to correctly do the pull off part of the 6:39 lick? I seem to have issues with pulling off with the pinky, not sure if it's my technique, or just lack of strength/need practice. Should I be pulling off hard or as light as possible?

    • @LateNightLessons
      @LateNightLessons  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks!
As far as the dreaded pinky, I've had to focus on that finger for many years and I was told early on that I needed to use it ("you don't want to be a three-fingered guitarist"), so while I've really used it a lot over the years, it hasn't been easy.
At first, you'll have to focus on using it and it might seem you have to put some muscle (or tendons) behind it, but in time you'll be able to relax and ease up a little bit so everything flows and sounds smoother.
I hope this helps and keep on rockin'.
      : )

I agree with INK that last Lynch lick IS cool.
You said your ear will perk up if you hear something interesting?
Mine did with that lick😉. Especially your twist to the end of the run. It kinda gave us the 🖕 lol.
Russ, along with the rest of the guys are VERY talented. The first song I ever heard from them was "Pussywhipped" and thought it was great, after busting up from hearing the lyrics. I'm hooked on them now. Even more due to this PC society now. Hey, it's all in fun & a breath of fresh air. Being a teen from the 80s, we can all relate.
Thanks again Dave for another great lesson 👍👍

Great lesson, man. Glad you broke down the Lynch lick. I've been trying to figure it out correctly, I've been playing it wrong. I actually recorded him doing this here: ruclips.net/video/Vmy95iXMuWM/видео.html
It's at 1:23 (the first time).
He plays that lick and just rips through. Great player.
