      The logic is that the loss is less than the total cost of employees. Now that losses are increasing the math just doesn't pan out any longer. Combine that with basic greed. That small percentage used to be acceptable. In order to keep margin GROWTH, they have trimmed all the labor they could, volume is stagnant, the easiest target left is reduce loss. Profits were a certain percentage, if that stays the same they're still making money. They just aren't making MORE.

    • @arturocamaney9235
      @arturocamaney9235 3 года назад +16

      Wrong answer, leftist clown. In none of the fifty states do rent-a-cops (aka loss prevention, security, whatever their exact title) have the right to lay hands on you or search your possessions. See the 4th amendment if you believe otherwise. And yes, contrary to popular belief, the 4th amendment _does_ in fact apply to places of public accommodation as well since the right to be secure in your own person is a NATURAL right which cannot be taken away except through due process.
      So no, in CT, store security cannot use "whatever means necessary" to stop the theft. They're free to try, but they'll either get charged with battery or attacked back in self-defense. And if you think for even a _second_ that the suspected shoplifter will be charged with robbery due to choosing to defend him (or herself), think again.
      The woman who was strong-armed by "undercover" (aka plain clothes) loss prevention personnel at an Ikea store in St. Louis ended up having all charges dropped simply because she was grabbed by one of the rent-a-cops. So while true that responding officers and the D.A.'s Office often don't care enough to investigate such matters, there are times when they listen to both sides of the story.

      Imagine if the store negotiated in advance with law enforcement about how to notify them when they see a likely impending shoplifting, so that officers could already be on their way or present outside when the thief exits the building. Would that work, in your opinion?
      Or would that be treated by LE as a nuisance, since at the time of the first call no actual crime has yet occurred, and some shoplifters might abort their theft if the police arrival was noticed (by them or an associate outside)? Too many fruitless calls - so wait until the crime is verified before calling.

      Outside stores there are yellow surveillance machines that can usually just do the job for u….only time they care is if the car is stolen and that leads to bigger arrest I guess everyone understands these are just large company stores n it doesn’t affect the employees or managers so they don’t care…either way there run doesn’t last long either there a super intelligent smart career criminal or usually what it is there just a person addicted to drugs that will either go to jail or die soon… n usually n back then if u would get them in trouble if it isn’t over 1000$ u can’t really do anything they will just be banned from ur store… n even that is a risk cuz if they run they usually do that because they have warrants and those people are already lossed causes so just let em be n they will just use drugs until there death…

      I don’t remember that store or they didn’t have one where I lived. However I know circuit city moved to a similar model for higher priced items. CDs, movies, cases and small priced items stay on the floor. Mid value were in locked cabinets on the showroom floor and higher priced items were rang up/paid for and the item would come out at customer service from the back warehouse. They had working demos that were secured down or behind display cases. The retail industry went to a customer needs to touch it to but it model and self service as ways to cut down cost, but this may actually be costing them more.

    Another time @ home depot i was in the checkout line and i saw a man push a cart thru the door and the alarm bells went off and then he rushed and ran to his truck. The associate i was with call security...but it was too late....guy was long gone.
    All this occurred in Lancaster, Texas...i hope they have the issues resolved. I never could understand why someone can't just buy one lawn mower...and pass the receipt to their friend...who goes gets another mower for free...and then while exiting passes the receipt to another who goes gets another free mower and so on...until the mowers are all gone in 1 hour.

To curtail organized retail crime, incorporate choke points and making the entrance doors entrance only unless there is an emergency as well as adding Public views monitors at every self checkout, the entrances, exits, and pro pickup zones. Also we need state laws all across the United States that will make retail boosting an automatic felony.

    This would be so easy to stop. A big store like HD can afford to put guys in an office watching cameras on each isle. From there they have the ability to shut and lock the front doors electronically - and here's the key - double doors, like banks in Europe have, so the perp gets trapped in between. Security personnel then grab the perp and have an airtight case because the perp was caught exiting the building. Each arrest would take a matter of minutes if not seconds. Wouldn't take long for crooks to get the message - then you probably wouldn't even have to watch the cameras - someone at the door could do the lockdown. Businesses like this are so worried something will go wrong and they'll end up in court, so really, it's the courts that make this possible. Legalize drugs, put thieves in jail instead. Mexico would be thankful if cartels would go bankrupt - so would American tourists and expats. Win-win. Drugs being illegal does next to nothing to stop their use. We have so little vision and common sense in America. It's too easy for them to pass the cost on to the consumer. Always it's the consumer who suffers. And really, in this day and age where every nut has a gun, every large store like this should have armed, trained security at the front door at all times. This is where we find ourselves. Tell that to the HD CEO/owner. Whoever it is has his head up his ass. We should be giving him the middle finger for making us pay for his lack of action.

      I used to think that legalizing drugs was the answer. Try having a friend or relative permanently destroy their brains on meth before you change too many laws tho. It's very easy to get addicted to. If you could buy your first dose at a dispensary for cheap, we'd unfortunately have a WHOLE lot more violent and dysfunctional homeless people than we do - like alcohol but much worse.
      Some drugs might be handled better through legalization, tho. But the drugs which cause the most harm often don't fall into the category, unfortunately.

    All of these stolen goods get sent to Amazon from multiple seller accounts. The stolen goods get put on the shelf right next to legitimate ones and are sold randomly. It is really easy to sell stolen goods on Amazon (not to mention counterfeit ones) because when a seller sells their product it gets pulled off the shelf randomly. It can be the actuall item that the theives sent in or an item from a legitimate wholesaler. Think about how scary this is for food, hygeine products, etc if you receive a counterfeit one with unknown chemicals in it from a reputable seller because the Amazon stock of the product is a mix of real, fake, or stolen products. Buying off Amazon has unfortunately become a direct support of organized crime. In turn you are also funding these crime operations which aren't limited to stolen power tools....think human trafficking, drug distribution, etc.
