Sending a spell card to the graveyard isnt as powerful as sending a monster to the graveyard overall. I believe a stronger point to argue would be foolish burial goods isnt a retrain of foolish burial.
Edit: i believe an actual retrain would be, "send 1 monster from deck to grave, but, you cant use effects of that monster until your next turn". This is a weaker retrain

Another interesting one might be cards which used to be weaker than other cards with similar effects, but as the game progressed actually became more powerful. E.g. Heavy Storm remained legal long after Harpie's Feather Duster was originally banned, but today HS remains banned whilst HFD is now merely limited, because potentially destroying your own backrow as well is often now a benefit rather than a cost. Same story with Premature Burial being legal for some time after Monster Reborn was banned, but being still banned now whilst Reborn is back at 1, cuz of its potential to be looped back to the hand again and again.

Premature Burial got banned because of Hidden Armory being able to search it out. At that point, the TCG and OCG largely shared a ban list so the OCG at that time was in Synchro era so being able to repeatedly get back Synchro materials was pretty broken and these days, you can add Xyz and Link monsters to the mix. It's the nature of the card that makes it broken on top of a really strong effect (the fact it's an Equip Spell so it benefits from Equip Spell support, the fact it's effect only destroys the monster it's equipped to if the card is actually destroyed rather than just removed from the field and of course no hard once per turn which wasn't really a thing back then). Heavy Storm has the floodgate interactions. Being able to turn off your own floodgates while also being able to wipe your opponent's back-row for no real cost is pretty broken. Not to mention being able to trigger your own back-row floating effects.

Desires is largely one of those cards that Decks need to run rather than one they want to run. A few exceptions exist like in Gren Maju Decks.

You would have more of a hard time deciding which card to send to the graveyard than actually feeling inconvenienced or disadvantaged since you could cycle it back without too much trouble. Hold up, Dimension Fusion during the Chaos Era (Chaos Return, I think that was first ban list) was actually considered a Trash UR since it would give back your opponents cards permanently and everyone was basically running the same cards anyway. So unless you had a Raigeki the card was too advantageous for your opponent, RftDD was seen as the stronger card since it gave you an open field to attack for game.

I always looked at D.D.R. as a retrain of Return From the Different Dimension. Instead of flooding the field with 5 monsters, you have to choose 1 without the restriction that it had to be 1500 ATK or less.

2:32 It’s not a downgrade. It’s the Regeki version of “Dark World lightning.”
Just like dark world lightning, it’s a copy of a previous lightning art spell card that was a famous removal card back in the day, with the added caveat of “you discard 1 card.” Like I said I predict they did this not just so they would be illegal for Jackie in the game but also so that this car could be used in synergy with dark world decks.
It’s basically a second Radecki but because I’m assuming it came out at the same time as yugioh GX card you showed before it was an elemental hero card and because this card has a discard effect and mimics a classic lightning removal spell, just like DW lightning. The Dark World archetype also came out during the GX era(in season 3 Bronn kills most of Jaidens friends ❤️)

Metaverse - De-evolution of Terraforming, Trap card so slower however surprising a field spell on your opponent's turn got it limited/banned while mystic mine was legal
Call of the Haunted - De-evolution of Monster reborn, Trap card and SS from only your GY and in Attack position, however it being continuous and no "if this card leaves the field" means you can bounce it and use it again
