That's a great comment. I have seen deer due to the exact same thing. Because the wind is strong, can't trust their hearing as much, move to a more open area. Excellent fact!

going out tomorrow, 3rd hunt ever! going to be windy, 15-30 mph from the N and working a swamp/river area with open grass lands scattered. Cold day in Central Florida as well around 50 in the morning, same with Thursday but 45 in the morning. Going to be doing the 5 step with the zigzag! Wish me luck!

I see you dont subscribe to the camo theory…or at least dont consider it a complete necessity . I enjoyed that aspect of your video. I have had so many doe walk past me when i was wearing ridiculous clothes. But i am a pretty good bush statue when i still hunt

Thanks for the video! Great information. I actually tried your tips tonight and ran into a big buck. I might’ve been going too fast as the buck and I saw each other at 20 yards at the same time. Unfortunately I couldn’t get it done, but the buck never blew out. How do you recommend trying to relocate that same buck? Wait a few days and go back in the same route? Thanks!

      That is exciting!
There are a lot of factors related to relocating a buck but to simplify I either wait a while or go back the next day. I would ask, Why was he there? Were you near his potential bedding? Is it the rut and are there does nearby? There are dozens of questions you can ask all with the intention of determining the likelihood of him being there again soon or not. If he is likely there I would go back in quickly especially during the rut. He may adjust his travel route to a slightly thicker route so consider that. Just like if you get busted in a tree stand and a mature buck will circle downwind maybe 75 yards to check the 'problem area' when he comes through again your buck may do something similar. Imagine his adjustment and counter him. If you are on pressured land (private but especially public) it ups the odds of him being wary and perhaps the situation lends itself to letting things cool down. You said you didn't blow him out which is good. Consider that deer encounter 'danger' pretty regularly but still have to eat and rest. If the spot isn't super remote you might want to head back in right away. Whenever you go back in hang a trail camera (high, maybe 10 ft off the ground, and angled down a bit) and use what you find not only to up your intel on this buck but for understanding deer behavior, in general.
Let me know how it goes. Best wishes!

I only bow hunt. This looks like it would be fun, but what if you walk into a pack of wolves in that thick stuff or a bear? Last week I parked on the side of a road and quick ran out 75 yards or so to a spot I found. No weapons really just a climbing stick and a camera. I walked slow when I got near the spot and I heard a loud crash just ahead in the thick crap. I froze and looked 30 yards to see a black bear that was at least 300 pounds on its hind legs looking right at me. After I shot my pants it barreled about 30 yards away from where it was and did the same thing…then took off. That thing would have ripped me apart! Do you ever have encounters like that or are you prepared for it? I tell you that dam bear would have been up on me before I could draw a gun, if I would have had one…unbelievable how fast they are! Also, can you please make a video of that near death experience you had in the swamp? You talked about it in a video. Thanks!

We don't have wolves where I hunt but plenty of bears. I have had a few encounters with black bears that have been a little unnerving. One involved walking up on a sow with 6 same-year cubs in late spring while scouting a swamp point. Another involved a sow with three 1.5 year old cubs that came into a swamp white oak flat and wouldn't let me leave my stand. She wolfed at me every time I tried to climb down although I eventually timed it just right and got out of sight before she noticed.
These can be unnerving but I have never worried they might attack me. Just don't run and I think you'll be fine. (If you were in grizzly country I would advise differently.) Some carry a hand gun but I do not.
As far as almost dying in the swamp, I will try to make that video soon. It's about the right time...it was too fresh and raw for a while but I think I am ready to share the story soon.
      Thanks for watching!

@SeedstoDreamsDeer What happened to you? Still hoping you'll make that near death swamp video!
