Black dog is British slang for depression, and many people thought the title meant that, but Led Zeppelin said they didn't know what to call the song, so they named it after a literal black dog that was hanging around. I think that makes more sense than depression in lieu of the lyrics.
JPJ has said during interviews that he loved not being well known because he could go for long walks without being recognized while the other band members had to stay in the hotel. I'm sure that felt good while touring and living out of hotel rooms.
Jimmy Page and JPJ had extensive experience being session players in the studio. They also learned a lot about studio engineering and did a lot of Led Zeppelin's studio engineering. That is what gave them a leg up on other bands. They could get the sound they wanted themselves without having to argue with record company engineers. They could tell them to f*ck off, and just do it themselves.
YEEESH they're on fire here! I love how Bonham kicks into a whole 'nother vibe in the guitar solo. This is why you go see live music, kids... not for acrobatic dance numbers on trapeze while the "star" lip syncs
Check out Heart's cover version , and John Farnham's version which is only audio as it was a warm up /mic check. Thank the tech engineer for recording it.
Jimmy Page orchestrated the forming of Led Zeppelin after The Yardbirds. He hand-picked and oversaw every aspect of Led Zeppelin's formation, production standards Independence of the record company managerial Style oh, and don't forget the after party, the Continental Hyatt House in Los Angeles, renamed the riot house
By the Blu-ray or DVD by Led Zeppelin The Song Remains the Same he's got the clips for the concerts got most of the songs for the massive Square Garden concert it's got kind of a goofy movie that they made in the beginning and it is Scott scenes from their life over in England in mixing between it's like a documentary concert and a movie all wrapped up in the blunt and vaccine footage from something was happening at the concert chaos definitely worth buying and having this reference material entertaining as hell
Not my fave by them but still damn good. Dude, check out "Since I've Been Loving You" and "The Rain Song" from the same concert and prepare to be blown away! If you want to see JPJ in the spotlight, check out "No Quarter"
The height of their popularity came after their best was behind them. This show for instance, is a messy performabce compared to the onslought of the live show they released called 'How The West Was Won. That is live in concert audio, not video footage - but it rocks.
HEART/ Ann and Nancy Wilson has done amazing covers of this song which is up here on RUclips. They have done other song covers of Led Zeppelins "Kashmir" and "Rock And Roll"as well as "The Battle.Of Evermore"
You should definitely check out “The Ocean” from the same concert as this… ignore the people asking you to do the 29 minute Dazed and Confused and do the Ocean instead… it’s a little less of your time 😂
The greatest live performance in rock & roll history is Zep's 1973 MSG version of DAZED AND CONFUSED. You gotta see it all the way through - all 28 minutes of it! Unbelievable!
Led Zeppelin ❤🔥 I wonder if you'd like to check out some more female artists, if so then, this is "Cindi Lauper - Time After Time (Official HD Video)"
That was girl not a dude saying come here in the crowd! The camera shows her a lot during the concert! And zeppelin still has the best record deal ever created! Zeppelin got 90 percent of the record sales and concert sales Atlantic records got the rest
Zep is one of those bands that got worse over time , every year Page is more and more of a Zombie , in 73 it already starting to show. Plant is chubby, Bonzo is blacked out. IMO you have to go back before 71. IMO the last great show I have seen on YT was Royal albert hall in 70. Watch that and see the Life still in these guys , the boogie still in their groove. This is still legendary stuff ,,,
That’s not true. They were pretty unbelievable 1969-1973. They were absolutely blazing in 1971. Awesome in 1972. Then go listen to the Spring 1973 Euro tour. Probably Page’s absolute peak on guitar. Insanely fluid and fast for JP. That being said, Plant’s voice did go South in 1973, and Page started to lose it in 1975 with the beginning of a drug addiction and a broken finger. He looks more disheveled (but cool in his stage outfit) and the energy level dropped a lot. But I disagree with your pre-1971 comment and also about Zep getting worse every year. Go listen to 1971 bootlegs: Osaka, Berkeley, Orlando etc. The band was destroying.
They were at their peak during the 72 tour, they were still great in 73 but Plant lost some power and clarity , his voice became more scratchy, his voice was blown out for most of the 75 tour and it got better for the 77 tour but it was not as high.Bonham got better as time went on but he did become a drunk, just look at his playing on Kashmir 79 and all the fantastic fills he added as compared to the 75 and 77 tours. Jones was great all the way through, Page is really the one who took a down turn the most, His playing on the 75 tour was not as good as previous tours, by the 77 tour he was a sweaty skeleton and doing heroin and coke, he was very erratic on this tour but had some amazing shows in LA.and a few other places. I believe if Bonham didn’t die prior to the 1980 tour Page would not have survived that tour, he looked like death during the short European tour of 1980, he wouldn’t have made a full US tour with heroin and all the high end coke that started coming in .
@@dickcnormis1444 I’m afraid you’re right. In terms of chops, Page was just stellar in the first half of 1973, and I think he was great at MSG too. He started to lose it in 1975. Whatever, he burnished his legacy
The definition of Swagger, attitude and greatness
Robert Plant hot as a fire cracker here. Man brought the heat.
JPJ really didn’t like to be in the spotlight too much but he is the secret sauce of Led Zeppelin. Those were the four Rock gods of my youth🥰
I do like John Paul Jones' deal - stand near Bonham, and react to the riot out front & Bonham's groove.
I heard he would even stay in different hotels from the other lads to avoid the madness and mayhem. He would always show up for work, though.
Yes indeed!
He was one of the main writers of this song.
JPJ wrote the riff for this song because he wanted to do something that came back on itself in a circle.
The Dazed and Confused from this show is among the best versions they ever did.
4:15. Robert Plant goes for the stratosphere ! Greatest rock band of all time . Period!
Classic Zep.
There will never be another Led Zeppelin!!🎶💙🎵 Please do "Since Ive Been Lovin' You" from this same concert...the best performance ever!!🎶💙
Totally agree. I consider that song their masterpiece
You can do every song in this concert. They're all bangers.
JPJ is phenomenal he brought bass keyboards, mandolin multiple instruments he is the swiss army knife of Led Zeppelin
They are unequalled...especially live! Notice their perfect timing!
I remember roller skating to this as a fifteen year old and we always joked that we didn't know if his heart was flaming but something sure was.
Thanks for the Led Zeppelin ❤
My favorite band since 69 ❤

Right. They were recording in the countryside and the dog was part of the scenery.
Thanks, never liked the depression meaning, this helps. 😂
JPJ has said during interviews that he loved not being well known because he could go for long walks without being recognized while the other band members had to stay in the hotel. I'm sure that felt good while touring and living out of hotel rooms.
The live version of In My Time of Dying.
And Jimmy produced all their albums!
Time for you to do the entire 26 minutes of Dazed and Confused from this concert !
Yes definitely!
YEEESH they're on fire here! I love how Bonham kicks into a whole 'nother vibe in the guitar solo. This is why you go see live music, kids... not for acrobatic dance numbers on trapeze while the "star" lip syncs
Those guys just kicked complete ass back in the day.
They were like the dream team accept in music not sports.
Song Remains the Same/Rain Song.
🔥🔥🔥 fantastic live
Check out Heart's cover version , and John Farnham's version which is only audio as it was a warm up /mic check. Thank the tech engineer for recording it.
Yeah Biz!! Love this group!!❤
I second the John Farnham version of Black Dog(audio). Our Aussie legend does Zep. Amazing!
Do every single song you can find from MSG
Since I’ve been loving you… PLEASE
JPJ bass is slamming!
Jimmy Page orchestrated the forming of Led Zeppelin after The Yardbirds. I like music

Quite true, John Paul Jones was an important member of the band. An outstanding musician and composer. Indeed, peace.
HEART/ Ann and Nancy Wilson has done amazing covers of this song which is up here on RUclips. They have done other song covers of Led Zeppelins "Kashmir" and "Rock And Roll"as well as "The Battle.Of Evermore"
they also did stearway to heave
You'll notice Robert is wearing the top worn by his previous night's conquest.
I'll put it out there one more time. Hey Hey What Can I Do. Studio version. ❤️✌️
Raw ROCK BRO!!!
You should do reactions to them documentaries you're talking about. That would be dope too. I'm always down for learning something new. ✌🏼❤

Nice to see that being a musical know-nothing can actually get you on RUclips.
