After installing my first aftermarket CD player/Indash along with car audio system when I was young (16 yrs old) & actually wired it all up right the first time & now 32 yrs old still going at it. It's all about knowing exactly how to wire the pos + neg (Positive wiring= one solid color) (Negative wiring= Exact same color as positive wiring only with a "black stripe" which means it's a negative wire) Making sure all pos + neg same color coded wiring is wired together from factory plug & play harness directly to CD or Indash harness is correct,. When wiring 12v red, accessory (ACC) yellow wiring, them wires are connected together to power head unit which includes the "Black" ground wiring that is also allowing power to head unit which the ground wiring is wired into harness from what I've dealt with personal, except when dealing with a handful of other person setups. If it has to be grounded inside dash to metal, an example is finding a factory bolt inside dash to attach & hold ground wiring under bolt tightened will work just fine. The remote wire (subwoofer amp wire) wires to blue neg wire then ran to amp. Illumination orange wiring dims brightness on head unit at dark & vice versa during the day. It's fairly easy to DIY with patience attention & silence lol. I've left things out like RCA's but when running a car audio system the subwoofer amp requires RCA wires to transfer a output & input line from head unit to amplifier.

Some modern cars have delay switched fuses therefore if you are doing these tests within a certain time of the engine running they will show constant power even though they are switched.
If you have the driver's door open while testing the car will ignore the retained accessory function. Because usually when you open the door the head unit will shut off.

@@AnthonyJ350 can it just be incorrect wiring? Because my friend has the same car and he had it on his car, as he claims and said it work 100% with the bluetooth.
+tany vega Take it to a reputable shop that has reasonable rates. If you plan on running a lot of new wire I would not suggest it if you're a novice. Could be a fire hazard or you might get poor performance. Just being honest from what I've seen.
+fcolon1976 No, yellow goes to a constant 12+ line while red goes to accessory. You have to consult your owner's manual incase the wire colours vary from standard colour coding.
The harness that came with my stereo doesn't have a blue or solid orange wire. It has the white and orange wire, so I'm assuming I just connect that to the white and orange wire on the harness kit?
+darktangent10 I figured out that the orange and white wire goes to the orange one on the harness kit. There's just one more wire, it has kind of like a tape on the end that says system remote control. The manual says "Connect to the system control terminal of the power amp or auto-antenna relay control terminal". There is a blue wire on the harness kit that says power antenna...does it connect to that?
+darktangent10 I did a bit of reading and I think I answered my own question. I'm not using a power amp so I'll just leave that piece of tape on the blue/white wire as is. My 2000 Honda CRV doesn't have a power antenna, so I'll tape up the blue wire. I tested everything out and both the radio and aux input work, and the speakers fade front to back and balance left and right correctly. Thanks for the video, it helped a lot!
Nice explanation of color codes, ugh, seen these for years , lol. The only caution I would give to people diving into the unknown, ditch the 9volt battery, and 12V test probe, or bad things may happen when probing the unknown for power or testing for speakers. Multi-meter, not so bad, but still can throw voltages on to sensitive wires "Crap, did the trunk just pop??". Lol. The old school cars, usually no problem, newer models may have digital, delicate signals sent to and from radio units on their harness. In some cases the unit in the dash is not the whole gizmo, may be a controller for a remote trunk/dash mounted amp/IF to complete the system. Definitely best to use a harness/adapter made for the after market application of that vehicle, and follow wire diagrams for tests and installs. Some one or corporation has already ciphered your vehicles wiring no doubt.
Very hard to find and the stupid manufacturers never show end view so you can compare with plugs or the otherside so you can see the wires go into same holes...why would they do that?? So I have done the test light method got all the wires sussed but am left over with 2 grounds, one green with red stripe and fat black

On the JVC wiring, there is an orange/white wire (illumination) on the connector part all there is is a solid orange on the other connector. Do I put those together?
Keep illumination wires apart.
It would great if someone did a non harness install for 05 Chevy classic.
You need a module for those trucks.
Ok I have a 97 honda civic and I connected all the wires correctly but my radio won't start fuses are good and I know the constant cable has power because the old radio turned on please help
Did you test the wires with a multimeter to verify they have power? Sometimes a bad connection will prevent voltage from flowing through. Also is the fuse in the mew head unit good?
Just installed a Kenwood X998 and I tested my P.Cont "blue/white" wire that I'm using as a remote wire and when I tested it with my multi-meter it was coming in at 22 volts, is this normal?
So they do the two orange wires go together ??
On the car harness side? No, one is dimmer the other is illumination if you have 2 oranges on the one wire.
My 2012 Nissan Frontier has like 3 times as many wires than comes with my aftermarket (jvc) stereo harness what do I do? Are some wires not necessary to be connected?
+Dylan Teller Ya there's several ground wires and you should still make you own ground to chassis with a Nissan. You'll also have a couple blue wires. Do you have the Rockford system? You could just ask a seasoned shop to put the harness together, then you hook up ground to chassis and plug it all in.
+AnthonyJ350 I have a JVC KW-V220BT stereo and my truck has like 4 black wires a few orange a few gray a few blue and a few white I think there's probably more
Anthony, are tractor radios similar, specifically a Daedong agc-5231wf radio (for Kioti ck40)?
If so, wondering if you could help me. On mine the station memory buttons don't remember the stations after the tractor is turned off. What thing(s) could cause this? I can't find a wire color diagram for the radio/tractor.
Thanks.
Sounds like the constant feed for power and switched power are backwards.
@@AnthonyJ350
That makes sense. Wish there was a color diagram somewhere.
Thanks!
Some modern cars have delay switched fuses therefore if you are doing these tests within a certain time of the engine running they will show constant power even though they are switched.
If you have the driver's door open while testing the car will ignore the retained accessory function. Because usually when you open the door the head unit will shut off.
Finally, thanks Anthony another video well explained for the average Joe, so glad i Subd
Thank you! And thanks again for subscribing!
Thank you for your video. Do you have one for a 2004 Honda Accord LX or similar? These Honda's have the HVAC/Climate with the Radio/Head Unit controls. I have a Single Zone, but others have Dual Zone. Thank you.
I relocate the head unit to the lower pocket. Metra Electronics makes mounting kits for single and double din.
What did you do with the blue white antenna wire because there wasnt a blue white wire on the other harness
Just combine them
great video. what do you think might be the problem (and solution) to the whining sound/engine noise through the spreakers when the car is running?
+World Peace You have a ground loop some where in your audio system. Is there an after market amp in the install any where?
Hi Anthony, I have question on head unit and my multi control steering wheel. I just change my steering wheel to a multi control steering wheel but it does not work. What other things do I need and where can I get the items. I am driving a Honda stream rn6 RSZ. My Existing does not come with any multi control button on my wheels.
Hi there, I'm not familiar with those vehicles. Were steering wheel controls an option on the car? The clock spring may be different with cars equipped. Also is it a factory head unit?
This aplies to 350z? I have mounted an screen and the amplifier doesn't work
You'll need to bypass the amplifier in the back of the car in that case
what sort of voltage test unit are you using that has a single probe?
Chris Valery Power Probe 4
AnthonyJ350 thanks!
Still has a ground probe. so 2, not 1
I have a 2006 seebring and the old aftermarket stereo that was in it stopped working right the face plate is bad .so i got a new one that im 100 percent is good i hooked it up and it wont come on. The old one still does but is broke so i know its not the car..do you have any idea whats going on i hooked the colors up to the thing like i always do red to red black to black yellow to yellow..and no power
cris kringle You have to test the wires to make sure you have power and ground.
AnthonyJ350 ok im going and see. Thanks for responding
Why do people need this video? Its really comon knowledge...

My car pioneer connect has one Ilumination wire but, my car has two : Ilumination (+) and Ilumination (-). What should be use?
Test and verify and the instruction manual should say it's a positive input trigger.
Hi. Im setting up my pioneer avh-275bt and im not sure which cable is the one for the handbrake. The stereo only lets you use some features while the parking brake is on.
Try to connect that cable with ground, usually this allows you to use those features all the time
Thanks for the video! How about having a 2nd red/white wire on the harness in to a Saturn Ion 2003? No red/white wire on the after market harness. Do I have to connect this red/white to another wire? Thanks
+Kbiha There should be instructions in the packaging or on it explaining what each colour specifically does.
my head unit is not turning on, i was trying to see why my amp wasnot geting sound to it so i narrarowed it down to the head unit so i pulled the fuse to check it and it was good so i put it back together but now my head unit wont turn on and the fuse is still good. i know i got power to the red wire but not the yellow wire. can u tell me whats wrong or what to check?

If you have a removable frount face. There may be a small tiny hole that you can take a paperclip (straighten it out) and push inside to reset it.
Obviously you have to remove the frount face first. then you will see all black panel.
I imstalled a new deck in my car but the owner before me cut out the original harness and wired in a cheap deck .... I wired in my new deck and matched the wires colour to colour and my head unit doesnt power up ... any ideas
Did you test your wires with a multimeter to verify you have power, accessory and ground?
my old deck worked just fine but when I wired in the new one It turned on ... next day I finished installing it wont power on ...
so im trying to install my half din dvd unit to my go cart. I was thinking black = ground to battery or frame, Red =toggle switch then to splice yellow, Yellow = + on the battery. Will this work??
+Austin Dovel It will if that's what those colours are designated. Just verify in your owner's manual of battery, switch and ground wires.
how do I connect the red wire? do I connect it with the yellow wire to the positive wire on the battery or do I connect it to the ignition key area?
Try watching my install video ruclips.net/video/q7m5kl_WyX0/видео.html
does this video go for any year model type of car??
Jessica Blake This only applies to aftermarket wiring as far as colours go.
Nice one bro
Thank you!
Helpful video. I have a problem. I have a 2004 Saturn Ion and the wires for the car is a completely different set of wires that my aftermarket stereo came with. There are some common colors, but there is colors that one set has that the other doesn't, and vice versa. Any suggestions on which goes where? Please and thank you.
+Axumful Are you using an after market harness?
+AnthonyJ350 Yes I am.
Axumful The colours should just match. Can you take a picture and post it on my facebook page?
Thank you for your nice details video
Glad to hear it helped!
Im not sure how to do this but here goes nothing... I have a 03 Pontiac Grand am & i can't seem to get the wires rite. If u have time id like to no what each wire means & wer it goes. Ty
Did you purchase a module for the vehicle?
Ok I put in a Boss Indash and a box that gives it better ground but, at times the vocal sounds really low and then goes high and gets like on some of the radio station it sounds really low help??
Boss audio processors are pretty basic. I would recommend something like Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer etc. Also make sure you have a good ground connection to the head unit.
Nice tutorial. I hope you can help me though. I did matched all the wires by color but i am not getting any audio on my stereo. Thanks in advance.
Factory amp not turning on?
Hey guys I pull out my old head unit Toyota passo 2005 and wired a market head unit but it doesn't work no power at all..
Im about to put a sony head unit in my toyota matrix that has built in amp its a 400 watt unit and its recommends that you hook up to battery so i run the yellow Positive to battry and then black to ground or can it go on neg terminal on battery and the red ass wire to cig lighter i cant find this out and ive gone off everything youve done up to this point can you help me again anthony?I havent had any problem since watching your videos Thanks Again Buddy.
I would hook it straight to battery with a fuse and nut and bolt ground to the sub frame in the dash
@@AnthonyJ350 Okay thats what I was thinking but wasnt completely sure knew i could ask you thanks again
@@JRTreeService-Firewood You're welcome
@@AnthonyJ350 Instead of sub frame i went to factory ground down by passenger door and to battery worked good and it was first time doing a head unit install thanks again for your help Anthony

2005 Chevy Silverado wiring boss 616UAB radio wiring to factory wires spliced , don't see some of the ones when I look at pictures
The only wire that confuses me is the orange wire. I see three of them. Do I connect all three orange ones together?
No do not connect them all together. Just connect the orange wires that match from the new head unit to the wire harness. Terminate the other connections.
So when we want to use amplifier + subs, can we connect remote amp to antenna stock head unit? And for the right and left channel of the subwoofer, we take them from front or rear channel? Thank you.
For sub use the SUB preout or rear if you don't have SUB. As long as your remote wire is always on then yes.
Excellent video, thank you!!!!
Glad it helped!
Thank you!
I just intalled one of those Chinese stereos that cost $35 in my 2015 Chevrolet Captiva. Stereo works fine and the rearview camera also turned out ok. But two problems happened. First, my Parking sensors in the back dont work anymore (no sound and the dash says Park Assist is off). Also, my turn signals work but there is no clicking sound. I guess there were a couple of connectors on the Original radio that did not get connected to anything. Anyone have any ideas?
You need to install a unit with a proper integration module that is compatible with your vehicle.
Hi please confirm me how to connect the Blue wire ANT OUT from my after market radio on my car there is no conection for this cable.
Should I connected directly with the yellow wire?
My radio tuner is not working at all can get any FM station.
Please help.
Thanks in advanced
I have a 6 channel DVD car Radeon from dual and I just go home.. how do I hook up my 4band eq. And ssl 3way electronic CROSSOVERTO my deck and subs
whats the name of the probe youre using in the video. i'd like to order one.
I use the Power Probe 4 now and I put a lead off a regular multimeter in it.
Are these color codings pretty consistent among make and models?
And if not, what would be the case for a 1997 1500 silverado....I’m just trying to find the speaker wires
Philip Seitz The colour coding is for aftermarket wiring. You'll need to purchase a wiring harness for your vehicle.
Philip Seitz.
Can you please help i have a 350z and i took it to a shop to install an android screen he connected the screen and the sound only comes when you open the radio once i connect the bluetooth there is no sound even the screen itself when i open RUclips on it there is no sound at all only when i open the radio, please help

hey man, my cars wires seem to be all messed up and I wanna run new lines, any advice on how I should?
+tany vega Take it to a reputable shop that has reasonable rates. If you plan on running a lot of new wire I would not suggest it if you're a novice. Could be a fire hazard or you might get poor performance. Just being honest from what I've seen.
Thank you man
i want to know how to add a amplifier to that same setup and how to rewire a 1993 altima head unit
+clarence francis This video might help. ruclips.net/video/EA24kELJdUI/видео.html
so when installing a radio both red and yellow wires are connected together??
+fcolon1976 No, yellow goes to a constant 12+ line while red goes to accessory. You have to consult your owner's manual incase the wire colours vary from standard colour coding.
ok thank you
The harness that came with my stereo doesn't have a blue or solid orange wire.
+darktangent10 yes
Great tips!
Very hard to find and the stupid manufacturers never show end view so you can compare with plugs or the otherside so you can see the wires go into same holes...why would they do that?? So I have done the test light method got all the wires sussed but am left over with 2 grounds, one green with red stripe and fat black
guys plz help I just bought a kenwood dnx6190 and I don't have any wires at all what's that wire called that you attach you wire harness to? I hope someone understands I need this piece to even start installing
You need an after market harness. check bestkits.com or Metraonline.com
I tried to put in a JVC KDX 330 in a 2003 Toyota Solara and I can't even get it to turn on. The people before cut the OEM harness from the wires already in the car. I spliced the wires from the harness given to me with the head unit to the wires already in the car and I just can't figure out what went wrong
+Nick Whitaker I would highly recommend bringing the vehicle to an experienced shop at this point. They can figure out all the connections for you and hook it up properly.
+AnthonyJ350 I did. *sigh* was trying to be completely DIY but oh well. Thanks
i have a audi a3 , and my rear speakers dont work with aftermarket stereo , i have aftermarket speakers too , so can i just wire them into rear speaker wires , will that work?
Arun Lee-Durban They're probably amplified. You'll have to bypass the amp or turn it on.
Can someone please help me out. I just got a boss bv9555 from a family member but there is no wiring harness with it.. I can not find a harness for it anywhere, please help.
if you cant find a harness you can wire the deck directly to the car by following the same colour code in the video for additional info they are video outlining such procedure.
