Great clear explanation. focus was a problem but I know difficult when trying to do everything yourself especially in a confined space. Well Done. Very Informative. Tanks
Thanks!
This really helped on my new Panlelo head unit(as a guide) install.
Thanks man!
Glad it helped :)
Thanks for your tips! I installed Raspberry PI 4 (single board computer) with OpenAuto Pro software recently in my car. Video was really helpful in connection audio signal from the PI to the car amplifier.

Great Vid! Very informative. My dad does this at his own store, and im trying to learn that business. Thnx!

i was being lazy and i ran my sub remote wire to the positive connection on my boat, thanks for the vid! now i re did it!
aedan929 That's good you changed it. Gotta keep your wiring safe and reliable.
After installing my first aftermarket CD player/Indash along with car audio system when I was young (16 yrs old) & actually wired it all up right the first time & now 32 yrs old still going at it. It's all about knowing exactly how to wire the pos + neg (Positive wiring= one solid color) (Negative wiring= Exact same color as positive wiring only with a "black stripe" which means it's a negative wire)
Making sure all pos + neg same color coded wiring is wired together from factory plug & play harness directly to CD or Indash harness is correct,.
When wiring 12v red, accessory (ACC) yellow wiring, them wires are connected together to power
head unit which includes the "Black" ground wiring that is also allowing power to head unit which the ground wiring is wired into harness from what I've dealt with personal, except when dealing with a handful of other person setups. If it has to be grounded inside dash to metal, an example is finding a factory bolt inside dash to attach & hold ground wiring under bolt tightened will work just fine.
The remote wire (subwoofer amp wire) wires to blue neg wire then ran to amp. Illumination orange wiring dims brightness on head unit at dark & vice versa during the day. It's fairly easy to DIY with patience attention & silence lol. I've left things out like RCA's but when running a car audio system the subwoofer amp requires RCA wires to transfer a output & input line from head unit to amplifier.
Thanks for the comment
Finally, thanks Anthony another video well explained for the average Joe, so glad i Subd

These kinda videos is what I need to see. Anybody can test voltage of a wire or check for continuity.... but It takes true skill to be able to know how to test the wire you're looking at. Great job. I'd like to see more videos like this diagnostic wise. and more in depth. Thx
Thanks for your videos Anthony. We appreciate them. Q: How on a german car without an 'acc' key position , can we manually turn on an aftermarket head unit when we're sitting with the car stationary...say in a carpark ? Can we for instance run a signal from a switched 12v source to the head unit, independent of the ign switch ? How do we do that & where do we input the signal to the head unit please ? With thanks from Australia. Rupert
Hey Rupert, there's no accessory position on your car? I thought a lot of German cars as soon as you put the key in the ignition it will allow you to turn on the radio.
What if you turn ignition to the "on" position then turn it back to off but leave the key in the ignition tumbler? Does the head unit stay on?
Came to see how to test certain wires, Nice video awesome tool curious where you got it
I got it off the Snap-on truck but I've seen you can get Power Probe online.

Your welcome!
Nice explanation of color codes, ugh, seen these for years , lol. The only caution I would give to people diving into the unknown, ditch the 9volt battery, and 12V test probe, or bad things may happen when probing the unknown for power or testing for speakers. Multi-meter, not so bad, but still can throw voltages on to sensitive wires "Crap, did the trunk just pop??". Lol. The old school cars, usually no problem, newer models may have digital, delicate signals sent to and from radio units on their harness. In some cases the unit in the dash is not the whole gizmo, may be a controller for a remote trunk/dash mounted amp/IF to complete the system. Definitely best to use a harness/adapter made for the after market application of that vehicle, and follow wire diagrams for tests and installs. Some one or corporation has already ciphered your vehicles wiring no doubt.
Great tips!
Very hard to find and the stupid manufacturers never show end view so you can compare with plugs or the otherside so you can see the wires go into same holes...why would they do that?? So I have done the test light method got all the wires sussed but am left over with 2 grounds, one green with red stripe and fat black
Great vid.
What are wires /if there are any, for volume + / - and ilumination for those touch buttons?
I use modules for that
thanks a lot I never knew this.
Glad it help you understand things more.

Amazing, that ppl see a YT video, believe it, then I see comments like "my stereo is smoking" or my lights wont work now. DAMN MAN, amazing. See comment below, please, for ur own good.
Mike Williams I don't follow because the comment order isn't always consistent. What are you getting at?
Thanks for the video! How about having a 2nd red/white wire on the harness in to a Saturn Ion 2003? No red/white wire on the after market harness. Do I have to connect this red/white to another wire? Thanks
+Kbiha There should be instructions in the packaging or on it explaining what each colour specifically does.
So when we want to use amplifier + subs, can we connect remote amp to antenna stock head unit? And for the right and left channel of the subwoofer, we take them from front or rear channel? Thank you.
For sub use the SUB preout or rear if you don't have SUB. As long as your remote wire is always on then yes.
The harness kit I got says to disconnect the negative terminal from your car battery to avoid short circuits, but I'm not wiring anything while it's connected so that shouldn't be necessary right?
I have a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer with the factory JBL system. I went through four harnesses that didn't fit, so I cut the black 16 pin plug thinking I could wire it but the color to the door speakers and all are different colors. Now I'm radio less. Any way I can hook up my double din pioneer head unit? I can get power to it but how would I wire it up to get sound to come out.
Thank you for your video. Do you have one for a 2004 Honda Accord LX or similar? These Honda's have the HVAC/Climate with the Radio/Head Unit controls. I have a Single Zone, but others have Dual Zone. Thank you.
I relocate the head unit to the lower pocket. Metra Electronics makes mounting kits for single and double din.
Some modern cars have delay switched fuses therefore if you are doing these tests within a certain time of the engine running they will show constant power even though they are switched.
If you have the driver's door open while testing the car will ignore the retained accessory function. Because usually when you open the door the head unit will shut off.
Just installed a Kenwood X998 and I tested my P.Cont "blue/white" wire that I'm using as a remote wire and when I tested it with my multi-meter it was coming in at 22 volts, is this normal?
Nice tutorial. I hope you can help me though. I did matched all the wires by color but i am not getting any audio on my stereo. Thanks in advance.
Factory amp not turning on?

Glad to hear it helped you!
Anyone familiar with a SWC wiring harness that has two orange/white? In my manual it mentions one is illumination output(+) & the other is just illumination. I'm not sure if I need to use both or just one. The only difference in appearance between them is one is much longer than they other.
one is power and one seems to be the information for wtv its connected to
Which one do I put my amplifier with the red wire ?
Hi. Im setting up my pioneer avh-275bt and im not sure which cable is the one for the handbrake. The stereo only lets you use some features while the parking brake is on.
Try to connect that cable with ground, usually this allows you to use those features all the time
I’ve got a blue wire on my harness and an orange wire from the truck. Are these two connectable or should the blue and orange just hang out in the dash?
Terminate individually if you're not using those wires.
my cars whole music system is taken off and there are 2 wires which got shorted while touched each other. I want to know to which terminals the wires should be connected
Question: I have a Blue wire on my wiring harness that's labeled "Power Antenna" but my radio harness only has a Blue/White wire that's described in my owner's manual as "Connect to the system control terminal of the power amp or auto-antenna relay control terminal" should I connect these two wires or not?
Only if you have an Amplifier or Power Antenna. If not then do not use them.

Are these color codings pretty consistent among make and models?
And if not, what would be the case for a 1997 1500 silverado....I’m just trying to find the speaker wires
Philip Seitz The colour coding is for aftermarket wiring. You'll need to purchase a wiring harness for your vehicle.
Philip Seitz.
ive followed this wiring exactly. Except what do i do with the power antenna wire?

don't hook it up if you don't have one
2002 ford focus Do I need to do this with car Bypass a Factory Amplifier
Where do I buy a cheap wiring harness like this?
What did you do with the blue white antenna wire because there wasnt a blue white wire on the other harness
Just combine them
What if you have all your wires connected to the proper color but your radio still won't turn on unless you connect the 12 volt constant and the ignition but then it won't turn off? All fuses are good and all connections are good as well
What kind of vehicle? It might need a module
It would great if someone did a non harness install for 05 Chevy classic.
You need a module for those trucks.
Hello from serbia! Do i need to install the subwoofers blue wire to the radios blue wire?
I there, you will need to use the "amp turn on" wire to activate the amplifier.

Hey I hooked up ground to negative terminal on battery and pos terminal to battery wire and the acc wire to the ignition wire is that all I need to hook up just to see if it turns on I’m so lost with this wiring stuff
Yes that's correct. You'll want to make sure your power wires are on fused circuits.
how do I connect the red wire? do I connect it with the yellow wire to the positive wire on the battery or do I connect it to the ignition key area?
Try watching my install video ruclips.net/video/q7m5kl_WyX0/видео.html

Yup, you can. I would test before hand to see what the wire is doing.
Great video but I got a couple questions below
V V V V V V V
What do I connect a brown wire with the word BACK on it to ?
What do I connet a orange with white line to ?
What is Key one / Key 2 and what do I connect them to ?
Some manufacturers will vary for wiring and features. It's best to consult the owner's installation manual.
@anthonyJ350 hi, I was hoping you could answer my question. Can I have a switch from the accessories at the back of the stereo switching between accessories of the vehicle red and the constant power yellow in order to be able to have the stereo on while the car is turned off???
You can do that. But most vehicles have an "accessory" position on the ignition so it turns on the stereo but the ignition and HVAC system remain off.
I have a question my Twitter on my door of the 2013 Toyota Corolla I wanna replace it with a kicker competition stereo up is a braided I mean to stare a stock bike to speak is upgraded there's 4 wires coming to that tweeter and I looks like to them when is pink one is red 1 is white I believe discoloration and black for colors going to that clip into that little half inch speaker and a little dial looking thing maybe that's a little capacity or something.. Which one would go to the new tweeters
Hi Anthony, I have question on head unit and my multi control steering wheel. I just change my steering wheel to a multi control steering wheel but it does not work. What other things do I need and where can I get the items. I am driving a Honda stream rn6 RSZ. My Existing does not come with any multi control button on my wheels.
Hi there, I'm not familiar with those vehicles. Were steering wheel controls an option on the car? The clock spring may be different with cars equipped. Also is it a factory head unit?
hi quick question. I bought an aftermarket radio for my 2007 Toyota 4runner. the harness I got from metra only has orange/white cable for dimming. my radio wires has a orange/black (which most people say not to use) and a solid orange for illumination. should or could I connect the orange/white with the solid orange?

at your own risk...see comment above.

Yes you can, as long as the harness goes to your vehicle (ie: Chev 99-06 harness in a 99-06 vehicle) all you have to do is... remove harness from the Head Unit you don't want, wire it to the Head Unit you want... the just plug and play... pop the Unit in... pop the dash back on and your done. I recommend taking your Stereo Aux fuse out... to avoid shorts. Good luck! It's not hard or dangerous... these fear mongering people make it seem like it's impossible or dangerous lol "At your own risk!" Lol it's a car stereo people... not rocket science ;)

You'll want to use a relay and power it from a power source that can supply enough amperage.

They are the violet/white reverse(+), the white key- a, the brown key- b, and the black key- ground. I'm using a backup camera and steering wheel control. Violet and white is most likely reverse, the rest are for steering wheel controls. You'll have to consult your owner's manual.

Yup you can totally do something like that. Just make sure to turn on the high pass filter in the head unit or install capacitors/ bass blockers on the rear speakers.
