    I grew up with 4-H and no sports till I was a senior in high school. I think I learned more life skills, teamwork and social skills than I would have from any sport, plus learning how to take care of an animal! My whole family was involved so it was very family centered and encouraged to stay that way by the 4-H structure

    This is so timely! We homeschool also and have never put our kids on sports due to the exact reasons that you mentioned-the schedules are just ridiculous and we didn't want to consume our weekends with sports and take away from the kids' time with their dad. However our 12 year old daughter recently wanted to try basketball, so we found a league open to anyone that she joined. Her first practice was last Saturday and she was completely lost and struggled immensely. It was difficult as a parent to watch her struggle, but also knowing that she is learning some valuable lessons is making us not let her quit (which she wants to do). It's only a 5 week league and I think she will learn some good life lessons. Thanks again for this video!

    My husband had a vasectomy and i would like to ask for prayers. We have had a huge conviction about it and need prayers to hear where the Lord is leading us next. If it’s to reverse it and find a good doctor or wait. i genuinely feel the Lord can still create a baby in my womb with my husband even with a vasectomy but i don’t want to “test” the Lord. We are just needing a ton of prayer.

    We had our 3 daughters in soccer on Saturdays. It was a little crazy and now that I strive to keep the Sabbath holy, I wouldn’t do sports on the Sabbath again. My daughter created neighborhood basketball games for children. Those we’re fun, and we had outdoor potlucks afterwards put on by the parents.😊👫👫👫👫

    I’m new to homeschooling. Rewarding but super tough for me. Homeschooling 3 boys (oldest 9), 1 girl in Christian school. We try to do one sport for each per season in the Fall and Spring. It’s a tough time with shuttling everyone but so needed in our home and makes a difference for them. Enjoyed your thoughts!

    How did your parents deal with sports happening on the Sabbath? My husband and I have talked about maybe allowing our kids to play in leagues when they are older, but they are responsible for any and all Sabbath transportation.

    I‘m kind of in the same spot as you. I have a 6 1/2 year old girl, a 4 1/2 year old girl and a 2 1/2 year old boy and I am just trying to figure out what sports or music lessons or whatever to put my oldest in. My oldest two would love horse back riding, but it’s way too expensive.
    The oldest already knows how to swim. She is starting school in summer (unfortunately there is no homeschooling in Germany) and I want her to have something more than just school.
    They are all doing kids gymnastics, but that’s only kind of a fun activity. The trainer puts up stuff to climb or balance or swing or whatever and the parents are there and do all the stuff with their kids. So we’ll see how that goes, but very interesting what your perspective is.
    LOVE YOUR PODCAST!!!
    Always looking forward to it.
    Blessings upon you and your family.
    Keep it up ❤

    So I’m a little taken aback right now and this is a very random comment. I just received Nourishing Traditions in the mail (have been hearing people rave about it for years and finally bought it because of an interview I saw on Alex Clark’s podcast). I started reading and was really into but I had this eerie feeling that kept tugging at me so I eventually just put it down. The next day I happen to look at the cover (I never looked in detail) and saw a naked woman’s breast out and realized it feels very new age to me I didn’t know why. It was really bothering me last night because I couldn’t put my finger on it but I didn’t want to pick it up again of that feeling I had. This morning I decided to look up the cover design artist and, someone please correct me if I’m wrong but…I found an article that says she’s currently working on art for a deck of tarot cards??? She’s also heavy into Indian religion and I guess Hinduism? I know there’s a lot of very good useful information in this book but I can’t in good conscience as a follower of Jesus support something that is directly supporting occult activity. I’m pretty bummed about this because I couldn’t wait to read this 😭😭😭 In this case, I WILL be throwing the baby out with the bath water lol. ❤

    Im curious how old your kids are? When kids are under 10 its all normal to have these feelings but as they get older, its very good for them to be on a team and if your homeschooling a lot of that locker talk doesnt happen. Sports have taught my kids a lot about perservering and not giving up when things get hard. It also teaches kids to be active and strong. My sons have grown so much this sesson in basketball. Also, having thrm trll us where to be and schdeuling teaches kids respect and not being late. Someday, they will have a boss telling them what to do and they need to kesrn respect and not quitting.

    I do have a question for anyone who is willing to offer insight. We have good Christian family friends who pay their kids money for every touchdown they make in football. They are elementary aged. I was really taken aback to learn this, and it doesn’t sit right with me at all. Any thoughts?

    • @jenAKnND
      @jenAKnND 4 месяца назад +1

      Not much insight but that would bother me as well. I wouldn’t agree with doing that. It’s basically adding pressure to a kid to perform a certain way and putting more expectations on them. That would not be okay with me.

      Maybe there is some truth to this, but learning to practice a martial art can be very practical as far as physical fitness and self defense. Maybe it's similar to yoga where you can benefit from gaining flexibility and stamina, but you shouldn't give it any more credence in your life than that.
