    I'm not seeing enough people talk about this: As the idea of honesty was said to each person, they eventually became more honest to their next match. At the beginning, only a few people were honest, but by the end there were far more willing to be real. Being real with someone else allows them to be real with you. Even if you don't end up dating, you could tell the people genuinely respected honesty and were motivated by it. But just because we know that, doesn't mean it's suddenly easy to be real. I know I'm still a faker to almost everyone irl. The most real I am is on a comment section on YT lol... except when I'm making a joke/meme.

      I think it has a lot to do with our self esteem and our skill level of emotional first aid/hygiene. You risk emotional injury by being vulnerably honest first. Even if you think how you said it felt fake, being the real you will become easier over time. when you notice yourself judging, do just that at first. Notice it. The more you notice the little judgements you make to yourself the easier it will feel to do more than just notice when the times right. Just some thinks.

      I can only truly be free with my thoughts when commenting on RUclips or when not in physical person. Being honest in the comment section is normal, but in society, being honest is stigma. Society tells you to put on a smile, and act like a normal person, when inside you're less than a normal person or broken emotionally and or physically.

    She's right about being brutally honest: Don't waste anyone's time. Be as open and honest about everything in order to eliminate everyone who isn't a good match. There's no point getting emotionally invested in building a relationship on a foundation of lies. Although, it was funny how Voyager was his deal breaker :P

    • @WarpScanner
      @WarpScanner 5 лет назад +69

      I'm torn. On one hand, I agree, you shouldn't waste people's time, and you should be very honest about the big things that are always deal breakers as soon as reasonably possible. On the other hand, there are things that reside in a grey area that might seem like deal breakers in a vacuum, but aren't if they like a bunch of other things about you that make up for it.
      Lead with maybe 1 or 2 deal breakers that almost certainly aren't surpass-able. Like perhaps politics and what you want out of life broadly (Like wanting kids, or marriage, or if you are polyamorous, or if you want to travel the world, or if you want to just have lots of sex, or if you want to stay at home and be introverted except with a partner, etc.).
      Then after that, try and stay positive. Mention things that a person might want that they can get from you in a relationship. Then let the other person figure out if the trade offs are worth it.

    • @cryora
      @cryora 5 лет назад +22

      Don't be brutally honest. Be mostly honest, but avoid including fatal details, and be able to explain the rationale of the different facts about yourself in such a way that any reasonable person in your shoes would be understanding. Then, in the end, just be like "baby don't leave me!"

    • @egabsanders
      @egabsanders 5 лет назад +11

      The problem is people don't want to be brutally honest until they are going for broke, until they have squandered their youth and are exhausted from a lifetime of bad choices, they are aging or have kids ect. Until then, people usually play the field and inflate the value of what they have to offer away without a care in the world until it is too late.

    • @egabsanders
      @egabsanders 5 лет назад +13

      @@WarpScanner it sounds like you are trying to rationalize it into being "ok". You say you agree you shouldn't waste people's time but what do you think withholding information from someone that would allow them to decide for themselves if they are wasting their time with you or if they want to stay and see if your worth the extra effort. If you aren't giving someone the opportunity to decide then you are stealing there time from them, time that they could spend with someone who is a better fit for them. Truth is people are selfish and don't really care about wasting other people's time; they just don't want to waste there own time. It may sound cynical but for the most part is the truth.

    • @WarpScanner
      @WarpScanner 5 лет назад +6

      IDK, I don't really agree with that assessment. But then, I'm polyamorous (and I state that up front, as I mentioned its an obvious deal breaker for some). I think to some degree as a result I largely don't have an issue learning about some minor negatives about a person later.
      I need to know someone's politics up front though. People who are far right can fuck off and I'm at best going to only be fuck buddies with a libertarian or centrist (and only if they are at least decently socially left wing and willing to change their mind on economics in a debate).
      Thing is, being alone would be better than being in a close romantic relationship built upon nothing but desperation. I say that even being poly. I just legit don't believe people actually know what they really want, I hardly know what I want, so I figure its always worth a "try".

    "..and sexually confident" and about a dozen women being crossed off was super sad to me, hits too close to home. This is a very popular criteria that men look for in women... At least it's nice that op acknowledges that the self-conscious ones are quite a few.

    • @234pg786
      @234pg786 5 лет назад +19

      @Gareth Morgan For sure. One problem doesn't cancel out the other. Sexual confidence is something sought out for in both sexes. And there will always be people from both sides having trouble with it. But that doesn't make any of us any less worthy of love.

      What got me was the one woman who was eliminated for not being "intelligent." What the hell was that about? It seemed more like Jeremy's concept and criteria for intelligence. Any way we measure it, even scientifically is so narrow and our understanding of the brain being less clear and more so in the dark. Beyond that little hitch, this is probably in my top 3 favorite People Watching episodes.

      I'm a virgin so I'm definitely insecure about how well I'll be able to please someone, especially with my incredibly average... you know.
      I think that sexually confident can mean different things to different people. Like maybe for me it can mean someone leading me through exactly what they want cuz they know what they want, and therefore their experience makes it work better. But then again some guys like to take lead and find self-consciousness endearing and cute. Maybe it would be fun for 2 virgins to learn together along the way how best to please each other, or 2 hardcore sex masters constantly challenge each other with whatever kinky stuff. Maybe a not sexually confident man gets shamed by a confident woman who says " you're an idiot, you'll never be able to make *me* feel good." Maybe a sexually confident man pushes a girl to do more than she wanted because he's emotionally manipulative, and afterwards she feels used.
      TL;DR Sexual confidence isn't universally attractive and may even be unattractive to some, so don't worry. Someone will like you for you. I hope...
      ...tbh I'm still trying to convince myself of that.

    Fun fact: I tried this recently with a girl. I was brutally honest with her and she had the same personality. We both hated the idea of being upset over opened snapchats or read text messages. We clicked immediately yet our relationship ended a week later. Even thought things seemed to be going really well, one night, while she was drunk, she misinterpreted a thing I said and her “brutal honesty” in that moment was telling me how awful I was rather than hearing me out. I tried everything but things couldn’t fix themselves. I do also agree that a lot of it has to do with chance, timing, and other factors but one thing I would be cautious about is not over stepping your boundaries when you’re being brutally honest. Keep it classy while still being yourself. Best of luck.

    The thing she said about sexual assault is actually quite an interesting idea. I realise half the people in the comments section are immediately turned off by anything perceived to be feminist or SJW, but on its own merit it actually makes a lot of sense, even though I imagine its problematic legally. Proving sexual assault can be unbelievably difficult (two people alone in private - the evidence tends to be a lot of he said she said). Taking into account that a defendant has had multiple people accuse them of assault (especially when those people don't otherwise know each other) seems like a good idea.
    Of course, the problem is that people are innocent until proven guilty - holding untried accusations against people in court violates that principal.
    *DISCLAIMER: Sexual assault and rape can be Male on Female, Female on Male, Male on Male or Female on Female, the severity of the offence should be reflected in the sentencing and genitalia are not relevant.

    • @cjaquilino
      @cjaquilino 7 лет назад +17

      Yeah, her idea has merit. I'd even say the broad idea she's alluding to-make the court system work more like how we update based on evidence/statistics like in science-makes sense. But like you I'm not so sure about the downstream implication for law. And I'm no expert in that field. So I don't have a strong opinion.
      But I will say in the real world no one actually believes in "innocent until proven guilt". We actually have statistics tracking how common or uncommon something is, e.g. Plane usually crash from human error not from fucking bears attacking a pilot in the cockpit.
      And that's just like we've learned from accumulated police investigative experience that heavy suspicion *should* be on the living spouse of a married person who was murdered. Statistics show they're overwhelmingly likely to be the perpetrator.
      Meanwhile lawyers sway jurors with bullshit rhetoric, high pressuring persuasion techniques, judges decision are influence by trivial things like how much they ate, we still consider lie detector tests admissible in court, and there a litany of other pseudoscientific forensic nonsense used to judge cases and do investigations. But even considering her idea (using statistical significants) is an absurdity? We need a more balanced conversation on the judicial system.

      It could too quickly devolve into a legal headache. Imagine people realizing that they can use false accusations to get what they want. If multiple accusations can count as evidence, throwing out a false accusation could arguably be a more powerful social and political tool than petitions. In fact who needs petitions if you can just throw together a Facebook group to all agree to falsely accuse someone? Internet looses their shit at some content creator, pundit, journalist, activist? Well, let's just all accuse them of sexual harassment or assault so we can put them behind bars just because we don't like them. It's a great idea in principle, if there was a way to be able to verify beyond all doubt that accusations and testimonies are 100% true. But that's just not something you can ensure. Even polygraphs can be cheated.

    • @FatherTime89
      @FatherTime89 7 лет назад +19

      Multiple accusations is not evidence of anything. Certainly not evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. Lots of people have said they've been abducted by aliens, or that they've seen Bigfoot or Nessie.
      And if you think this system couldn't be abused go look at what happened in Salem, Massachusetts.

    I think the blonde character is a perfect portrayal of a pseudo-intellectual. Someone who knows just enough to see things like the faults within society, but not smart enough to understand why poorly timed and improperly aimed criticism of it is effectively useless for everyone involved.
    None of the characters left the conversation being wiser about the world, they just brushed her off as a pretentious asshole who was full of herself -- much like the people in these comments. Anyone who is truly smart should both know how to get a point across without alienating a bunch of people in the process, and understand why it really is important to respect others even when you don't agree with them (both for them, and yourself).
    It's the same way with her grammar. While it's true an adept grasp of grammar is to be admired, more so is the ability of using that power as it is needed -- not just because you can. Long specific words are just that: tools to be used at specific times, when something more general and easily understood won't fully convey what you want to say. Otherwise, you're just wasting time and energy, and causing a bunch of unnecessary confusion in the process.
    That said, I'm interested to see where the series goes. After all, it's not like you have to agree with a character to find their story interesting :D

    • @dkursada
      @dkursada 5 лет назад +87

      There are lots of comments which simply disses her for being full of herself but fail to state what's actually wrong. This is the actual explanation of what is her type, kudos to you. I admit I've had trouble putting my finger on it myself.
      Nonetheless, I too wonder what's going to happen on the series. It's the first episode and there are already some great arguments in here.

    • @furyberserk
      @furyberserk 5 лет назад +46

      I disagree. A truly smart person wouldn't care regardless of how they put out the information, but how the other responds to it. Nearly all arguments on the unknown are shots in the dark and she having spent enough time doing the routine of speed dating likely means regular dating has failed and regular approaches have stopped mattering to her to the point that any real connection will take place from those willing to tolerate her. Such as saying the worst thing you have done and living with that person knowing truly they aren't worse than that or arranged marriages where even though there is no inherent love or likely interest, their commitment to each other is stronger than any love based situation(besides financial relationships of course).
      Not all strategies work and its when the common doesn't that you have to be more unique or extreme.
      But not knowing her story at all, I'm assuming she gave a few honest tries with real effort until all she has now is the unapologetic truth.
      Or maybe talking to strangers is how she copes. Idk. I'm not that smart.

    Love or hate this video, they bring up some very good points. I feel like we are socialized to politely date, being the most generically attractive to the maximum number of people. That means you have a lot of muck to wade through before you even have a clue who you're dating. Word salad may not be your thing; you might not want to reveal your deepest, most intimate thoughts on a first date. But, at least be your authentic self and not the character you think your date will like. Maybe you don't quite know how you feel about some parts of your life- if it comes up, say that.
    You will absolutely be less popular on the dating circuit, but you will also waste less time with people you have nothing in common with.

Those are things most think should be talked about right away but don't because they aren't confident enough or feel it's impolite. When you think about it, talking about things like family or even sharing personal goals on a first date before stating your core values and views gives the illusion of closeness that may lead ppl to settle for someone they've been politely dating for a while who they aren't really compatible with at the core

    • @Release_the_Bees

      I think the 100 mph talking speed was a necessary choice for the purposes of this video. There was a lot of information to get out in a limited period of time. Imagine how long this video would have been if they spoke more slowly. It's already over 10 minutes long as is. Aside from that, the two motor mouths are the main characters and, in this context, require the most dialogue. It makes sense that the people we're less focused on don't get to talk on screen as often. This doesn't mean they aren't getting to talk. It just means we see less of it.

(ie that if you asked someone to describe an attractive person the person they describe is more than likely cis)
      Also, some of the stuff they are saying is bizarre (like the who should pay) or can cause quite a bit of disagreement among even liberal like-minded millennials. They one guy at even the possibility of her being a feminist instantly did the "You're one of those people" thing.

      I really liked the video, but geez that's a depressing ending. It's what always gets me about the idea that there exists The One for you ... and if mine lives in Mumbai, or Beijing, or Ulaanbaatar, what are my chances of ever meeting her?

      Mark Chapman If there really is a "One" out there, the chances of you guys being in the same room are hilariously slim. The chances of you guys noticing each other is even slimmer. The chances of you guys talking to each other are even slimmer than that.

      I read a comment like that, but it was more about it being said so fast you need captions, meaning you can't appreciate the cleverness. They WANT to appreciate the cleverness. Don't know if the rest of the comments are like that but... you might actually be highlighting your own assumptions here. Probably a bit of both, that's how life tends to work.

      I don't think people were upset because she was a stripper. I think some people just dont like being talked to so condescendingly. While it might not appear that way to you, that is how some people perceive it. And that's okay. We can all see the same thing different ways. I just think there's a happy middle ground to portray these ideas. Regardless of how I perceived the message, I still felt like the ideas that came across are worthwhile and deserve consideration :)

      Right? I'm all for finding justice for those (actually) wronged, but an accusation, or multiple ones are not evidence for a reason. There's no "He did it, so go straight to jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $200."

    • @kamenwaticlients
      @kamenwaticlients 7 лет назад +28

      Exactly. That statement that the character made is a great conversation starter but a very dangerous world view. Benefit of the doubt is very important that's why investigations matter. Letting accusation become evidence sets a terrible presidence. Though sadly that makes things incredibly difficult for actually victims.

    • @AnthonySforza
      @AnthonySforza 7 лет назад +7

      kamenwaticlients
      However, it also makes things difficult for the wrongly accused, as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying every guy accused is innocent, though our legal system is as such, to do what it can to put the guilty ones in prison and keep the innocent ones out. Although, despite that it isn't perfect, it's the only one we have... and until there's some way to determine 100% guilt without evidence, this is as good as it's going to get. That being said, I think her world view in that regard is the symptom of a bigger problem... as any time I've heard someone say something of the nature (This is the first of that specific thing) it's because they believe this whole "Rape Culture" BS. Which in turn, probably leads to other headache inducing beliefs the more you get to know her. I can't begin to describe how frustrating it is to meet someone that's intelligent, but believes such nonsensically stupid things.

      Not really, it's a personality. I interact with honestly and mostly out of choice, filter a lot of bullshit that way and meet the real gems amidst the rubble that much easier. I'm very, very much like the two protags, and rarely are people much like myself (I mean in a purely analytical sense)- which lends to the ending being painfully accurate. I also get the exact same reactions from others- even my reply is similar. I'm INTP (while I'm aware that the 16 personality system isn't entirely accurate- all psychology has its holes), it gives you an idea of the limited amount of people that may think and respond similarly to these characters (many NT type's) and why you might not have come across those that interact socially or conversationally like this. Granted, you'd have to do the research on what I'm talking about, extra granted, the general populous won't and most likely neither will you. But I can agree to a degree and say it isn't exactly personable to a wide audience, but what was said in the video was/is important- but there most certainly are those who interact with the world in the way these animated characters do.

    • @wbsvideos3741
      @wbsvideos3741 6 лет назад +12

      I kind of get the impression you are imposing the personalities of those characters or even the INTP on yourself a bit too much and in ends up sounding a bit pretended to be honest. Although i guess i shouldn't build an opinion on you just based on what you wrote. I don't know, it just reads a bit strange? but then i suppose it kind of proves the point your trying to make like this might not appeal to me but someone else might be able to relate to what you wrote better and that is fine. Also I guess i thought it would be a shame if no one responded to what you said.

Joan, the stripper named candy with the high IQ, and Jeremy, the transgender server. The connections between the two episodes of this show show is pretty interesting. If you think about the things Jeremy says and take into account the fact that he's trans, his whole rant about feeling outside of society takes on new meaning. It's cool that there's more information about these two than meets the eye. I wonder if the rest of the episodes might have the "main characters" be from that original episode.

She seems like the kind of person I would have to triple check everything I say to her to avoid debating every topic or just downright pissing her off. The moral is...to find someone who's more or less (in this situation) your gender-swapped clone? I understand that honesty is key, but are we really expected to continually reject people until we find someone oh-so-similar? I think that's what's a huge problem with modern dating: we aren't willing to compromise as much as before. We want someone so compatible that they'll fit neatly within our lives without creating and sort of huge inconvenience for the lives we'd planned for ourselves.

    • @murnshaw
      @murnshaw 7 лет назад +8

      aboutashow your comment is great, and to add to it, everyone inevitably changes as time goes on. when we are with a partner we can either actively change to be more compatible with them or slowly become less compatible until the relationship falls apart. Whether a relationship lasts depends on how much work you put into it, not how lucky you can be finding some one who will put up with all of your bs.

    • @stuff8209
      @stuff8209 7 лет назад +29

      I don't think it is about finding a clone but about finding someone compatible or who has the potential to be compatible with you, that is not the same thing. I am neurotic but that does not mean I need to be with someone who is also neurotic, it could mean that I would like to be with someone who does not mind that, or can handle it. Someone could have a different interest to you but if you are not freaked out by it then that is already a good amount of narrowing down. If you looked at the man and the woman who showed compatibility in this video, they shared similar interests, yes, but also had clear differences in terms of their experiences. What was important was that their values in dating were similar which I think is the basis of a good initial relationship. I think what you're saying may not be such an issue with modern dating but more about expectations in general. The goal among many people is to be financially and generally independent. The world expects us to be able to look after ourselves so yeah, to throw everything under the bus (like quitting a job or moving somewhere) for a relationship is a giant risk and not wanting to do so is an understandable choice. And to extrapolate further, if your relationship becomes the only or most fulfilling or sustaining aspect of your life, that is a lot of pressure and expectation to place on the other person. I can understand where you are coming from with the issue of wanting someone who can fit perfectly into your life but I am not sure fitting your life around someone is a better alternative. Maybe the issue with modern dating is that it is hard to find the right balance.

    • @PrettyPurpleness
      @PrettyPurpleness 7 лет назад +3

      aboutashow I understand that the implications of this is that you have to find the one person who thinks exactly like you but I don't think that was the intention of the writers. I think this more about how speed dating creates this environment where instead of meeting people and seeing if you are compatible or if there is in chance of wanting to get to know someone you meet, everyone tries to market themselves instead of being yourself. I don't think they are saying to find your clone because while similar the 2 people weren't exactly the same. She even says that some of the people she could eliminate as matches are people who can't stand someone having a different opinion. Personally I don't think a relationship where two people are exactly the same can work or would last but a relationship where you can't agree with someone at all isn't healthy either especially if it means your fighting all the time. The truth is they might not even like each other because they are so similar but the sad part is that they don't even get the chance to see. Sometimes it's not to meet someone who think like you even if you don't necessarily get along. Compromise is important but you have to be able to agree on something. You also can't expect someone else to want to change their lives completely for you and you shouldn't change completely for them. People change over time but you shouldn't base a relationship on the thought that you can change someone else. That is also a big a problem with relationships. People stay in bad relationships thinking that the other person is going to change but why are you with someone if you don't even like who they are? Why are you with someone if that don't like you? Love can be complicated but it shouldn't be a toxic battle field.

    This was really well written and the animation is quirky. I like the fact that though the honesty and forthcoming-ness of just a few, some of the others decided to just fuck-it and try it for themselves! We can all do with that advice at times I think! Awesome job on this Cracked :)

    it was not hard for me to understand everything they said even tho I'm not from an English speaking country but the horror of what was said in this video on an emotional level makes me want to cry at how shallow I've made my own life by choosing to make myself more attractive to a larger percentage of women and not just saying what is really on my mind because of the social awkwardness it implies and probably shortening the list of people who are compatible with me by 99% ( and not only on from a romantic perspective) .... now I'm really just stuck between my self-doubt and my unscratchable itch to just say who I really am and who does not like the kind of person I am can just go suck it for all i care ....... that felt really good to write ....don't really know why.... it just felt good...

    i'm not a fan of the word salad philosopher. you could say half the things she said and not sound nearly as pretentious. also no, restaurant paying is a horrendous idea. how many fake ass "first time dates" do you think would be showing up for the free meal?

    • @quincypalmore3619
      @quincypalmore3619 6 лет назад +38

      EpicMickey: All a restaurant has to do to circumvent people "Faking" first dates would be to have couples fill out an online reservation form that searches the establishments past customers and only approves pairs that haven't dined together before. And after the couple leaves they would be denied if they tried to go for a second free date. And that's something that can be achieved with 50$ quarry programs, so don't say that it would be expensive.

      EpicMickey Eh, it's pretty impossible to try and be completely honest without sounding pretentious. It's all about assumption of intent. She's trying to put all the facts on the table, not really to be deep, but if you interpret the latter rather than the former it comes off as trying too hard.

      actually i know how that could be fixed. just ask for their IDs and keep a database. yeah you might be able to fake "first dates" at a few places but you could only do it ONCE. and as she said, they make most money off of alcohol that she WAS NOT suggesting be free. eat free, not drink free.

      M. Ivy Luna yeah, but they could just get free "first" dates at various restaurants around town

      @m.ivyluna4632 6 лет назад +5

      CoalDiamond- TheMagicRogue yeah, but again its a finite number of places.
      Also most places offer like free birthday deserts or something similar, yet its not something most people even think to abuse.
      If restaurants share a database with each other this could be avoided. If not couple has to drive pretty far to get free food, most people wont out of sheer laziness.

    Well in the 8 or 10 or something years I’ve had this RUclips account I’ll write a second comment. I usually keep to being a ghost online and never really put anything like my opinions or whatever out, but I have to thank the creators of People Watching and Cracked as a whole.
    Every few years I come back and binge random content from Cracked. It’s the only place that I can consistently come back to and feel something real or different maybe. I’m not the best with words, but I’m sure you’ll get the point of what I’m trying to say. The lines and monologues of the characters in People Watching made me genuinely smile and laugh because it felt so uniquely relatable and melancholic. I can’t even recall the last time I felt that way when watching something on the internet. Look I know that the things they say are actually pretty broad and the message really isn’t that new, but to me at least maybe it’s the way they talk about it or the way they deal with it that makes it so “real”. I love that in my opinion at least the characters don’t feel forced. They have real drives and aren’t just political cut outs for either side with one opinion. They feel like genuine people that I’ve met and learned from.
    Just to preface after the face in case anyone actually reads this I’m only 22. Yeah... so I guess that puts my words into perspective right? Not very old and I know lack the life experience to say things like “uniquely relatable” or melancholic and have it actually mean something. I like to believe that I’ve experienced something though. I force my self into situations I’m not comfortable with and try to meet people with differing opinions from my self while not berating them or being aggressive on anything, but also not bending in the wind to their ideals. I’ve surrounded myself with different kinds of people from different countries and backgrounds and our friendships have lasted years.
    So... I guess I got a little off topic, but like I said I think you get the point. Well if this is actually seen I guess. Might as well be throwing a paper ball into the trash can. Anyways I just wanted to say that I truly appreciate the productions and cast of Cracked and it’s projects like People Watching. I love your stuff and hope to see more. It opened up some healthy introspection for myself and is genuine internet gold.
    Thank you for your time.

    Being real, I felt sorry for the first woman at 00:15 since she overshared about her depression and her feeling not good enough and that guy instantly dropped her and ditched her on a speed date.
