    I really wish someone would either do a digital rendering of what it originally looked like or doing a painting to show what it originally looked like with the eyebrows and background .

    I long for an in-depth documentary on this restoration - it would make compelling viewing: from the initial historical research to final layer of new varnish. Hopefully as more famous paintings come up for conservation, all art museums will learn that they have a willing and eager audience....!

    I used software to really lighten Girl with Pearl Earring to see if there was anything that we can't see in the background because the background is so dark. Turns out, you can see the back of the chair she is sitting on, which I found to be very interstate.

    It's unfortunate, but it appears the current "restored" version looks very flat.

      The painting is abraded from prior cleaning and restorations. Removing the varnish layer exposes that. Even a new varnish layer won't correct that damage. The yellow varnish hid that somewhat and that may have a lot to do with why it looks "flat" now.
