‘Making a Murderer:’ Inside Brendan Dassey’s Confession

  • If you think only guilty people confess to crimes, think again. Innocent people are often convicted after providing police with a false confession -- and many of them are underage. Terrill Swift was 17 when he claims Chicago police officers lied to him during an interrogation, accusing him and three other teens of raping and murdering a woman. Swift spent more than a decade in prison for a crime he did not commit before he was exonerated in 2012 based on DNA evidence. Brendan Dassey, featured in the Netflix series “Making a Murderer,” was in high school when he was interrogated - and remains in prison today for his alleged role in the murder of Tereasa Halbach. His attorney, Laura Nirider, claims Dassey’s confession was coerced and unjust. Plus, Dave Thompson, an expert in interrogation training and a certified forensic interviewer, tells parents what they need to know to prevent this from happening to their children. (21322)

This is a miraculous and amazing case where two ppl were convicted for the same murder, by the same prosecutor. Apparently, one murderer did it on a bed in the trailer with a knife, leaving no blood, while the other murderer did it in the garage with a gun, also leaving no blood. Can someone make it make sense?

Hypothesis. Teresa Halback met SA and after doing her job leaved the Avery’s domain. But some guys know when she should leave and intercept her kidnap her lead her in a desert remote location to rape her torture her take photos of her with her own camera and then kill her with a .22 carabine (2 shots in the head). Then they cut its corpse into pieces. They had already brought a barrel and combustible enough to cremate the body parts one by one. Some of the guys thought of the fresh beer and big sandwiches. Then once done, they go home . One of them put an annouce to sell the photos in the dark net. Another day ,they poured a part of the bone fragments in à bag and bring them to the fire pit of SA.

Dassey could conceivably be released because of his mental issues, (as long as his uncle stays locked up, so as to not ruin his life all over again). He's likely not dangerous on his own. Nonetheless, he did what he said he did. His interrogation had no intimidation, no suggestions, no threats, no leading questions. The worst thing the cops said was; "We already know everything". Nothing more. Everything else was " tell us what happened". He came up with all the details by himself. Are you saying he had a detailed, colorful, consistent imagination? Watching the 7th circuit and how there was 3 who dissent and 4 who didn’t, the man who opposed dissent is extremely insensitive to those with a mental disability or those with limitations. He clearly hasn’t done research on how humans with those limitations can feel cornered and extreme discomfort given the tactics the police portrayed and so recklessly unleashed unto Brendan. He clearly is looking at it from his stand point, an unlimited human, and how HE wouldn’t do the same as Brendan did in that confession interview. You can tell he wasn’t for Brendan from the get go. You cannot process Brendan’s mind through your lens. And this seemingly adult 7th circuit member failed to attempt perspective through a lens Brendan possessed since birth.

On a previous video I watched with Dr, Phil he asked the investigator why wasn't there any blood found at the crime scene. The investigator said in a unconvincing tone " he must have cleaned it all up" . Really. that place was a pig stye and Avery is no clean freak, so you mean to tell me that Avery was good enough to clean the bedroom and garage so the investigators couldn't find one bit of her blood using Luminol, BS. They found blood using Luminol in the wood floors where Billy the Kid shot and killed the one deputies that was guarding him back in 1881. The prosecutor stated in their theory that she was stabbed while shackled to the bed, there were no marks on his bed frame of any kind. That's just 2 issues of reasonable doubt, therefore they shouldn't have been found guilty. The Sheriff's office investigating the case was being sued by Avery, so it would be unethical for them to be invloved and should not have been anywhere near this case. Evidence that should be there was not(blood) then it couldn't have happened the way the prosecution says it did, therefore reasonable doubt. I personally believe Avery didn't do it based on some of the things I mentioned, it's very clear they wanted to pin this on him. Even when they allowed civillians to search the Avery salvage yard and a relative made a bee line straight to it and miraculously found her vehicle. These are all facts that were stated in court. I am pro law enforcement so don't get me wrong if he killed her he should be executed in my book but things don't add up. Seeing how easy the Sheriffs dept. discarded proper procedure and lied all over this case it's pretty scary that it could happen to any of us. All of the officers involved should be held accountable from the Sheriff on down, unbelievable amount of corruption.

After watching the video tapes and the police techniques of the interrogation from Brandon, a 16-year old pensioners boy I must admit it was more than disturbing and disgusting especially in a country where the death penalty still exists! Even a person with IQ 100 or even more was able to break and admit his guilt 😔 when actually he hasn't done anything ! To my humble opinion the Authorities involved in condemning Brendon and Steven Avery after so many facts found especially by Kathleen Zellner , are a disgrace especially by not admitting their wrong doing for so many years! The unfortunate story isn't making America great again !..

Look the case against Steven I can’t say what makes sense it don’t look good either side of the coin the investigation or the way she was found.
However Brandon’s conviction makes me sick a jury who couldn’t look at this young man and see he couldn’t even speak for himself he is easily swayed to say what anyone wants to say.
I mean even when his own lawyer was saying he should take the deal he couldn’t even speak clearly to the judge.
That kids life was taken away due to police wanting to convict another man so badly they didn’t care what they done to him.
Forget the appeals they should be rights that the Supreme Court’s can over throw this and throw out his charge it’s ridiculous!
It makes me so mad when I see this again and it’s been this long and these people get forgotten about we need to get this public again and push it.

I'm not 100% certain on Steven Avery, there was enough doubt in my mind that I wouldn't have convicted him (either due to the malice or incompetence of the prosecution) even if he might be guilty.
Brendan, on the other hand, is such a gross miscarriage of justice that I can hardly stomach it. He is CLEARLY on the spectrum, which is something that isn't talked about. The boy is autistic with an IQ likely between 60-70. He was interrogated as a minor without a lawyer and FED what he was "supposed" to say. If you think no normal person would ever say those things, even if pushed, then first of all you clearly don't know how psychology works, as it's happened thousands of times. But also, again, Brendan isn't normal. He's like a 7-8 year old. He doesn't understand the seriousness of what's being discussed. He's stressed about missing his next class (because those on the spectrum don't like breaking the rules, it makes them feel immense shame). This is just ridiculous. But the problem is the only reason they were able to pin the murder on Avery is through the coercion of Brendan, and since this seems to be personal with the prosecution, they can't very well reopen the case on Brendan without likely letting Avery go, or at least getting a new trial.

    • @Brunobeaudy

The cops who were being sued by Avery knew Bobby was the one but were personally liable for Steven's lawsuit which would have been settled within months after this murder occurred. Don't you find it a little convenient that a relative, who surely would have gained from the suit (probably closer to $1M settlement) justsohappened to commit a crime unlike any in his past in this timeframe. Then, the cops, in pursuit of the real killer, would have said, "hey, guys, wait a second. If we just work together here and everyone keep quiet. We can make it seem like this guy did it instead of the actual killer? What luck we had that his relative committed the crime! And about that murderer who we are covering up for? Oh well. Now Ryan Hillegas was her ex boyfriend. He had found out she was sleeping with her roommate Scott. Then Ryan somehow knew her passwords. He had her day planner. He also started staying in her apartment with Scott the day after she went missing. Scott didn't report her missing for a few days. Now why would he wait three days? He knew she would come home every night. So why the 72 hour wait to report her missing?
