I saw Janna’s demo of her BlocLoc ruler at a quilt show. After trimming the first two sides, she left the ruler in place and turned it with the fabric underneath. Slick and quick. Turn in the direction the seam is pressed so the channel will catch it and push it around. The numbers count up (1, 2, 3 …) from each end of the channel so you can slide it down to the measurement you need. Janna (RIP) was left-handed so this works for both, righties and lefties.
I’d love to see the triangle papers, I’ve heard a lot about them. It’s nice to know my regular rulers do just fine, there’s always a new tool that brings keeping up with the Jones to quilting!😅
Thank you. I like using the Bloc Loc to trim when making oversize HST. I CG 45/90* to cut the hst out and sew directly for exact size. When I can cut and sew 1/4” correctly I don’t need to trim at all. I’m using this for week 2 of FWFS Simply Summer.
The Clearly Perfect Slotted trimmers is the one that FINALLY made my brain click on how to make the HST. Regular rulers just couldn't work on my brain for some reason. One thing I do when using the CPST is if it doesn't matter to the design of the HST, I line the ruler up on one side and just make one cut vs two...because I am OOOOOBER lazy. 😜😜I also don't do the dog ear piece with my trimmer because it makes me cringe when my blade hits the sides. Just can't help it from hitting since the slots are so small. I just trim those with scissors. I love them so much I have them in all available sizes. I also have the triangle paper but I don't think to grab them until after I have already sewn them up.
I liked how quick it was when you did the HST by sewing around the sides and then cutting on the diagonal. My only concern is that you are then dealing with a lot of bias edges. Has this ever been a problem for you?
I appreciate that you still use a regular ruler to trim lord knows even those are expensive but the “special ones are even more ridiculous in price n you still only use them for 1 thing at least a regular ruler can be used multiple ways ty Steph for always being kind and considerate hugs n happy Fourth of July sweet friend
@@StephaniesStitches ty @stephaniesStitches I appreciate your compliment and encouragement not too shabby for a beginner lol I’m proud of myself none of them I had patterns for I figured it out myself n have learned a much from you and a few others here on RUclips ty for all you do
The Slotted Trimmers are WAY less expensive than the block-locs. One can trim 11 sizes for about $35 with the Slotted Trimmers, but to get 11 sizes with the block-loc it would cost over $100.
Links to find the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer and the Bloc-Loc rulers can be found in the description box below the video. Thanks for watching!

Please, which is your favorite ruler.❤
A regular old ruler! If I had to pick a specialty one though, the clearly perfect slotted trimer.
Can you do one and show how to trim quarter triangle?
I would be happy to. I can add that to my next UFO/WIP video.
@StephaniesStitches thank you. I've tried making the front door quilt you did a couple of weeks ago and I keep losing the points.
The Slotted Trimmers also trim these to size 🙂
Still need mor work on it!

I best press all my fabric before I cut, so no, it hasn't been a problem for me. But if you don't, I could see where that would be a concern.

Thank you Karen! Loved seeing pictures of your beautiful quilts on FB!
