Thank you for your videos and website. So much helpful information to help me along my Hoya journey. I just received a Multiflora and am hopeful for blooms. Thanks again for being generous with your time!
I was lucky enough to find a large pot of this at a local garden center. It didn't like living indoors with me though, buds and leaves kept falling off. I put it outside in a fit of disgust, and now it's fabulous! So many flowers and new leaves. Glad I didn't give up on it totally
This guy has been tricky for me! It was doing very well and then it the leaves yellowed rapidly. I decided to move it to Hydroton and wait to see how it does! Judging from yours, I made the right move! Thanks Doug!
Your welcome Lynda! I guess this plant is a little trickier than I thought judging from people's comments. The only problem I have ever had with it is keeping the spider mites at bay, because they really love it. I think that the hydroton should work well for you!
Hello, Hoya. The flowers are so pretty. The shape is unique. In Korea. It's not easy to find. I'm having a hard time importing these days because of Corona 19. I can't wait to find it and raise it.🌸😘
I just bought a hoya like that from almost Eden Nursery in Louisiana. Apparently it must have been in bloom when it was shipped but the blooms fell off. I'm excited to have it can't wait till it blooms. So excited for you to have one you grew from seed
It should flower again soon as this is one of the Hoyas that literally never stops flowering. I have to cut most of the flowers off as it just makes to much of a mess with dripping nectar.

Hello Doug! Its Christine from CT. I have had success in the seeds that I've grown of the multiflora. I have a dozen plants with no homes. I'm wondering if we could discuss them off line
Yes I do. Start simply with readily available easy to grow plants and only after doing well with these would I venture into slightly harder Hoyas. I would not spend huge amounts of money on some of these very temperamental plants until I had built up the confidence and experience to do well with them. Have fun with the hobby and understand that there will always be setbacks, but work through them and learn from your mistakes.
Hi. It's me again. Just a note about the multiflora I asked you about. I found a large ceramic self-water pot for it. Using that to water seems to be fine. No new growth yet, BUT it looks like one of the peduncle is putting forth new buds. There are tiny light green beads at the end of it's brown knuckle looking tip. Is that possible when it was just last month that I got it in the mail with flowers buds? Remember that they all fell of a day or two after I got it? So I thank you for your encouragement on my multifloral. I have a question about two hoya kentiana that I have just received and planted. I ordered one and when it arrived, was smitten so much I ordered another. One seems to be doing ok. But the others' lower leaves (one at a time) get soft, turn yellow and then separate from the stem. You have so generous with your advice before, I am hoping you might have an idea as to what I did wrong and what I could do before I loose it entirely. I love this plant. I think even more than that splash. I like its' chocolate leave edges. Any ideas? 🙂
When Hoya multiflora is happy, it will flower so much that it becomes annoying so yes it is possible that it is already budding up! I suspect that there is probably a little root rot going on with your new kentiana. It may have even come that way and not be any fault of yours. I would pull it out of the pot and examine the roots if they are white and healthy looking you are good, if they are brown, or if the outer layer comes off when you scape it with you fingernail they have rot. I would then take cuttings and re-root them.
I had one and it died 😢 My sisters multi floral bloomed 3 or 4 times for her. I like all the more succulent leaf varieties. I do better with them. I do have a Bella cutting from my sister that bloomed 3 times for me ❤️
I'm happy that your bella is doing so well for you! Some people can't grow that one at all so good job. It is all about growing the Hoyas that do best for you, and the heck with the rest!
I just received one in the mail. Am excited. It had four peduncles in bud. Just as they were mid flush, (?) the flowers on first one are dropping. Is that from the stress of its' mailing? Will they recover and settle into their new home and bloom next year? I don't have all that hydro stuff.....if I find a self watering pot big enough will that do? Thanks for your time.....🙂
Yes, a self watering pot with soil should do just fine as that is how I grew it for years! This is a plant that once it is happy, it will never stop flowering! Don't worry about a few fallen buds, it will pick up quickly.
Doug Chamberlain Oh good! Freaked when I came into the room the forth day and there was a pile of buds on the counter! Thanks for the advice! Will try to find a self watering pot big enough for it. I like the ceramic ones, but it may not be easy to find one 4-6 inches. But I am determined. Wish me luck.🙂
saludos Dough, hermosa tu multiflora, es un secreto que utilizar de fertilizante entendi bien? la tenias en spagnum, y de ahi cambio a semihidro con leca de sustrato... quitaste o dejaste el musgo ??
Hi Valerie, I have 200 people on that emailing list now, and quite frankly it has kind of gotten out of hand since I am not a nursery just a home hobbyist. I can add you, but the earliest I will be selling anymore cuttings is next spring, and I've got to do something different as it is no longer manageable in its current form.
Could h. papaschonii need similar water conditions? It looks really similar to multiflora. bought a little plant in spring this year and it's doing nothing but existing, I've seen leaf buds for several weeks but they're not changing. It's not looking like it's growing but also not getting worse as far as I can tell.
H. papaschonii grows exceptionally well in semi-hydro and in sphagnum. I likes to be damp all the time and never wants to dry out. It does miserably in soil based mixes.
This is a very beautiful hoya. Can you please help me? I have a hoya cumingiana but it's leaves turn yellow and fall off both old and new. What should I do?
Sounds like a root problem. I would take it out of its pot, and if there is any sign of root rot, take cuttings and restart it. Hoya cumingiana likes strong light and does not want to be dry for too long. Good luck with your plant Eveline!
I don't keep elliptica any longer, but it needs very high humidity above 70%, warm day and night, and moderate light to do really well. It also does not like having its leaves sprayed with water. Probably the reasons that I no longer keep it!
They come from all over; eBay, trades with other people, AH Hoyas in Thailand, It is harder to get into the hobby now, because of the cost of some of these plants. It used to be so much cheaper!
From what you describe, it could be too late. If it were me, I would take the best cutting that I could, and try rooting it in water in a very warm humid environment. If it develops water roots I would try growing it in leca using the passive, or semi-hydro way of growing as that is how mine does best. Never let this one dry out. Good luck!

This seems to happen to many people. I would have to guess that possibly it got under watered. Hoya multiflora needs to never dry out. It grows well in passive hydro and also will do well for a time in sphagnum. I also used to successfully grow it in potting mix. Keep at it and you should be rewarded with flowers soon.
I'm sure you've been asked a million times, but I went to your website hoping to find where you sell cuttings of your plants. Is selling just something you're not interested in? I'd love to buy some. Thanks.
I think I've only been asked this about a thousand times, so not quite a million yet! Unfortunately I just can't supply this Hoya craze enveloping the country right now. I took 500 cuttings from my plants in the spring and they sold out in like 5 minutes. I sell rooted cuttings under erbtarzan24 on eBay right now, but I'm done selling unrooted cuttings for the year. I really wish that I could help everyone out, but it is just not possible.
Hello Doug my multiflora keeps dropping it flower buds before they develop I don't think it's a watering issue but not certain it becoming quite frustrating could you please give me some advice? Thanks
I would have to say that you are right that it probably is a watering issue. This plant never wants to go dry, but does not want to be sopping wet either. Does it need to be repotted. This is a plant that does not want to be under potted either. I would pull it out of its pot and check the roots. Maybe it just needs a re-potting
You're not the only one that seems to be having that problem Brenda. The only thing I can think of is inconsistent watering? This one never wants to go dry at all.
Almost no one does that, but I have done it a few times with unsatisfactory results. It seems that one Hoya always takes over to the weaker one's detriment.

I would have to say that you are right that it probably is a watering issue. This plant never wants to go dry, but does not want to be sopping wet either. Does it need to be repotted. This is a plant that does not want to be under potted either. I would pull it out of its pot and check the roots. Maybe it just needs a re-potting
@@DougChamberlainVTHoyas Thanks I'll check the pot 😊
@@DougChamberlainVTHoyas Thanks again for your advice once I've repotted what kid of light do you recommend.
I’m doing something wrong with mine. Lots of buds but they always fall off just before opening.
You're not the only one that seems to be having that problem Brenda. The only thing I can think of is inconsistent watering? This one never wants to go dry at all.
@@DougChamberlainVTHoyas Same thing happnend to my buds! Good to know!
I was wondering if you’re can plant more than 1 different Hoya varieties in the same pot?
Almost no one does that, but I have done it a few times with unsatisfactory results. It seems that one Hoya always takes over to the weaker one's detriment.
Doug Chamberlain, thank you so much! HUGE fan of yours, thank you for all the tips, tricks and advice. I’m a Hoya beginner and absolutely love your channel!!
@@sasharuth9814 Thank you so much Sasha! I'm sure it won't be long before you've advanced beyond the beginner stage! Hoyas are addictive and a lot of fun!
I'm glad to hear that advice. But I think I bought a huge Hoya in a hanging basket and it appears to have Crimson princess and a !publicala growing in the same hot and they're doing fine but so many different voices has so many different ways to be taking care of that it's not a good idea
@@kathleenmurphy2379 I would think in this case that Hoya pubicalyx would be the ultimate winner in the fight for dominance!
Hi Doug, Im not sure if you will see this, but is their any way to contact you about purchasing a small hoya cutting? Thank you so much fpr ypur time
Hi Raven, you can email me at dougchamberlain61@gmail.com, but I am pretty much out of everything right now, but you can always ask.
I just recently found out you sell on ebay, how do I find your store
I don't have a store, but sell under the name erbtarzan24. The plants there are going for too much money though, I personally would not buy at those kind of prices.
Why are my hoya multiflora pedunkles not opening?
Hi Leslie, I'm unsure why the buds on your peduncles are not opening. Are they yellowing and falling off, or do your peduncles not produce any buds?
That is very pretty plant. Unfortunately, mine died when I left it for two months.
That is too bad, I never go anywhere, and if I did, my plants would suffer for it!
@@DougChamberlainVTHoyas I know, never thought I'll be gone that long though.
@@taterbofus1687 Things just happen sometimes, not much we can do about it:(
Your collection is very beautiful. You done a lot more videos earlier . In the Years but not anymore I wonder why? maybe you're too busy but I hope you stay healthy and bringing some more videos and telling stories about the plant I'm sure You know a lot more about this gorgeous plants . And because of you two years ago I got in love and Hoyas and now I got in my collections only 2 . so thank you very much for that.
I have been very busy this summer, so I have had to cut down on the number of videos that I post. Hopefully I can pick up the pace again in the fall and winter.

@@Ayeray02 dougchamberlain61@gmail.com
Do you sell any thank you
No I don't but, I would check eBay as they used to be very cheap and readily available.
And No fragrance, I want some good serious fragrance but not the bubblegum types
Definitely no fragrance!
my multiflora is so big. it's 3.5 feet wide.
That is incredible! How do you grow it?
@@DougChamberlainVTHoyas i don't do anything special. have had it about 2 years. i planted it in a cactus mix and that's it. it was growing in a south facing (southern cali) window with blinds that were not totally open. it grew there and peduncles formed but would drop off. they held when i moved it into the kitchen (on the floor!). i barely water it - 1x in 2 months. peduncles have fallen, but it's as green as ever, not really growing, just sitting there. i wanted to take cuttings to sell, but would wait til fall if i did that i think. too hot for mail.
