i'm a father for a dislycsic son from Yemen specifically from Sana'a city North side of Yemen' I do really like and loved what i learned to day from this channel' yes i can tell you that my English language its not good enough to understand the whole things but i forced my mind to understand everything by pause the vid and translate it every word and pause again on and on' thank you for this wonderful program.
It's good to hear from you. By studying syllable types of words you can improve a child's ability to break down and decode the words to read them better (in English). I don't know about the other languages.
I took an Orton Gillingham one-week course a few years ago. It was phenomenal! I use the OG approach as a supplement to the curriculum (in a Special Ed. classroom as well as an inclusion classroom) and it's amazing. The students love the activities - they think they're just playing, but boy-oh-boy how they are learning!
Thank you for creating this excellent video. I tried accessing the links to your website in the description. But I get a message that says "website expired."
With English there are ALWAYS exceptions. ;) I teach soft g occurs when followed by i, e, or y. Then, think of the word "get" (hard g). Wilson Reading is an OG based program and it teaches the soft c and soft g rule when followed by i, e, or y also!
Absolutely. OG is not a program but an approach. There are different programs that are all OG based. Barton Reading and Wilson Reading are a couple of big ones. Other programs that use OG approach are All About Reading.
Haha. Look through the comments. You aren't the first, and Gillingham is a name. Besides, ask any person who calls roll and they will tell you that names have all sorts of pronunciations. LOL

Wow I am over 50 and I remember my 5th Grade teacher teaching us how to break the words down.
May I know more rules, like 'c' & 'g'? They are very useful.
Sure! Watch some more of my videos and also check out my Reading Handy Helper on my website!
Great explanation. For some reason the links are not working for me. Would love to look at your resources
My website is not active currently. Let me know what you need, and I'll get you the info.
Your series of videos on how to teach read
7:31 If G is followed by i, it becomes J while pronouncing. Then why doesn't it change in Gillingham? are there any exceptions to the rule?
With English there are ALWAYS exceptions. ;) I teach soft g occurs when followed by i, e, or y. Then, think of the word "get" (hard g). Wilson Reading is an OG based program and it teaches the soft c and soft g rule when followed by i, e, or y also!
Yes, when I teach this, I teach the exceptions (e.g., gift, get, etc.) at the same time.

My child has Dyslexia and ADHD. Would such a program work for a child with both of these?
Absolutely. OG is not a program but an approach. There are different programs that are all OG based. Barton Reading and Wilson Reading are a couple of big ones. Other programs that use OG approach are All About Reading.
what a great way to explain the program... kudos!! new subscriber right here.
Glad you liked it! If you need to promote it, feel free to share. ;)
Website expired 😔
Is this only used for children with dyslexia? My grandson having trouble reading and spelling to the point he has given up on learning to read.
All children can read with this approach!
I really want to learn more about this approach.
Look up syllable types. That explains a lot.
Good morning. I have been trying to get your free guide but I have not been able to. Can’t pull it up. Please tell me how.

Is the g in Gillingham an exception to the rule?
:). Names are almost always exempt, as they are from different areas of the world with different languages and rules for those languages. ;) lol
Haha. Look through the comments. You aren't the first, and Gillingham is a name. Besides, ask any person who calls roll and they will tell you that names have all sorts of pronunciations. LOL
I don’t see any links anywhere
The links are in the video description. :)
Under my profile pic and the title of my page (and sub count) it will say SHOW MORE. Click there, and you will see links.
Are the links above no longer available?
Hi! Let me know how I can help you. I'm still available. However, I took a hiatus from my website since it wasn't bringing in the money we needed. :)
