The Cult had an interesting history, they started out as 'Southern Death Cult", which later became 'Death Cult' then finally 'The Cult'. One of my favourite tracks by them is, "Spiritwalker", which was off of their first album, "Dreamtime". Chris the album with, "She Sells Sanctuary" is their second one, "Love".
Just don't use the version of Spiritwalker from the Dreamtime Live album, it's awful! I saw them on the Dreamtime tour, the second gig I ever went to, they were magnificent. This was when the sadly departed Nigel Preston was still the drummer, He and Jamie formed what I think is one of the best and most underrated rhythm sections to ever grace a stage. No other combination of bass players and drummers they ever had came close, and there's been a lot!
Billy and Morrisey are old mates from way back. i use to rap with Jaime on social media yrs ago. really cool bloke. my Brother met the Cult in the 90s and got all their autographs on a huge poster. they rehearsed and Mates in the valley owned by Bobby, my sis in-law's brother. so very close connection. cheers

My oldest son Strummer just got his driver's licence a little while ago and he drove us to Auckland city on Friday 260ish Kms we went and saw my old friends brand new PUNKROCK band VIGILANT CITIZEN 💥💥💥 it was a short set their first in a small bar. Stefan on guitar played at my 21st birthday in 1991. He's Straight edge but i don't hold that against him 😜
@@JamesDickson-vs5of oh yeah i forgot we went fishing out in the hauraki gulf in a mate's boat it was an awesome day everyone caught a couple of fish except ME 😞 . BUT that's how it goes every time i go fishing I'm just there to make them look good 😜
Love The Cult. They are touring Australia later this year. I'm hoping to go see them. I have the extended rock mix of Wild Flower on cd single and it's brilliant
I don't usely care about the lights at a gig but a couple of really memorable light shows were DAVID BOWIE serious moonlight tour 1983 with dad ❤ . to a 13 year old boy just seeing David Bowie was amazing but that light show is burnt into my feeble little mind. And MINSTRY i can't say one way or another but i wouldn't be surprised if more than a few people had EPILEPSY SEIZURES IN THE CROWD. . Ether way it was AWESOME MINISTRY Big Day Out early nineties
" Wildflower" is my fav Cult song. I also love "Love removal machine" 😊 "She sells Santuary" and " Rain by them are cool too but the vibe of those two songs are a little different from Wildflower and Love removal Machine 😊
Well that's serendipity for you. My copy of Arts of Darkness by John Robb arrived today (the history of Goth music). In celebration, I have had an evening listening to the Cult. I saw them on the Electric tour - the album which contains Wild Flower is very good but only this morning my brother and I were discussing Rick Rubin the producer and came to the same conclusion that we prefer the 2 earlier albums Dreamtime and Love. Check out Go West from Dreamtime or She Sells Sanctuary from Love. In John Robb's book I have learned that Crass were a massive influence on Ian Astbury (he went to Dial House and saw them 36 times). It would be great if you had the courage to play some Crass....
Yep , Great Band , still have their early stuff on Vynil , Love , Electric , Sonic Temple , Ceremony , got a bit samey after that ,,but breath of fresh air in the 80s total contrast to a lot of dross that was around at the time !
AC/DC rip off riff. Check out Rock n Roll Singer from AC/DC. Not sure if coincidence but Malcolm Young used that guitar in Back in Black videos era until he had to stop using cos it got so out of tune so quickly.
The Cult and their Rock phase, i think even they regret it now, given they tour nowadays as Southern Death Cult/Death Cult, playing the old songs, and the few they do from The Cult period, are labelled as covers! Hilarious!
@@harrytrent13 yeah, fair enough. Those records did make them a worldwide thing. Part of my problem is I was(and still am) a big fan of the Southern Death Cult/Death Cult/early Cult stuff, grew up with it, and was young and foolish enough to think they were no longer, "my" band when the Rock phase kicked in. They were the second band I ever saw live, on the Dreamtime tour, phenomenal live act with that particular lineup,....I will always maintain that the rhythm section they had then was one of the finest to ever take to a stage, anywhere, anytime. Saw them years later, during the Rock phase, they just weren't the same, not for my money anyway, they didnt swing anymore. Having said that, there are a couple of moments I do enjoy from the Rock phase, I'm very fond of, Nirvana, that two part guitar solo section is kinda genius.
Thanks for that. I'm 60, and discovered 'the Cult' late. They're music gets me going in the morning!! Billy Idol had a similar voice. Powerful. 🇦🇺👍
I've seen The Cult LIVE a few times in Sydney and they are nothing short of a dynamic powerhouse.
They are one of the best Bands of all time.
