    LOVED this film. I don't play or watch Tennis, but these tennis scenes were exhilarating. The three leads were outstanding. Great direction, Cinematography and editing. And the score by Atticus Ross and Trent rezner was so good hearing that in a Dolby Cinema, it almost made me feel like I wanted to start dancing in the theater as if I was at a house music festival haha 🕺🪩🪭

      I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Luca Guadagnino is rapidly turning into one of the most interesting directors active today. Fingers crossed, Zendaya's fans show up in droves.

      @@geekinwithJamesHancock I know. I want this movie to do so well. My audience was having the best time, it was packed and there was a lot of laughing and visceral responses to what was going on. So they were engaged in the story.

    Saw it this evening in Dolby but want to see it again in IMAX. Was blown away by the film and how Luca incorporated tennis play throughout even in simple conversations. Zendaya was also a producer on this film and the writer is married to Celine Song (director of Past Lives). Totally agree the script was so refreshing. The Emma Stone pivot comparison is interesting given they both have Spiderman history.

    • @geekinwithJamesHancock
      @geekinwithJamesHancock  Месяц назад +3

      You could even take the Stone/Zendaya comparison one step further to Kirsten Dunst working with Lars Von Trier on Melancholia. Seems like going from working on Spidey movies to art house directors is a tried and true path at this point.

    I was surprised how real the tennis looked in Battle of the Sexes but with wooden rackets you didn’t have to move as fast.
    It’ll be interesting seeing how realistic the tennis is in Challengers given how fast and basically superhuman today’s players are. There’s not much action shown in the trailer.

    I loved Call Me by Your Name, so I am looking forward to this one. Thank you, James!
    Edit: I may be absolutely wrong, but I was thinking about the plot of Challengers, or at least what I think the plot may be, and I am getting Y Tu Mama Tambien vibes. I could be wrong. Regardless, I am pumped for this film now. Also, sorry for using the term "vibes". I know it is cringeworthy, but I am still waking up, and the coffee has not quite kicked in yet.

      @@geekinwithJamesHancock - Lmao! Oh, wow! That is awkward.
      The only awkward movie-related story that I can offer in return is that a friend of mine had a one nightstand with his long-time crush. What movie were they watching when they sprung into action, so to speak? Free Willy. Needless to say, when he told his friends what happened, the jokes wrote themselves.

    It's a shame Luca Guadagnino isn't as big (or bigger) of a draw to this movie as Zendaya...who as she stated has never been the star of a movie. I was pretty impressed with her in Dune and Euphoria, so hoping the best for her! Anyway, can't wait to see this!

  • @LisaMcPederson

    This movie was amazing. I don't think people are expecting what this movie brings. The writing, the acting, the editing, and the directing. It was so sexy and good. Zendaya really brought her A game. And, yeah, that scene with her and Josh in the dorm 🥵🥵🥵🥵. This reminds me of when Anne Hathaway went topless in "Brokeback Mountain" because that was sort of her way of saying I'm not a kid anymore. I enjoyed all aspects of this movie, including tennis eve ln though I am not a tennis fan. But thanks to movies like "King Richard," I can certainly appreciate the competitiveness of the game.

    The only issue I have with the film (maybe its the film student in me) is that it feels that Tami (Zendaya character) doesn't have a character arc or doesn't change or consequences by the end of the film and the end tennis match is for me just director telling the audience "look at me I'm an artist, i can do all these crazy artic shots and slow-mo for the 20th time in ten seconds."

    • @geekinwithJamesHancock
      @geekinwithJamesHancock  Месяц назад +6

      I had a slightly different interpretation on the ending where Zendaya's character, who is obsessed with the idea of seeing some real tennis from the beginning of the movie, finally gets to see these two dudes face off to the best of their ability.
