Exactly, the bleak and unsettling tone when Arthur is alone or being victimised, then the ringing combined with the track when he's having disconcerting thoughts and frightening intentions to finally the triumphant music when becomes The Joker and wins is both unnerving and awe-inspiring. Great job
You’re absolutely right! I’ve listened to the music before I watched the movie and it pulled me deeper into the movie. I hope she gets an Oscar for her work.
@@joelmiller2601 if we're gonna get technical, there's no such thing as "everyone" or "no one". Don't you think there's at least one person on this earth that didn't like the score?
We all know the Oscars is rigged, and judging by what the “Media” was saying about this movie, I fear it will effect that. Honestly- best film I’ve seen in over decades.
marocstars im so glad she went with the instrumentation that she did, the lower register of the cello is so great at funneling the sadness, rather than a whiny violin.
Gui Porto it’s definitely a strong contender for an Oscar. The only one I can see competing is HTTYD score, but that’s just me being biased to the fact that I love those films.
It's only natural she's be recommended for the Joker movie, as the directors of Chernobyl and Joker have worked together in the past. With the recognition she's earned, I hope I see her work everywhere in the following years.

Her soundtrack was utterly amazing and I hope she takes the Oscar for movie score. Joaquin will get most of the spotlight, and deservedly so, but we cannot overlook her score. It bridged his performance.
I listen to the Joker (2019) soundtrack by this lady and I can't stop... At school, at work, at home, in the car... Im addicted and I still get goosebumps
Apparently composers love just being able to compose from their own mind, so many complain about composing in post as many scenes are set to temp music which restricts creativity!
Andrew Monck I don’t know about film scores, but I know that when Masafumi Takada wrote the score for a murder mystery game trilogy called DanganRonpa before playing the game or knowing the story because he didn’t want to be spoiled of all the twists and turns the stories take. I absolutely LOVE his score for those games, kind of a weird mixture of classical, jazz, EDM, and rock. Highly recommend listening to his work.
I mean you have to consider that the film is heavily influenced by King of Comedy and Taxi Driver, so in terms of originality, it doesn't have much to offer aside from a few areas. What it does have is the Writing for an Adaption, and the Lead Actor's performance. Maybe Cinematography as well. The score is indeed great, and I think she's an underrated composer no doubt, but the Academy doesn't tend to give Oscars for the sake of the music itself as opposed to the intention behind it, something that differentiates it from the rest, whether it's technical execution, preparation, or some study that really shines through in the movie. Case in point: Black Panther. As a score itself it's not much musically, but the fact that Ludwig went to Africa to research and bathe in Afro-pop, as well as the implementation of unique instrumentation, was the edge that made him win the Oscar. That and the Academy really wanted Black Panther to win for cultural reasons. It's also difficult for a score composer to win an Oscar when the film relies on previously made works and popular/licensed music.
She is brilliant. In the trailer, There are ghosts of circus, Broadway, industrial, and ambient music twisted into something sooo ominous. So excited to see this.
There were few moments in Joker I felt that haunting feeling which was actually beautiful as in Chernobyl, well that explains a lot as she created both of the score
Every apsect of the film is truly a masterclass. Her score was stunning in every sense, and what it did for Pheonix's physical performance is astounding.
I find her so attractive. Not only her looks, but her mind. How in touch she is with her art. I really do hope she gets the Oscar! By far the best score of the year!
This OST for Joker will when an Oscar because the score is absolutely amazing it’s in synch with Jokers every move the motivation behind developing the score based off of her interpretation and feeling then Joaquin takes the music and turns it into what the Joker embodies is AMAZING!
At first time listening to the score n read the name I though Hildur was a guy. I'm quite familiar with the work by Hank Zimmer etc but later became suprised knowing Hildur was a woman. She's so good. Thank you Hildur. Since i left cinnema past 3 days ago I only hear OST from Joker. My fav track is bathroom dance, defeated clown, call me the joker n all of them including white room by cream
Dark, ambient, harrowing, haunting and sorrowful. And that final triumphant piece when he’s on the car.... Top tier soundtrack. Bought it the following day. I’ll now listen to anything this woman makes.
This is the first instance I've ever known of a woman scoring a movie (although I'm sure there are others). And I must say she absolutely smashed it, the score was every bit as gripping and powerful as the onscreen action, especially at the end when the Joker smears the blood smile on his face. Brilliant stuff. 🙌
The score is so important and relevant in this movis that, in my opinion, it has become a character in itself. Hildur is an amazing composer. I wish she’ll get way more appreciation for the work she does.
I thought I heard Philips say he played her score on set while filming. Never heard of that before. Also, That final act with music playing While joker is center stage in the midst of the riot is one of the most haunting scenes I've seen before. She better be nominated.
That scene gave me physical chills, something I have not gotten from a movie for a very long time, maybe since that one moment in the sixth sense. I saw the same interview about playing the music while filming, it must really set the tone and help the cast and crew make everything into a cohesive whole.
Yes, that actually happened. Apparently there was no dance in the bathroom scene in the original script, Arthur was supposed to wash his makeup and hide the gun. Phillips felt like it didn't feel right, so he played the theme of the scene to Joaquin, and he improvised the dance, which both director and actor loved to be the actual scene and made it happen.
Joker score is truly special. I have never heard anything like Joker original score. It’s so unique and so different from others blockbusters films. She did an amazing job. Best original film score for Oscar 2020 👏🏼👏🏼

It's crazy how we hear that violin music throughout the film before we actually see the Joker, in the midst of hiding, dance along with it and it's as if we hear the music for the first time. I have always said that musical scores play a big part in how well a movie turns out and this movie is gold!
From the subway to the bathroom dance is about 4-5 minutes. What she managed to do in that time is nothing short of amazing. Pure horror to haunting beauty. This movie is pure electric.
