Wolf looing happy, nice to see. I follow your videos for one simple reason! You have the patients and vast knowledge on how to, and resolve tricky difficult issues with ease. Don' get upset to those that can only work one way or think their method is superior, because once again I not only learned much about how to but you gave inspiration to have ago and "not worry too much as you are working in wood" Perhaps in the near future I will learn and be guided on single planking.
Thank you very much for your kind words John!!! I always saw " wood does forgive mistakes" not all of them but a lot. So give it a try, you might end up with a work of art and you will enjoy the trip :)
This is exactly the same problem i had on the bow glueing the second layer. It is great you show us the difficult part in making this model. Great work John.
Hey John, while it is trying for you, I do appreciate seeing you work through the 2nd layer of planks as it helps me learn how to do it. I can see for a modeler like you, probably doing the one layer is more effective and we know that it already looks great. Great job and waiting for the next video.
John, this is looking very good but you clearly prefer to do one layer only. I can see why. My skill level is such that two layers are necessary but hopefully by the time I do my next model, I will also be able to complete the hull with just one layer of planking. Good morning Wolf. These videos are really helpful to me, thank you. Keran
You are correct Keran, for me the 2nd layer is just a waste of time, but in this model is necessary. You will be able to make one layer models very soon, have faith in your self :)
On my last ship, I soaked the wood. I put ca glue at key places and white glue on most of the planking. I used a plank bender iron to iron on the planks, which applies heat and pressure to the planks. The heat sets the white glue.
I am building the 1805 Virginia Pilot Boat 1/50 scale and I am at this stage. Your technique is my favorite and I too dislike gluing my fingers to the ship. I have more trouble getting the glue where I want it than you. Are you using thin CA glue or medium? Thanks!
Hi Scotty! Thank you very much!!! I am using thin but i am sure that the medium will not get through the strips that easily. The medium though won't come out easily from the tips that i use :)
Hi Keith! Yes the sapely is the appropriate wood for the hull. It is very easy, you cover everything with the thin wood strips and some wood putty at the same color.
Hi John, another great video, thanks so much. I am only building my first model at the moment so by no means any sort of authority. However, I actually enjoyed the second layer over the first as it was so much easier. You seemed to struggle a lot with the second layer. Have you ever tried using contact cement for the second layer? Where you coat the hull surface and the plank with the contact adhesive and when they are dry lay the plank down slowly inch by inch where they bond instantly and then simply rub it with a hard object to make certain the edges are stuck down. You have to be careful obviously because it bonds instantly but the advantages are that its quick and easy and you don't have to hold pressure on the planks. I didn't know of any other method so I went with the video instruction that came with the kit and just found it very easy.
Hi Moike, i use this glue www.super-hobby.com/products/KLEJ-CYJANOAKRYLOWY-CA-RZADKI-20g.html it takes only seconds to dry but in some cases it's hard if it doesn't glued with the 1st try. It's all about the sanding to get the surfaces to glue together.
Hi Moike. Which brand/type contact glue do you use? I saw on one of Occre's videos that they use NOVOPREN contact glue, but it seems hard to find in UK.
Hi John.. sorry there was another question .. Have you ever used contact glue ? As you are very clean and precise with the glue you use and i have heard it can stain the wood.
@@keithcheeseman567 I believe that everybody deserves an answer in his question, if you took the time to ask or leave a comment i should take the time to answer :) I am trying my best :)
Appreciate you patience in showing us how to do the second layer.
Glad it was helpful Kevin!!!

Thanks for taking the time to do the second planking, it is much appreciated.
I am glad that you like it Keith!!!

It's tricky, it is good for the people with no experience but it 'a pain in the b... for the others.
Thanks for the video John coming along lovely mate love to all and stay safe 👍🐕🐕
Glad you enjoyed it George!!! Thank you very much :)
Stay tuned ... Second Layer in Progress ....... The result will surprise you! Good Job once again
Thank you very much my friend!!! Yes the result will transform the entire ship!
Planking is no longer a black art thanks for all your help and videos
Glad i was able to help Chris :)

Thank you very much Paddy!!! Yes for an experience modeler it is a waste of time, but it is very helpful if you do not have experience :)
Nice job, John....it's looking good.
Thank you very much Michael, yes she is transforming !!!
It will be beautiful once it is under a coat of varnish - well worth the effort. I love seeing how this ship is coming together.
Thank you very much Dominic!!! You will love this one :)
I feel bad now that I voted for a double planked hull a couple of weeks ago. John hates double planking! 😆 😆
I do!!! But the voting is complete so i would do La Candelaria with 2 layers.

Like i always say, i am showing one way of doing things, there are many more.

Hi John and Wolf, i can see why you just want to do a Sapeli hull for the first layer.
Is it easy to correct mistakes while on this part of the ship?

Yes, it is almost as the CA glue, it gives you some more time though.
Hi John.. sorry there was another question .. Have you ever used contact glue ? As you are very clean and precise with the glue you use and i have heard it can stain the wood.
I use only CA glue Keith and after the varnish nothing is visible :)
