    I've driven my 124 Spider 3 winters now. Last year I got an instructor to give me pointers on an icetrack and it's a helluva lot of fun 😀

      Nice! It's a great way to have fun and test how the car handles when pushed to the slippery limits, but at lower speeds that don't have high-risk consequences.

      @Konradest Месяц назад

      @FlyinMiataVideo I did not say anything about lower speeds 😆 With proper studded tires and 200hp the Abarth can be pretty brisk.

      Ha! Fair enough! As Keith mentioned in the video, the correct tires and a bit of common sense go a long way to having fun in the snow with your Miata (or Fiata). 😉

    Great topic to prolong the fun season! Ordinary studded street tyres does not open the miata potential on ice really. But even a stock 1.6L on R14 ice studded tyres is so much fun on a plowed lake track! No more spinouts, only control and action. Sun's out - top's down!
    Snow doesn't rot your car - the salt detergents do, wash that poison off after being out.
    Cheers from northern Sweden 😉

    I’ve winter driven my Miata on 185 width Firestone winter force tires in the past. True fun has been had.

    I haven’t ice raced, but anytime it snows and the Dept. of Public Works hasn’t laid down the salt, fresh powder in the nearby courts and roundabouts is hilarious fun at like 8 mph.

    It sounds like a stock miata suspension would actually be pretty good for snow/ice racing?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Месяц назад

      Soft springs and a lot of travel is a good idea for low grip stuff. Stock shocks and springs would probably work pretty well.

    Any suggestions on where to actually do this in Colorado? George Town ice racing on there website says you need a awd or 4wd to get on there track.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  17 дней назад +1

      Yeah, I noticed some events at Georgetown don't allow non-AWD vehicles but these folks do. iceracing.trackrabbit.com/
      There's also a snow track in the El Jebel area that has offered track time in the past but it sounds like they're skipping this year. Shoot us an email next season and I might have better news. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Keith. Thanks for the video. I have my daily driven Miata ND and plan to race in local amateur ice rally here in Vladivostok, Russia.
    Just bought best available winter tires, set wheels alignment to default factory values.
    Do you think it worth to unscrew one rear link to completely disable the rear swaybar ? Maybe front too?
    And one big problem here is Tein Monosport suspension in my car. It is stiff even in softest position of adjust screws. I hope I dont loose much only due to stiff susp.
    I will share my videos. Thanks again for the content.

      Thanks for watching!
      Softer suspension with a lot of travel is probably better for this kind of stuff, both things that you're leaning away from with your suspension. Doesn't mean you can't have fun, though!
      Disconnecting your sway bars for this is probably a good idea.

    Can we have a video discussing drifting in a Miata?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Месяц назад +2

      We may not be the most qualified for this. We'll put it on our list, but I suspect we'll leave this one to the experts.
      We're very much grip people that accidentally and most certainly not at all on purpose hang the tail out on the track at times.

  • @Rot05

    I would imagine, ice drifting would be popular, all of the fun of drifting without burning up tires? (I would assume).

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Месяц назад +1

      Not much tires burning up on the snow/ice. It's hard to get a tire hot when it's literally on ice.
