  • Propagating ZZ plants is super easy, in fact i would say that propagating zz plants is just as easy as propagating succulents! You can take just about any portion of this plant for your propagation including the leaves, stems (petiole), and rhizome division. ZZ Plants are great to have in the house because they are almost bulletproof and require very little light or water to thrive.

I got a ZZ from someone else who propagated it it back in May 2021 (7 months ago)
It has produced new Rhizomes but no stem/leaf growth yet. Any tips on how to get it going, or is this normal?

I've asked a couple of plant people (at local nurseries) why there's a small leaf sticking out half way at the base of my ZZ plant. No one explained like this video did, that it was propagated by a leaf, and that's the remainder of it. Wow! thanks for answering a question I've had ever since I purchased my 1st ZZ plant over a year ago!

Because at places like Home Depot, Lowe's, or Walmart and some small nurseries, the people working there aren't plant people. They don't know the answers to your questions.
A lot of times, a vendor brings the plants in and they're just a barcode to those selling them. Sometimes they know the names, and often they're incorrect.
So if you want to know something about the plants you're interested in, you need to find a local grower, or a large nursery where these plants come from.

Thanks for mentioning to keep the water clean, I changed mine almost everyday because one of the containers kept having some white furry growth on the cutting edge. It really helps, the other container's ZZ plant has roots about 2cm now! 🥰 Took it a month, also I put a pothos cutting together with it because I read that helps speed up the process. Anyway thanks again for this video!! 👍

Question, sorry if I missed it in the video: how long do I keep the soil moist after to transfer it to soil? I know they like to be dry but I have to keep it moist for a time so the roots can develop.

    • @AraceaeFanatics
      @AraceaeFanatics 2 года назад +8

Unfortunately your question wasn't answered when you asked it, and after a year I'd imagine you either had success or a failure.
When transferring any plant from water to soil, it's best to water about every other day for the first week and a half to 2 weeks, depending on how well draining the soil is, the heat where the plant is, and the surrounding humidity. For anyone else who might have this question.

I accidentally broke off a leaf so I popped it in a bottle of water and forgot it. 3 months later it had a small root and within a month 3 roots so I potted it up. Seemed too easy.

When the ZZ plant leaves or stems (depending on method used) are ready to add to a pot, should you pot multiple leaves/stems together in one pot for a fuller zz plant, or would it be too over-crowded with multiple zz plants growing in one pot? Or is just one leaf/stem per pot enough for a full, bushy zz plant? Thanks!

Depends on how big your pit is and how quickly you want it to fill up. I would suggest 3 for an 8--12" pot. You can always thin out later if needed 🌿

You can actually see in the video thats exactly how they propagated this plant at the nursery. they took a cutting and planted it in the soil.

too much sunlight or not enough water changes, its also possible that whatever you cut it with could have introduced disease. How long have they been in the water?

I bought a zz plant from nursery, chose the one where it has more mature stems. Brought home and straightaway separated from the rhizomes and got 3 sets out of one. 2 had success (haven't watered both since December) as I got the 3rd set rotten roots and got scared to water the other 2. They have new growth since and they are on my hallway with zero lights. I figured they really don't like any attention.
Also the other one that root rot. I cut the rotten roots and placed it in water thinking I won't loose anything for trying. I have new roots now and ready to be back in soil.

@@hasleyjoykluba1265 How do you know when to water them? I have the same problem with snake plants. I've resulted to the touch test I get to know what they feel like the day after watering, how firm it is, and check their water level by touching the foliage because as we know the soil can be dry, but the plant is full, and watering them will cause rot.
