    You can remove the five 7/16 bolts and slide the entire mechanism to the left, then remove the three 5/16 bolts that hold the motor on. Saves a lot of aggravation and time. I had everything out in less than ten minutes. Then put it all in the parts washer and cleaned off thirty years of grease and dirt.

    Spent over an hour searching for your video..because I have to work on an 1985 Suburban tailgate window, and while not the same vehicle..figured it would be a good template on how to work on mine.. always remembered your caution about that actuator. I must say your presentation was excellent.and I'm glad I took the time to find you..downloaded the vid for safe keeping....keep on cooglin'...:)

    I changed entire motor, but saved old one as spare. Saw this video after, Great vid. Yes those spring loaded arms are guillotines, beware ! I put window all the way up with tailgate down, very little spring pressure, and left window in place. You can work between window and motor with 1/4" drive shallow socket

    Thanks a lot for this video! It made repairing my tailgate window motor assembly a piece of cake. For posterity's sake, I used 7/16" steel bearing balls from my local Ace Hardware 7/16" = 11.11 mm. Give the materials and assembly, I think that's within tolerance. :-) Works great.

    Mine rolls up and down alright. Just struggles to go up, I have to assist it. I think it’s the motor? Also my bracket things that holds that whole motor thing rusted out on the bottom. It’s that white flat piece of metal that you can see in your video. Mine is brown from rust. The bottom of my tailgate rusted out. I found about 3 inches of clay packed at the bottom. I guess from 30 years of dust getting washed from the back window down. I live in Hawaii too so everything rusts. What size lift and tires do you have? I was thinking about 4” lift with 33” tires. Idk if I should try to fix my bronco or by a f150 which doesn’t have a fancy tailgate window thing.

    When you say both of these for the sensor do you mean the latches on both side of the tailgate or just both parts of that clip?

  • @RW4X4X3006
    @RW4X4X3006 3 года назад +1

    If your window is slow or stuck, first thing is to lube the side seals and regulator assy. They get jammed due debris getting in there and non use.

    Pretty sure its the motor on mine, no sound from the motor its stuck in the up position so, I guess I have to work from inside with window up... maybe a couple of blocks of wood to keep the window from crashing down on my fingers

    My issue is I can’t get the window to roll back up, I closed the latches like you mentioned window is sill locked in the down position. Can’t get it rolled down with the switch or the key.

    Mine's completely inop', from the cabin too. Nothing, no clicks, or anything when I try to switch it with the lock in back or with the switch up front. No juice to the motor; with the key in the back or from the instrument panel up front. I checked the CB, it's working with the door locks (which it controls too) so that's not the prob'. The tailgate window is up now. I'd like to move it down so I can work on it. Do you have any suggestions for my quandary?

    • @BustMonk
      @BustMonk  4 года назад +1

      Maybe open the panel up on the tailgate and out power directly to the motor from a spare battery you have to see if the motor is toasted? I suppose that's what I would do, I would bet the motor is toast but could be a fuse too so check that before doing anything else.

    • @aaronhjelmstrom9727
      @aaronhjelmstrom9727 4 года назад

      I'm having the same issue. The motor is good, I jumped it from the battery to the plug that sits just under the motor. Next there is a round plug just behind the gas tank on the driver's side under the truck. Unplug that, use test light because it's easier, you'll need a 2nd person to work the switch from the dash. 1 pin should be hot when the switch is pushed up and another for down. Make sure you have a good ground to get a good reading. I have power there too, my next step is to pull the harness after that plug and look for damage.

    Why are you replacing the window motor if your key switch and motor work? Mine doesn't work and needs replacing. That's why its stuck. Halfway between up and down. I can neither lower my tailgate or access my window's motor.
