Considering the amount of wine that the elves in Mirkwood (Legolas's home) drank for the many parties they had, I bet that Legolas is just trolling everyone by pretending to be a stuck up Elf who never drank before.

Why is no one talking about the look Eomer gives Legolas when he says: "I feel something" 😅😂
That was so YMCAble
"Am I about to look upon a drunken' elf?"
Priceless
I really like this scene. It's like a calm moment after a storm, but before another one. It's great for character development. You can see how Theoden actually feels to be flawed and not worthy of his fathers, how Eowyn knows that Aragorn loves another and so her uncle's words about him can never be true for her, how Pippin, looking at Gandalf, realises that evil is out there, despite the laughter and songs, and things can't be as they were in the Shire. Plus, I love Gimli drunk

Aragorn didn't say that? :-)
Glad to see that I wasn't the only one that noticed that. Theodan admitted that it wasn't him that let rohan to victory.
@Brianna Jenell he did kind of fudge it up, he could've simply taken a lesson from the Numenorians when they came to challenge Sauron and all his armies fled after seeing them specifically more so when the kids arrive to Edoras and Gandalf says go out and meet them. Instead of holing them up in helms deep.

Acording to the extra materials for this film, John Rhys-Davis (Gimli) did not follow the scripts. He totally free-winged it and improvised. Ultimately Peter Jackson kept this since it was funny and well acted, a shame they had to make some cut's for the theater.

Can I just say that Sir Ian McKellen's performance as Gandalf is my personal favourite through all three films, he conveys so much with his eyes its incredible. Bernard Hill as Theoden is another standout, unlike many of the other characters he needs to display many different emotions other than stoicism.
Can we all stop please for a moment to appreciate the beauty of this scene? It's been so many years and I haven't seen such a scene again in filmography.
True.
Cheers. Masterpiece Trilogy.
Despite the infinite superiority of the books, this musical theme for Rohan is the one thing that always brings me back to the best films of all time: this trilogy.
@@lucgermain9310well tbf, you can't expect the books to play soundtrack now can you?😂
part of the reason why people still love this trilogy is because of how well the filmmaking was from a technical aspect
of course there's the acting (if Gollum was too over the top, it would have ruined the movies) and devoted fans of the source material for sure...but it often goes so overlooked how great the cinematography was, the editing, the makeup, costuming, set designs etc. There are so many times you genuinely forget they're filming in a real location because everything looks fantastical
Love the reactions of Éomer.

He's such a noble guy!.😂😂😂
I'd be hoping for more than that from her. 😂
I read somewhere that Frodo and Sam didn’t need to go to Mordor to destroy the One Ring. They could of destroyed the One Ring by putting it in her stew.
The way she looked at Aragorn, you see the light of love glowing in her eyes. But we all know she truly shined on Faramir in the end
@G E T R E K T 905
Eyowen had a hard life and Aragon was the first man outside her family to see her strength and passions. Unlike that sleezball Grima Wormtougne being a creep stalker trying to seduce her, Aragon cares for her as the sheild-maiden she always wanted to be. That's when she started to have feelings for him. However
Aragon is in love with Arwen and told her he doesn't love her and he's sorry. True, it was hard but she accepts and later meets Faramir.
@G E T R E K T 905 Please don't generalize women like that.
When you generalize someone or something you're identifying them as a whole. The way you said it was "ALL women" are ignorant or unfeeling.
All human beings (men, women of all ages, races, color, religion, background, sexual orientation, gender identity and whatever) have the capability to love and be loved. It is a learning process. No one is perfect. Not even me.

4:20 Aragorn asking What does your Heart tell you and seeing Gandalf's reaction is such a powerful scene.
Didnt Gandalf say in the first movie to Frodo at Moria “my heart tells me Gollum still has a part to play..” did hearing Aragorn say that refresh Gandalf’s memory/heart?
@@phillipfry9765The thing about Gandalf is that while he has a recollection of how the first song goes and, as such, knows the fate of all things in broad strokes, on taking mortal shape his memories of Valinor and Eru have been covered by a dream-like veil. Have you ever awoken from a dream uncertain of whether or not something truly happened? That's why he doubts his own judgement.
Yes, one of Gandalf’s powers is foresight. He can foresee certain things even though he doesn’t really know the details, he’s not all knowing after all. He can also sense things from afar. Here for example he can tell that Frodo is still alive but once he reaches Mordor he can’t because Sauron has essentially put up a magic nullifier in Mordor. I think the reason he asked if they knew for sure is because of what Saruman said. Saruman’s main power is his voice and I think his words hit Gandalf hard for that reason
He really was "hope" personified
I don't care how badass any other character in this story is.....if I have to pick one to party with, Gimli. Loves his food, loves his liquor, handy to have around in a bar fight. Questionable tastes in women, but hey, we've all been there after we've had 7 or 8 too many.
In Gimli's case, 30 too many
Meh, I'd take Merry and Pippin. You know that you'd have a good time with those two around.
My fav comment on this video!
@Yunita Fatikhasari I agree, can't beat his taste at all!
Eh, I'd go with Legolas. Tall, good-looking and will always give me an excuse to leave the party when it gets too wild XD
"What does your heart tell you?"
Aragorn
For those who are mourning that Aragorn never chose Eowyn.... In the first draft of the LotR series, he actually had Eowyn and Aragorn marry. He changed it later on so that everything was very completing, with the old lines of Beren and Luthien meeting again, etc. And, I honestly love Faramir and Eowyn together too just as much as I believe in Eowyn and Aragorn working out.
No, nyet...Aragorn belongs to Arwen. will always belong to Arwen....
@@waterbird91 Aragorn belongs to no one. He can choose who he wants.
After all they had been through, the first time my sister and I saw Faramir and Eowyn together, we awed over it so much. Faramir needs some real loving after the horrid way his father treated him. And Eowyn has someone who will be so tender and devoted to her. They deserve each other so much!

"Tonight we remember those who gave their blood to defend this country."
Imagine how hard it must be for some of those men who maybe lost their closest friend in the battle
well aragorn lost haldir at that battle
You do realize that there were elders and kids fighting at Helms Deep right. The fact that they all died, that just makes it darker and depressing
You ass now I'm sad
Aragorn didn't just lose Haldir, he lost most, if not all, of the Elves and Men he commanded. That pause before he drinks shows how the battle affected him...how the loss of all those lives affected him. And you don't just see it with Aragorn, but with Theoden too. Those men are true kings...they have fought and won many battles, but along with the glory of victories comes the guilt of the lives lost, particularly because those Elves and Men were under their command.
the best thing for losing a close friend is a nice drink, it's a small escape in a big world. Trust me i know

Giorgi Gogolashvili RIP
Aww. If they had lived, they would've gotten along so well with Merry and Pippin! Why did Tolkien kill them off?
The actors playing the Hobbits (Merry and Pipin?) were told by Jackson to just get up on the table and dance a jig and sing, pure improv. They drew upon some of their real life pub experience. I'd say they did pretty well.
That's not true. The song was written by Philippa Boyens, as stated on the director's commentary. The first shot of them dancing is also a pretty complex visual effect that was accomplished in multiple takes using a motion controlled camera, with Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan dancing against a blue screen and then being rotoscoped into a live action shot featuring all the extras cheering. This is how they achieve the scale effect of Merry and Pippin appearing to be 3 feet tall. Notice the cup that Dominic Monaghan kicks onto the soldier's lap. That's a visual effect added to try and sell the illusion that they are in the same space. The timing has to match in each take so Dominic Monaghan has to kick the cup at exactly the right moment, which means that neither the song nor the dance could've been improvised.
@@BenMoranFilms ya I'd have to agree with you. I mean maybe Peter told them they could make up there own routine and they got on a table and made it up before filming and figuring out what to do and maybe there was a bit of improve but most of this would need to have be reversed lest they risk kicking someone in the head.

Theoden acknowledging Aragorn's leadership on this scene adds so much WEIGHT to him leading the ride of the Rohirrim later on the story, which became his redemption for his weakness and failures on The Two Towers!
@@julespulp214 Some say that he made mistakes in TTT, but it's also said (and I'm up for that opinion) that his every choice in that movie was actually the strategic move he had to do.
I really think that.
In this scene Eowyn's elegance and cuteness are an overload (1:51), and yet a lil sad to know her love for him is not granted as well..
Legolas is hilarious in this! Though have been wondering, if he didn't get drunk by drinking that amount of alcohol, how in the world did the elves in the 2nd hobbit pass out and let Bilbo steal his keys if they have such a good endurance? ;D
Elves have their own alcohol that is a lot stronger than men or dwarves. It has to be strong in order to have them feel anything
Eleven wine is much stronger than human wine
Actually, it's not known if the wine was elven, it came from a place called Dorowin, which we don't know much about except it had lots of vineyards and heavily intoxicating wine.
I was wondering how much Whisky or Rum or Vodka it would take to get them drunk.

Howard Shore's the true hero of the trilogy
Through age....grows wisdom...you can rewatch this for 100 years..you will always see something new ..so as in life you look at each day differently...you will always have a new impression on this trilogy as you get older.
Rewatching this scene for the first time in years, two things stuck out to me:
Viggo's acting is just killer here!
Legolas's slight tingle in his fingers always made me laugh when I was younger, and I'm happy to report it still does today.
And that backward edited shot at the begining of a scene. Can't unsee it.
Edoras seems nicer to live then Minas Tirith. Beautiful countryside, plenty of cool horses, and you don't have to hike up those damn slopes all the time
Minas Tirith has to have some sort of lifts probably...
Plus they know how to party
Legolas is the prince of the elves who love wine and fighting you couldn't pick a worse person to go against
That look between gandalf and pippin hits me. Their relationship reminds me of mine and my dad's. He would get angry with me and call me an idiot and other derogatory names. Before he died I asked him why. He said "because you always acted like a twat when you weren't one. You weren't stupid you just kept doing stupid things when I knew you were capable of much more. And I'm proud to see you grew up and wised up". Anyway great great films. They all are from an unexpected journey to return of the king. If middle earth was real, I'd move there in a heartbeat and smoke a joint with radagast 🤣🤣
I admire the aragorn character such a humble honorable strong king of Gondor
And Theo even more humble.
At the drinking game the rohirrim in the background 1:03 is in fact the movies genius composer Howard shore.
Legolas scared of being affected by the drink is the most perfect scene i ever seen in my life
Any one of us who has seen The Hobbit trilogy movies, realizes that the elves of Mirkwood have been chugging fine wine (translation: fortified brandy) for quite a while. Coupled with the fact that Legolas is of noble blood, it's no surprise that Legolas can hold his liquor (by experience and by metabolism).
Legolas is always the designated “drunk” driver of the group
What a masterpiece this movie is
Theoden sees all. I love that look on his face when he sees something.
That's why he's king
Aragorn, the King is emerging, even now he reassures Gandalf when even he is having a moment of doubt.
Yes, and it's a very important moment to realize they actually don't know whether Sam and Frodo haven't died right after the fellowship split.
"it was not Theodan of Rohan who led our people to victory" aaand yet another reason why Theodan's an awesome King; he's humble and not an arrogant asshole.
Bruh, Aragorn the way you locked eyes while drinking the drink Eowyn gave you and the consistent long silent gazes you give here whenever you guys talk....How could you blame Eowyn from making advances hahaha.

4:29 I always took this to be Gandolf lying to Aragorn and himself. He doesn’t truly believe that Frodo is alive but tries to comfort both by saying he is. Just because Sauron does not have the ring doesn’t mean Frodo hasn’t died somewhere out in the middle of the wild

04:15 I like this scene alot. Aragon's voice breaks when asking "What does your heart tell you?", like he's afraid of what Gandalf may answer ? On the other hand, Gandalf remembers something like a piece of his past when asked this. Powerful scene.

At 1:28, Éowyn says "westu Aragorn hál", which translates as "Be thou Aragorn hale (well)" and is a greeting in the Rohirric language. This comes straight from the books, where Tolkien inserted a lot of Old English and Beowulfian influence for the people of Rohan.

I absolutly dont because noadays women are nothing to be proud about but rather disgusted because all that feminist propaganda.
Dark Voice Every woman that thinks like a normal human being wants a man that could protect her. That is something natural. And there is no lie every man wants to be someone like Aragorn ;). And every woman wants.someone like Aragorn.
As I said I wouldnt want to be that. At all. Also from LotR women only like Varda, Galadriel or maybe Nienna would really get me horny. But other than that I would rather be a mentor alone without woman. If I turned into Aragorn I would hate myself.
