Truth be told in a knife this size, 95 percent of people wouldn't be able to successfully use those quillions to catch a blade even if they were steel!!! The days of parry riposte and counter are dead and gone except for the very few that are trained to do so!!! Even knife people don't live by the blade like folks did before!!! Nope, that's why they just used krayex for them, cause you're more likely to slip your hand up your own blade even in a knife fight nowadays than you are to use your blade to block an incoming attack. Having seen many knife fights on the streets and in the system as a correctional officer most people don't even hardly do defense except maybe with their off hand which usually ends up cut up!!! They usually just try to do more damage than the other guy, and the so called winner( nobody wins a knife fight except to stay alive!!! ) is only decided by who gives out first!!! It's ugly and brutal, but that's the truth of it!!! Even if you're trained you're not gonna do defense against the monsters that'll comes against you except to be more aggressive than them in your offensive response, cause partying and stuff like that doesn't work when the other guy is not following any rules!!! Now with a sword you might have a bit more success, but it'll still be limited!!!
Thanks for looking at the sheath for more than 2 sec. Great dremel tip and thanks for showing the soft guard. Is the boar hunter also a soft handle guard?
that is an unfair comparison, the Black Bear Classic was a premium made knife and you paid a premium price for it. It screamed class and was, as you imply a great knife. The OSS (even in the san mai III variant) were priced far lower, had a more budget orientated handle and was marketed toward a different type of person (those of us who missed out on buying the BBC or could not afford to buy one then or now, if you could even find one) I bought a aus-8a OSS for AUD$70 and it is great. BTW I have several san maiIII (Japanese made Cold Steel) the Trail Master, Outdoorsman and Master Hunter and can attest that the quality of Cold Steel hasn't diminished over the years (I only just bought the Outdoorsman recently) and have many, many other CS products, ranging from their budget stuff to their premium stuff and overall their QC is usually excellent.
I really like the grip on that blade handle. Very cool.
If I was going to a knife fight, I'd stay home.
Love the OSS! I can't wait till the 2013 Marauder is available

Yes, it's Kraton. Not too soft but it does flex a little =)
nice blades god bless u and urs
It looks like it!
I got same knife only with VG1 SanMai III steel. Paid twice as more .
Nice knife, Here in the UK it costs $140 - $150 :(
How weak is that tip? Considering say, hitting bone or going through body armor
I think it would break pretty easy , it's only .07 thick at the tip =)
oss or leatherneck
Cold Steel makes some great quality knives, the only downfall is where they're made
want!
the guard is lousy... I like the trailmaster much better as a fighting knife (better than the K-Bar)
Unless your thor with that trail m. The oss would 2x faster and can come back on a miss and strike cuz double edge.
Compared to the Black Bear Classic the new OSS is "Garbage." The quality of Cold Steel has just went down Hill and straight to hell.
