Great video, agree entirely. Just to add that so much of this game is about spotting enemy and getting shots in before they see you. I attach sniper to an infantry unit without one to get very useful sight range extension. In defense, park him slightly forward of main line prone in foxhole on return fire or even no-fire mode; your whole line can open up with a couple of volleys before they can return fire. Also would say it's real important to shoot only a few times, smoke, and then shift location. Load up sniper with extra smokes and bandages prior to engagement if possible.
I love playing with the sniper, but at the same time I find it much more practical, when it comes to optimizing the time of the match, to destroy the capture points with katyushas and then mop up with tanks and infantry so you can move on further up.
thx and awesome job on this, i dig all ya work on what is a hidden gem of a game and it keeps getting better thx again for all ya videos on GOH stuff !!!
I put a sniper behind my main line to cover my AT-guns when I was defending a frozen river. I just placed him prone behind a fence, and moved him just once during the battle. HMGs stopped the blobs of enemy infantry, but several solitary enemy soldiers made it across the river, and threatened the guns. My sniper picked off every enemy one of them, and saved the day. I experienced the issue with frozen sniper in building, though. But not the same guy ;-)
The issue when in a building is a real problem. But i found a way to use snipers in conquest. Just put him in a bush or a tree a few meters behind your frontal soldiers and he shines. My Finnish Sniper scored 43 kills in a early defence on conquest.
Snipers do not aim for the head because its smaller target than chest. And if you hit enemy in the chest he will be out of the game but still need medical attention, so it binds more enemy soldiers to help out the downed one.
My point was that snipers will go for head shots if that's available. It's the reason soldiers put helmets on a stick over cover. I never said they don't go for the chest. The game doesn't prioritize the shot properly and is cause for inconsistencies. Just wanna be clear
@@PuggoRebornChannel *moviesnipers. The way we where trained: We aim for the collarbone. because under 300m, we will hit the head. over three hundred meters you start hitting the belly and legs. ;)
Sure, but I'm not putting my point on moviesnipers. It's a trick used often that Hollywood glorifies. A stationary target with shoulder to head exposed calls for one shot. My whole point was that in a game, snipers need to prioritize headshots. At the end of the day, it's about how to make a unit worth a damn. Snipers, unfortunately, miss the mark in GoH
@@PuggoRebornChannel Facts. Any sniper worth their salt would take an easy picking at a stationary head that hasnt moved, or is shilloetting themselves, etc. So, why dont AI snipers in this game do what a real sniper worth their salt would do. Not sure what VonGrav is on about
Snipers aim for center of mass, never, never a real sniper will risk a headshot, only times sniper hits in head is if target is close and head is the only visible body part.
What made Simo Häyhä even more deadly was be cause he didn't use a scope and that's how he could pick the soviet snipers easily by seeing their glint. He also laid still a long time so the snow would pile on him and made the camouflage even more authentic.
There are 2 main problems and one quirk I noticed… 1. you are too close, snipers are actually really good at picking off field guns so long as you hit them from 120, as the vision range for artillery men is 100 meters so they can’t spot outside of that distance so you can freely fire 2. You aren’t taking advantage of camouflage, snipers have stealth bonuses when hiding in tall grass and bushes, going prone in an open field gives no bonuses to this and allows them to be spotted when they shoot, but this is a common thing with all stealth units… nobody hides them and waits on hold fire for the enemy to get in the kill range to unload, or in the case of the sniper having the spotting distance for him to use his 120 meter range gun As for the quirk, sniper AI focuses on if it can be detected when choosing to fire while prone, if you have him stand up he will always take the shot, but if prone or behind cover the ai measures of taking the shot will get them spotted and will hold fire if the answer is yes
Love a lot of the micro-managing in this game (or would if I was given time to), but fully agree that the AI should be able to be left to get on with it.
Sniper is OK in support with another unit but to do what you really need doing needs a human using it I take over the unit myself Giving other non sniper soldiers the scoped rifle seems more efficient also It's was probably nerfed to make it less oppressive Thanks for the vid
You get snipers to annoy the fck out of the opponent. Other then that, in the grand scheme of things, your better of getting line infantry. I have found an excellent use for the sniper however. If you pair him up with an officer (or someone with binocs), have them on return fire. You can snipe high value targets. This includes: Other officers, particularry annoying mg'gunners or my favorite; other snipers. Its funny that the AI on these guys sucks when used by players, but whenever the AI (game ai, lika an AI: Hard) uses them they are the absolute bane of my existence.
Is this issue still present would you say? I’ve only just started playing the game and I’ve been loving your guides me and my friends have mainly been doing the campaign coop but have improved thanks to you :)
Unfortunately, it still is an issue. I'm not sure Barbwire will change the targeting to stationary units, but one could hope. Glad my guides could serve you guys!
There needs to be an overhaul to stealth and visibility in the game, recon and snipers need to be able to have a gradual bar or something that fills when they shoot like a detection meter before they're seen when not in a visibility cone, that can degrade over time as well.
Please watch the full video for context. I understand snipers shoot center mass, but stationary targets with heads exposed were psychological kills. Hence why soldiers would put helmets on a stick. It's not just a Hollywood trick. I know I could have talked more about the circumstances, but it matters in this game to determine how effective the snipers are. They need a switch targeting system
i dont know why but ive had the complete opposite experience with snipers in this game i always have them in my army and at least 2 of them with 2,000 hours in the game my snipers have come in clutch on multiple occasions and use them for recon and taking out enemy artillery behind enemy lines and never had an issue with targeting they only issue i ever ran into which seems to have been fixed is the sniper freezing in windows and getting stuck but recently that seems to not be an issue anymore
@@PuggoRebornChannel absolutely! i love your content by the way, keep up the awesome work! Snipers can be lots of fun if you play them right but i can see how the issues you have had can be a real disappointment. I hope you start to have a better experience with them as i have.

That "sniper minigame" is an omage to the Jagged Alliance and other, similar turnbased games to visualize amount of action points spent to increase aiming accuracy. It feels completely wrong for the real time game like CTA Gates of Hell is.

totally nailed it on the weird all knowing AI, it really breaks immersion and fun lmao

No. Snipers dont go for the head. In real life. They always go for the center mass or any part that presents the largest surface area.

m/s means meters per second;
it's what humans use to measure speed.

you need the spotter
They shoild make it so tou have to manually tell your soldier tobreturn fire or artillery strike a sniper to kill it. At least at a certain distance
That would be fun to see playout
