As somebody who is seasoned enough in Gates of Hell I will break a few things down to maybe improve someones gameplay, a lot of things in this video came down to a lack of gamesense: 0:20 - It was already dead, you can notice by it burning, burning vehicles will not take any further damage because they are already considered broken. 1:00 - Guns in manual control will favor the upper half of the reticle when shooting, resulting in more shells going over than under, unless when there is terrain in the way, RNG will gravitate more towards the thing that is closest to the vehicle (crude explanation but good enough) 1:17 - The "up armored" sherman only features an additional armor plate welded onto the right cheek of the turret 2:30 - crew switch is instant, at the point of the kill the crewman was at veteran 6, buffing the reload ability 3:00 - what can I say, bad micro, he inted the 3rd or 4th tank into a spot where he knew a panzer 4 with a high powered gun was literally waiting for vehicles to come and shoot, should have scouted ahead with infantry and drove up there with manual control already enabled, there is only 1 crewmember in the Panzer 4, something that would be very easy to exploit 4:49 - open side, not immediately retreating, not deploying smoke, he basically accepted it at this point, he didn't even try, he might not have gotten out, but every shot you don't take is a miss, he appearantly knew that another HIGH POWERED panzer 4 was coming, so rotate the armor and greet it with an AP shell, open sides like that make me feel uneasy but that may be my reflex talking 5:23 - a pointless waste of resources at that point, a bazooka can one shot a Panzer IV, considering how Bo keeps pushing with his tank without much infantry support it would be pretty easy to pick it out of the fight with a bazooka, it's also way cheaper than an anti tank gun that's not gonna punch through the front of a Panzer 4 anyways 5:57 - you keep shooting until it stops moving (or glowing red on the map) until then you can assume it alive 6:08 - M10 to the side go brrrrr 6:24 - should have switched to AP after the first shot, would have been a guaranteed kill, HE is only good against open tops and VERY lightly armored vehicles, the Sd.Kfz. 231 is not one of either 6:37 - the sherman is too far up front without infantry support, a Panzerschreck is gonna punch right through it and disable it, being this close up front is only good temporarily and should be followed by a quick retreat or infantry pushing up 6:47 - well, be aware of your surroundings, stuff like this can happen but a defense in depth strategy with tanks is not really a good idea, he should have pushed up to regain control 7:14 - it's not, you just need to aim and wait for the reticle to get smaller, you don't need much accuracy with 300mm rockets 7:50 - yes 7:54 - doesn't matter 8:05 - that's where the front and side meet actually, it's an intermediate plate and at that angle I would expect it to bounce, 2nd shot was into the lower side which of course went through and right into the ammo

Choking is not wrong the AI on gates of hell is dogshit compared to MOW2, Ive noticed that the ai for tanks will never notice another tank, and have a really bad target priority. Then also the path finding for them too is really bad for both ai and vehicles. I also noticed for AT guns for some odd reason will move around instead of holding a firing lane (rotate the whole body), which is really frustrating because they love targeting infantry over vehicles
I've pretty much stopped playing the game due to the bad AI. Trying to move an infantry squad out of a mortar barrage, only to have them stop to reload _before_ moving is one of the most frustrating things ever. That, or they'll just randomly stop to shoot something. Or just ignore your commands entirely.
I remember in mowas2 they were pretty reliable against all medium and even some heavy German tanks, once I even knocked out tiger with Sherman in editor
Devs release realistic Sherman, community complains about bias. Not to be a weherhaboo, but the Sherman is famous BECAUSE it was easily replaceable. If anything cost of the Sherman should be brought down, and just deployed in mass. One goes down? So what? We got 100 more where that came from fresh off the production line baby!

The Sherman was supposed to be cheap compared to the German tanks, it was the whole point. It allowed the US to mass-produce them to an absolutely insane extent. They produced 50,000 Shermans in only three years and that's despite the fact that making tanks was really not the US priority given their initial focus on Japan. Meanwhile, the most produced German tank was the Panzer III of which they built 15 000 over 6 years and most of those were already destroyed by the Soviets by the time D-Day happened. A German tank is absolutely supposed to 1vs1 a Sherman. But can they 1vs10 them? Because that's pretty much the odds Germany was actually facing. The Pershing was the American tank meant to be able to 1vs1 German tanks, not the Sherman.

The Sherman was very capable of 1v1 panzer 4s and all lesser tanks as shown throughout the war. The Sherman was mostly superior to the pz4 especially after the 76mm upgrade. Even the big cats were often defeated by the Shermans, there are several battles where Sherman 75s defeated panther counterattacks. This was also in part due to allied superiority in air power and artillery but still. Iirc there was one case where a platoon of 5 Sherman's (which btw is the smallest operational unit of shermans only reason a uni would send less than that is if they had suffered losses) killed several Panthers by just concussion the crew with HE. Iirc without any losses
shermans arent meant for being thrown at tanks, they have tons of infantry killing firepower but weak against armor. just use a 57mm for that f2 and upscale if needed

Love the cope of if the first 75 doesnt work, send 10 more. Its all about range in this game , if they have anything above a german 75, you an American would be wise to get a 76 so you can at minimum have the same range , otherwise german 75 will just base out range you. For maximum cheeze replace your commander with a flamethrower unit , bail him out when your close enough and watch the rage commence

Look the Sherman was one of the tanks of world war 2 and was nicknamed the Tommy cooker for a reason its only saving grace is the fact its easily repairable.
Mid-War era Shermans in Gates of Hell don't have AP shells with explosive filler like they do in Late-War era. I don't know how much the game takes that into account (being inside a tank penetrated by a solid shot is still not fun regardless of if it explodes after, no shit) but it really makes them feel impotent compared to later, especially when the meta thing isn't even to use Pz4F2s, but rather the F1s, because the HEAT shells are both incredibly accurate and effortlessly mince Shermans and T34s both and the firing arc means you can fire from behind cover. Seriously, using those things feels like exploiting.

Oh this game _absolutelty_ has a german bias. And it's not even just in the gameplay. The game has always given me the impression that, even in moments like briefings and cutscenes, the germans are always doing some eroic action, a brilliant defence against the enemy, or a cunning and overwhelming attack, or something like that. While, for the soviet in particular, it's the exact opposite: even when they're winning, it's always implied that they're somewhat desperate, struggling, fighing tooth and nail against the germans. Just look at the art for the game: two wounded german tankers helping each other after their tank (obviously it's a goddamn tiger, because it's always a tiger) has been taken out, whike russian tanks burn behind it. It's so pretentious and obvious.
Or, you're just super sensitive to any mention of the Germans in WW2... It's all 100% in your head. Both sides are portrayed as more aggressive in offensive missions and more desperate in defensive ones. That's just narrative, not bias.

The first mission of the russian campaign is an _actual_ desperate defence where you have to protect a road with like, 2 AT weapons, a bunch of infantry, and after half an hour of continuous tank spamming, you get 2 early-war tanks and an AA gun. The first true german defence mission has you fght with plenty of soldiers, two defensive lines full of 88 guns, each one with multiple ammo boxes around it so you don't even have to worry about ammo for a very long time. German bias in ww2 RTS games is so common, it's actually frustrating

Choking is not wrong the AI on gates of hell is dogshit compared to MOW2, Ive noticed that the ai for tanks will never notice another tank, and have a really bad target priority. Then also the path finding for them too is really bad for both ai and vehicles. I also noticed for AT guns for some odd reason will move around instead of holding a firing lane (rotate the whole body), which is really frustrating because they love targeting infantry over vehicles
I've pretty much stopped playing the game due to the bad AI. Trying to move an infantry squad out of a mortar barrage, only to have them stop to reload _before_ moving is one of the most frustrating things ever. That, or they'll just randomly stop to shoot something. Or just ignore your commands entirely.

The Sherman was supposed to be cheap compared to the German tanks, it was the whole point. It allowed the US to mass-produce them to an absolutely insane extent. They produced 50,000 Shermans in only three years and that's despite the fact that making tanks was really not the US priority given their initial focus on Japan. Meanwhile, the most produced German tank was the Panzer III of which they built 15 000 over 6 years and most of those were already destroyed by the Soviets by the time D-Day happened. A German tank is absolutely supposed to 1vs1 a Sherman. But can they 1vs10 them? Because that's pretty much the odds Germany was actually facing.
The Pershing was the American tank meant to be able to 1vs1 German tanks, not the Sherman.
They produced 40 000, not 50 000 but yeah. Also they only deployed a small fraction of those.

The Sherman was very capable of 1v1 panzer 4s and all lesser tanks as shown throughout the war. The Sherman was mostly superior to the pz4 especially after the 76mm upgrade.
Even the big cats were often defeated by the Shermans, there are several battles where Sherman 75s defeated panther counterattacks. This was also in part due to allied superiority in air power and artillery but still.
Iirc there was one case where a platoon of 5 Sherman's (which btw is the smallest operational unit of shermans only reason a uni would send less than that is if they had suffered losses) killed several Panthers by just concussion the crew with HE. Iirc without any losses

shermans arent meant for being thrown at tanks, they have tons of infantry killing firepower but weak against armor. just use a 57mm for that f2 and upscale if needed

su-122 has a decent armor. i know it from war thunder, as it also came to my surprise how so many of enemy bullets just deflect from this armor.
He was also firing APCR at it's heavily angled side...

Its all about range in this game , if they have anything above a german 75, you an American would be wise to get a 76 so you can at minimum have the same range , otherwise german 75 will just base out range you. For maximum cheeze replace your commander with a flamethrower unit , bail him out when your close enough and watch the rage commence

Look the Sherman was one of the tanks of world war 2 and was nicknamed the Tommy cooker for a reason its only saving grace is the fact its easily repairable.
Mid-War era Shermans in Gates of Hell don't have AP shells with explosive filler like they do in Late-War era. I don't know how much the game takes that into account (being inside a tank penetrated by a solid shot is still not fun regardless of if it explodes after, no shit) but it really makes them feel impotent compared to later, especially when the meta thing isn't even to use Pz4F2s, but rather the F1s, because the HEAT shells are both incredibly accurate and effortlessly mince Shermans and T34s both and the firing arc means you can fire from behind cover. Seriously, using those things feels like exploiting.

Oh this game _absolutelty_ has a german bias. And it's not even just in the gameplay. The game has always given me the impression that, even in moments like briefings and cutscenes, the germans are always doing some eroic action, a brilliant defence against the enemy, or a cunning and overwhelming attack, or something like that. While, for the soviet in particular, it's the exact opposite: even when they're winning, it's always implied that they're somewhat desperate, struggling, fighing tooth and nail against the germans. Just look at the art for the game: two wounded german tankers helping each other after their tank (obviously it's a goddamn tiger, because it's always a tiger) has been taken out, whike russian tanks burn behind it. It's so pretentious and obvious.
Or, you're just super sensitive to any mention of the Germans in WW2...
It's all 100% in your head. Both sides are portrayed as more aggressive in offensive missions and more desperate in defensive ones. That's just narrative, not bias.
@@fsociety6983 dunno man, the "defence" of Berlin is a skirmish where you literally push back the soviets. The first mission of the russian campaign is an _actual_ desperate defence where you have to protect a road with like, 2 AT weapons, a bunch of infantry, and after half an hour of continuous tank spamming, you get 2 early-war tanks and an AA gun.
The first true german defence mission has you fght with plenty of soldiers, two defensive lines full of 88 guns, each one with multiple ammo boxes around it so you don't even have to worry about ammo for a very long time. German bias in ww2 RTS games is so common, it's actually frustrating

It was objectively better in terms of crew survivability and there were much more of them because it was much easier to mass-produce.
The soviets were literally scared of the PaK 40 which could knock out KW-1s, the KwK 40 is the same thing just as a tank gun, a sherman is easy work for a PaK 40
