My dear dad died 3 years ago and until I was 5 we were the best. Then he had a burn out, his brother and sister-in-law died in a car crash when I was 8 and he was never the same again. I am now 49 and it had such in impact on my life. This is so comforting and made me cry. Beautiful. I miss my dad even though I have feared him half my life ...
I gave my grandpa a hug about an hour before he passed. Christmas day after the family party. Every grandchild by blood or heart gave him a hug. I still cherrish that moment... Sadly 2 of his 3 daughters did not have the same luck. my aunt and the last daughter was in a hurry. My mom and other aunt were very dissapointed of course.
Came here for same reason. They juxtapose a big historic event with something very intimate like sisterly love / friendship, and contrast royal life with something very relatable like ageing and death. Such a beautiful episode, one of the best in the series imo, and a beautiful ending.
I think Margaret was a tortured but beautiful soul...all she wanted was to just be herself....as for Vanessa Kirby, wow.....this was the most tender and touching scene in the whole series.
I like this scene but my favourite is when the king dies, I didn’t want him to die but it’s just the bit when the royal standard is lowered I get goosebumps. And the crown must win letter from Queen Mary got me too.
Yes!!Vanessa Kirby was wonderful as Margaret. And I also loved the king singing “In The Bleak Mid-Winter” with the Christmas Carol singers. I cry every time!!
She was also raised to honour duty above all. She had a kingdom to stabilize and remember she was so young and the ones who influenced her decisions the most were those who would rather she not get so emotional
Same! People in the replies saying “well, she had the weight of a nation on her and she was all duty” but dude, Bertie was literally also the monarch?? And had to see the country through WWII but managed to seem like a great dad. So...??
@@strawberriesandcandy when Bertie took the throne, Elizabeth was 10; when she did, her kids were toddlers. Not to mention her dad was the king, mom, although now the queen consort, was still able to be a mom and gave her hubby the space to relax with his family. In her case, mommy was the one being a monarch, in a time when daddies were not the ones in charge of raising the kids, and Phillip was not necessarily pampering father material to begin with.
He was looking to her to give him the confidence to sing. Once he hit his stride, she reminded him to turn around and face the crowd. She gave him the confidence and strength to face the masses.
After George VI's death, Margaret's life went downhill, easily. George was the only one who she truly loved and George was the only one who could tame her.
🐄 💩. Princess Margaret was wild when King George VI was alive. She slept with one of his staff (a huge scandal in the period) and other stuff. She was spoilt and wild. Only illness and later death slowed her down.
I came back to this scene after watching Season 6 and started crying!!! I recognized the voice of Venessa Kirby and it was so sad. All those memories of growing up watching the Crown coming to an end. The end of a beautiful Era and now with the Queen gone, it's like we all went through this journey together. I knew they would have to throw in Venessa in there somewhere and the ending was perfect. Ive always loved Princess Margaret. She was my favorite!!!😭😭👑
I wish they kept the scene where he's watching Elizabeth on TV. It's such a moving scene to see him in tears and to hear the sound of bagpipes in the distance as it moves on to the morning of his death. Great use of foreshadow.
Also, I think that in that moment, he’s so proud of her, and maybe he’s remembering the day of her birth, when he first held her in his arms, just a tiny little baby girl...and now his baby girl is becoming a woman all in front of his eyes. Time flies by when you are a parent, even if you are a royal...he died with his love for his kids remaining intact.
Agreed. I wish they would have kept the season 1&2 cast & just used prosthetics & stuff to age them all. I couldn’t get used to the cast change after s2.
Absolutely. Olivia Colman and HBC are great, but Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby brought something very unique to their roles, something none of the others can quite replicate
Watching the season again and this whole episode is breathtaking and done so well. When they wake up to find him passed away - Margaret standing amidst this flurry of movement and you can see the moment of her realization - great storytelling
I strongly identify with Margaret here. I was also 21 when my dad died. And this series came along shortly after, at just the right time to help me process. This scene is so lovely and really shows the bond between father and daughter ❤️❤️
This song -- as they sing it -- has been in my head for days as I began the series all over again. I do love this actor, loved him in Mad Men too. I just looked him up in IMDB and learned he's the son of the famous actor Richard Harris. interesting!
this was the scene that completely broke my heart and enthranced me to The Crown. to this day i still cry like a baby when i watch this. it just resonates so depply within me, i feel every drop of love between them.
Brilliant acting from Vanessa Kirby showing her emotion at seeing her father perform in-front of others, knowing how painfully inhibited he was. Poor man it was awful for his personality to have that responsibility of being King suddenly thrust upon him.
Quelle scène magnifique, la douceur et la classe du temps passé, Vanessa Kirby et Jared Harris jouent à la perfection et je suis 😍 de Vanessa, comme tout le monde je crois.
There is an alternate lyric which goes "Couldn't sleep, wouldn't sleep / Until I could sleep where I shouldn't sleep". I wonder if the producers considered it, for Margaret. ( : I think Lorenz Hart wrote both versions? This song was also used to stunning effect in The History Boys.
What's great about this: 1. The TV viewers don't know the context at first. It's just her and him singing, it's intimate and about them and their appreciation/caring. Then, when she points out to him the larger audience, she's pointing it out to us too. And he is surprised himself by their presence, as was I. He is bewildered and loving his daughter. She sees his love, appreciation, and frailty. She takes it all in, happiness and in the moment and then sad. 2. It captures the main theme of joys of family intimacy/communication and their giant lack of privacy. They live their lives in public. 3. His sadness, confusion and awkwardness (holding the music sheet between his hands) communicates that burden; he was happiest when he had forgotten the audience and was simply singing and laughing with his funny, vibrant charming daughter. 4. These issues are highlighted by the direction, which has shots moving from intimate to contextual and back. 5. The actors convey so much nuance. 6. The music/lyrics fit so well.
Who’s here after Margarets episode…😭
Me😭😭😭😭😭
Me 😢
😢😢😢 Je n’ai pas pleuré comme ça depuis longtemps. Deux scènes celle du discours de la Reine pendant l’anniversaire et la scène finale sublime.
Me 😔
Me😭
It was so nice to hear this song once again in the end credits of season 6 episode 8.
It's so painful and fitting at the same time. They are finally together all "us four".
So beautiful!
That brought me here too!
This makes me cry a lot I remember when the real Princess Margaret had passed when I was 6 years old
When she was cremated, she asked to be scattered with her father.
Vanessa Kirby played Margaret beautifully.
Freya McCullough definitely
oh my heart breaks... can you imagine singing with your dad for one of the last times?
Siri Hammond breaks my heart
These first two episodes break my heart in half.King George is just the sweeteat old man ever in this.
No never

A beautiful scene of the king's last moments with his daughter
I cried so hard.
Richard Lew I just want to watch Jared Harris role the KING🥺🥺😫😫.
He completely forgot everyone else was there. Amazing scene.
Elizabeth was his pride BUT Margaret was his joy
❤️❤️❤️ so true
I look at this scene and the one in his study with Elizabeth. I think that shows the statement off well.
So basically Elizabeth is Elsa and Margaret is Anna???
BUT in spite of that Elizabeth loved Margaret dearly.
Same. For the queen today. Charles is her prdie and Ann is her joy
Came here after I saw the Ritz episode from the season 6. That song played during credits...that was so beautiful and meaningful...
Came here for same reason. They juxtapose a big historic event with something very intimate like sisterly love / friendship, and contrast royal life with something very relatable like ageing and death. Such a beautiful episode, one of the best in the series imo, and a beautiful ending.

Great thumbnail! I loved "Joker"!
She had no purpose in life. No real education, no real job. She was floating without aim.
"I agree."
This has got to be my favourite scene in the crown
Mine too definitely. Something about the reception he got at the end of the song really shows how much the people loved their shy, humble king.
Tanya Hikins mines too
me too, I love Margaret's sadness, fealty and recognition
I like this scene but my favourite is when the king dies, I didn’t want him to die but it’s just the bit when the royal standard is lowered I get goosebumps. And the crown must win letter from Queen Mary got me too.
Yes!!Vanessa Kirby was wonderful as Margaret. And I also loved the king singing “In The Bleak Mid-Winter” with the Christmas Carol singers. I cry every time!!
This duet gutted me when they played it during the end credits of the Margaret episode on the final season. I bawled. Back together in heaven. 😭
I never understood how Elizabeth could be so distant with her children after being raised by such a warm and loving man like Bertie.
She had a kingdom to take care of. They said she was the typical 1950s mom till her father died and she took the throne.
She was also partly raised and influenced by her grandmother Queen Mary of Teck
She was also raised to honour duty above all. She had a kingdom to stabilize and remember she was so young and the ones who influenced her decisions the most were those who would rather she not get so emotional

Even the staff applauded. This man was so beloved. He was truly born to be King.
But he wasn't.
@@Roddie62 but he was, but no one knew it at the time.
I watch this clip again after seeing the ending of S6E8. Very emotional.
He was looking to her to give him the confidence to sing. Once he hit his stride, she reminded him to turn around and face the crowd. She gave him the confidence and strength to face the masses.
She pointed to her lover.
King George VI looked around to see who he needed to have executed!
@@keldonmcfarland2969😂🤣
I wish if Vanessa made a full cover that song..That arrangement is so beautiful and she sings well..
Any girl or woman who adores their dad will tear up at this scene. They've always been our Kings.
Well said! ❤🥰 They have indeed
Jared Harris is the man. Such marvelous acting in only two episodes. Vanessa is also superb, great talent.
Wish we had Jared Harris for more than 6 episodes , what a masterclass he put on
I watched this scene and just sobbed. Such a touching moment between a dad and his daughter.
Yeah. It’s so sweet! Even as a parent, when your kids are grown, they’ll still be your babies.
Me too...
vanessa is so gorgeous
YES!

🐄 💩. Princess Margaret was wild when King George VI was alive. She slept with one of his staff (a huge scandal in the period) and other stuff. She was spoilt and wild. Only illness and later death slowed her down.
Lol he never tamed her . She was spoiled as hell and out of control
I think it was when she couldn’t marry the man she loved

I mean, they kept the scene in the series
Albert/George absolutely ADORED his daughters. Such a sweet man.
1:15 The camera work was fantastic at showing the love between father and daughter. She had to remind her father of the other people in the room.
The actresses that played Elizabeth and Margaret in season 1+2 were on another level😩😻😻😻

Should be on Spotify! Her voice is beautiful
The first time you watch this scene, you cry.
From the second viewing on, you bawl and whimper. It's beautiful. Well done.

came with tears after s6e08
I started crying when the older version of Margret switched out the younger this song made me burst into tears
*Watching this again after finishing S6: E8*
One of my absolute favourite scenes from the crown, simple, delicate, classy and meaningful❤
I strongly identify with Margaret here. I was also 21 when my dad died. And this series came along shortly after, at just the right time to help me process. This scene is so lovely and really shows the bond between father and daughter ❤️❤️
I was 21 when I lost my father too - it was in 1996 but this scene still wrecks me - in a good way.
Me too. I lost my father when I was 24. In very traumatic circumstances and when I see this I miss him so damn much.
I watch this again and again and again and again. Something about this song and this scene is touching and calming.
Absolutely
I came back to this after watching Season 6 Episode 8...😭
Love Margaret's dress 😍
The dresses she wears in this series are gorgeous!
All her clothes are so gorgeous. I love the outfits where she wore pants and not dresses as well. "Real" Margaret really had a sense of style too.
Every generation has that one royal lady that is a fashionista 😊 Margret then Diana then Kate and maybe Megan
I don't love them because she shouldn't have worn one
Jared Harris is brilliant
here after season 6🥲
He plays Bertie perfectly tbh
They need to record the whole song and publish it...
Ella Fitzgerald is my favorite rendition after this scene.
Agree
Yasssshhh
@@andreforward9762 Ella is just another level.
After Margaret’s death in the crown this hits different 😭
Man this man is such a good singer. What a voice.
Quite a few people who knew Princess Margaret have said that the true love of her life was always her Father,
She adored him🥺❤️.
This is such a beautiful scene. Just moments of calm before the storm.
This scene is easily one of the best in all four seasons of The Crown.
Beautifully acted by both
One of the many great father and daughter moments from the Crown. Can't wait for Dec 8!!
Jared Harris is amazing.
This song -- as they sing it -- has been in my head for days as I began the series all over again. I do love this actor, loved him in Mad Men too. I just looked him up in IMDB and learned he's the son of the famous actor Richard Harris. interesting!

Amazing! I watched The Crown. I was truly Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. What a beautiful, beautiful song. The series did justice to the song.
This is the most sweetest last moment Margaret has with her father.
Celia Booth
Something I want but will never get is a spin-off series depicting George VI’s life with Jared Harris
this was the scene that completely broke my heart and enthranced me to The Crown. to this day i still cry like a baby when i watch this. it just resonates so depply within me, i feel every drop of love between them.
Gentleness and softness in Vanessa Kirby face. ❤
Since I watched this series over and over again, I know what happens next, and lost my dad almost a year ago, this scene makes me cry like a baby
I need a full version of it, the way Vanessa sings is so beautiful
I really really love this scene so much! That moment was so beautiful that I cried a little
Such a good man was the king George.
King George was the best papa 🥺
I miss the original cast sooooooooo much :(
Absolutely one of my all time favorite scenes ever❤
This is one of the most beautiful scenes in the series so far!!
Coming here right after episode 8 🥲😭
Margaret: turn around
Bertie: oh, hi, where'd you all come from?
What struck me is how Jared's singing voice sounds a lot like his father in Camelot. Beautiful ❤️
Just finished the last season of The Crown yesterday and this remains my favorite scene in the whole series.
Now watch the final season. Episode 8
I adore Jared Harris.
Honestly, I was so excited when I heard that they started singing a very familiar jazz classic that I almost instantly recognized from their singing.
One of the most touching scenes of this wonderful series...
@0:14 The King is just like any other father, giving safety advice to his daughter at the wheel.
I sobbed as this song reminds me my mother who died when I was 18 yrs old.
Brilliant acting from Vanessa Kirby showing her emotion at seeing her father perform in-front of others, knowing how painfully inhibited he was. Poor man it was awful for his personality to have that responsibility of being King suddenly thrust upon him.
This scene has an extra layer of meaning if you watched The King’s Speech first.
Brilliant film😌❤️.

Who is here after 6x08 😭😭😭😭
I cried watching this scene, it really captivated my heart. One of the best scenes ever.
watched the king's speech and now this. oh Bertie
One of my favourite Crown moments. ❤️
I wish the soundtrack featured the full song with her singing!
These two are just so talented.
By far my favorite scene of the Crown. The warmness of this moment is so comforting. This is how I want to spend my last day on Earth.
This scene touches my soul. I lost my father at 54 in 2017. I wish I could hug him again
Fave scene always makes me cry😢
What a brilliant cast!
I shed tears on this scene
Vanessa Kirby, the goddess.
God, I love this scene! Keep coming back to it
This is something I will do with my family. I want this in my life.
