I've only just seen this video while looking for a David Thorpe video. I still refer to his videos and bought his book on the G9. He made excellent videos.
Thanks for letting me know about David Thorpe passing away. My first real digital was an Olympus Pen epl1. I discovered him by accident here at RUclips. He sounded like Michael Caine to me. I watched him quite a bit. The one positive and helpful thing I got from him is his recommendation for the camera bag I have owned since about 2015. It’s like a backpack with one sling, made by LowePro. I’ve had nice bags before but this one remains quite convenient! I always enjoyed his episodes and what he said was also my philosophy. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. Take care my friend.
David was full of wit and photographic wisdom. He's part of the reason I got into MFT, and the E-M10 MkII in particular. He made a raft of marvellous content, and RUclips, and the MFT community will be much poorer without him. RIP David.
David was one of the reasons I got in to this format he had faith in it ,there's a lot of negativity towards the system on RUclips so thank you David rest in peace my friend
Sad news for the day, however he is still photographing and explaining photography to the Angels. I will watch ALL his videos today as a tribute to David.
Such sad news and a great loss to the photographic community. He was so generous with his time, reviews and advice. R.I.P., David. Sincere condolences to his family and close friends.
David was a great advocate for the gear and the format. He'd answer tech questions on old posts, unlike reviewers who move on from their own stink. Hard to think David's unmistakable voice, wry observations and quirky stop motion will not be heard on the latest m43 release.
Beat the drum slowly and play the pipe lowly as we morn the passing of David Thorpe. He was an inspiration to photographers everywhere, especially those MFT followers. A sad loss indeed.
I fully endorse your sentiments and thank you for making this tribute. I should like to add my condolences to yours and so many of both your and Davids's followers. He was a wonderful presence on RUclips and will be greatly missed.
David Thorpe inspired us all with his steadfast integrity, unabashed wit, wealth of knowledge, life time experience, infinite enthusiasm, unassuming talent, a desire to share, to give selflessly. We all owed David the highest standards of excellence that he had exampled & lived before us. His legacy shall live on. ✌🏼& 📸
I never met David either, but for me the experience of watching one of his videos was, without fail, one of having an old friend come over to visit and chat about photography and life. I will miss him. God be with you, David.
Such sad news to learn that David Thorpe has died. He always answered any queries I had about his videos, even the one when he got an electric Brompton. A real gentleman indeed!
Oh...so sad to hear this 😢 Most of my lenses I bought after looking his recensions and meanings about his tested gears. He was a great an objective reviewer. THX for your info and unknown my condolences to his loved ones. A faithful follower from Austria.
Hi Brian.. I was literally on my way home from a 300 mile round trip... Picking up my new gently used Olympus OMD em1 Mark II. There is a very scenic little spot that I had stopped at to stretch for a minute and to take a few shots. I just got back in the car when your announcement came through... I'm just realizing that I wouldn't have been making that trip today had not been for David Thorpe's enlightening and entertaining channel.. and a few generous replies that he made to me through his blog posts.. feeling the loss, yes.. but mostly gratitude and inspiration..
Thanks for that Brian. I couldn't have put it any better than yourself and some of your other subscribers. Lemmy was one of the main influencers in me moving from the Canon full frame over to M43.
As you said, it felt like I knew him. We only had a few brief exchanges on his RUclips channel. He will be dearly missed, but I will of course revisit his absolutely fabulous videos. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Thanks for keeping us informed. Very sad to hear of his passing, I followed him on a regular basis. He always gave straight opinions on equipment and great advice and help. He will be sorely missed in the MFT community and the followers he had built up over the years. My thoughts are with his family.
One of the big reasons i got into M43 was because of a video he did shooting a camera in a holiday typesetting and showing its small size and big quality. but i think it was his delivery of the message which had the real effect
@@ThatMicro43Guy He did a review on the Panasonic LUMIX 35-100.f4 -f5,6....which prompted me to buy one ...so lightweight and compact and super sharp , brilliant for travel. I wouldn’t have known of this lens without having seen his review. I am sure I am not alone in appreciating his equipment reviews.
Thank you for this. His last video hinted as much and it's so good you have posted. David Thorpe was always a must view and his reviews were the ones I trusted and made final decisions on. His dry humour with tantalizing glimpses of his photography background along with some very useful insights - meter reading and using very high iso's were but two. May he rest in peace and all the best for his family and friends.
A sad day.
Indeed. When I heard David's last message, my blood froze.
I miss David's videos...a great photographer and teacher!!!
God bless...may he rest in peace!

His camera and lens reviews were a work of art in themselves, a sad loss.

I never met David but did correspond briefly by email. I feel I've lost a good fiend.
