    I would rather have better low light than more pixels - no need for any more than 20. Great to see them investing in M43 and hopefully there will be a G10 in the pipeline somewhere. Excited to see what the FW update does for the autofocus too. I didnt have problems with it in most cases but for birds and wildlife it would be great to get a better hit rate with fewer shots not quite sharp.

    I wish Panasonic automatically turned off DFD when video recording instead of continually adjusting the logarithms to try and improve focus. Panasonic processor in G9 is very capable of keeping good focus in video without DFD.

    I am excited about the update for the G9. I use the G9 mostly for wildlife with the Pl 100-400 lens. I have just been using animal detect autofocus for a month or so and have found it to be really good at times. I also own a Canon R6 which I use with an adapted Sigma 150-600mm lens. I get tired of dragging that combination around on longer hikes. Image quality is better in good light with the G9 and PL lens than the Canon and the Sigma. The issue is AF for birds in flight. The G9 is okay but the R6 is stellar. If they can make the G9 AF react a bit faster maybe I can give up on the larger stuff. The R6 is still better as the light begins to fade but I can deal with that better than not focusing.

    The link for Lumix firmware updates, do read and follow instructions - av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/
    Likewise the link for Olympus OM-D here - cs.olympus-imaging.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/software/firm/e1/index.cfm#sigma_l
    NB - However the Olympus Camera Updater app checks online for latest version and connects by USB: easy automated process. The link above is really only needed to update Panasonic lenses on an Olympus back,
    Tip: if an opposite brand lens is misbehaving (esp Panasonic on Olympus back) then update that lens on that back. This seems to put the lens, or maybe reinsert it, correctly in the look-up table. Olympus Updater used to get snotty about not running the same firmware update twice but is perhaps more sensible now.

    I have two Panasonic's as well as a Lumix bridge FZ82, but I prefer a recent, if older acquisition. Having watched your videos, I gave an omd-em1 a punt. I must say, I prefer it to anything else I own. It's a little beauty! I'm going to sell off my Canon stuff, get a few pro lenses and stick with it. IBIS is incredible. Their support for older kit is commendable.

    Great video, as always. Thanks for this. I've just updated my pair of GX80s as a result. Incidentally, although the website says to format the card on the camera to be updated, I thought I'd be lazy and see what happens if I used the same card in each. The update worked perfectly on both bodies, so the firmware would seem to be 'model specific' rather than 'body specific'. I haven't done the lenses yet, because I'm waiting for a couple of new (to me!) Leica variants to arrive from MPB 🙂

      Very true..... These people have no understanding of the everyday human being. After a year of searching my first system I decided to go with Sony FF but deep down I wanted the Olympus EM1 mkiii with the 12-100 f4. I’m now considering swapping the Sony for the Olympus after seeing the Olympus raw files. There’s no difference in every day to day quality

    I am super happy/curious about the 1-area af human recognition option. This could become my favorite bit of the firmware update. Usually I use 1-area AF but for portraits I always had to switch to full area AF. If the camera will be able to detect (and focus) humans even in 1-area AF there is no need anymore to switch between AF modes. Not sure how good this will work though but if it does I surely will love it.
    Sadly still waiting for the "live composite" feature of the G90/G91 and the Olympus bodys to arrive at the G9 via firmware update ...

      As I've said on a posting tonight, each to their own needs. M43 suits me but I'm a realist and know that it doesn't fit everyone's needs. Best of luck with whatever format you settle on. I'm sure it will be good.

    Can I update the firmware of an Olympus lens if I only have a Panasonic camera?

    • @ThatMicro43Guy
      @ThatMicro43Guy  3 года назад

      I’ve looked around the internet and it appears that there is a method available on the Olympus Japan web site. However, there also seems to be a lot of comments saying the safest way is to go to your local dealer or a friend with an Olympus MFT camera and get them to do it for you. The same advice seems to be the way for lumix lenses on Olympus bodies.
      Either way, I would initially suggest contacting a dealer as they will almost certainly know of a way and if not they can directly ask the manufacturers tech dept.

    • @ThatMicro43Guy
      @ThatMicro43Guy  3 года назад

      I really cannot comment as I’ve never used the G80. I can say that the G9 really is an awesome piece of kit and I love it especially for video. To be honest there are not many (if any) bad cameras on the market. It’s more to do with how the camera feels in the had which matters to me. So if you are comfortable with the G80 handling wise then the G9 should be a great logical improvement.
