  • This is no ordinary pizzeria. At Rosa’s, customers can do something very unique: pay forward slices of $1 pizza for those in need with Post-It Notes. The customers show compassion toward the people in their community by buying a slice in advance that a homeless person can redeem later on.

    People are saying that enabling these people to just walk in and get a free pizza won't help them get off the street. I think the purpose of putting in the section where the owner says one of the homeless people he served is now off the streets and working with a stable income is to show viewers that they're not doing it for nothing; they're providing for people so that they have enough energy to get through the day and find a new job.

      Metta Ksanti Indeed, obviously no one wants to be homeless and it's easier said than done, to say well just go and get a job!? Hopefully this system works out for the better!

    • @thomasrainbow
      @thomasrainbow 8 лет назад +2

      +Metta Ksanti I used to think this way too.. That giving change and helping homeless people on the street is "enabling" them.. Sure, maybe sometimes that's what happens but who are you to judge? You should help people without judgment because you can and because you are nice. Just one small act like talking to a homeless person like a real person and giving them some food can go a long way.

    • @jamesclarke2789
      @jamesclarke2789 2 года назад

      @@Jack-xy4fy Regular Darwinism is scientific. Social Darwinism is a floppy pseudo-science advocated by nutjobs who:
      1) are illiterate on actual evolutionary biology and sociobiology
      2) are completely unaware of the criticisms of social Darwinism by actual evolutionary biologists
      3) think that for some arbitrary reason, they, the nutjobs, are the ones who have the physiological and cognitive capacities to decide what traits are good, what traits are bad, and who gets to be euthanized or sterilized(except of course, never them, the nutjobs), in essence being a bunch of closeted wannabe racial authoritarians.
      4)have gotten so sucked up in Spencer's long ago crippled ideology that they are unable to recognize that 'the fittest' refers to in Darwinian theory as 'the species who is most adaptable to a given uncontrolled external ecosystem over long evolutionary periods', not 'the species who is capable of exhibiting the most strength, power and ability to compete within a short timespan of a hundred years, disembodied of any uncontrolled external ecosystem'.
      Adaptability does not necessarily mean strength through competition. It sometimes does, but sometimes it doesn't mean that at all.
      Kropotkin more than a hundred years ago showed how limited the Social Darwinist dogma was when he pointed out that evolutionary fitness as adaptability doesn't just come through competitive behavior but also often occurs through cooperative behavior between organisms. Later research in areas such as reciprocal altruism proved his point all too well.
      Point being, complex physical, behavioral and cognitive traits that a Social Darwinist would view as weak may actually be fundamental assets to humanity's evolutionary fitness.
      5)Have tricked themselves into thinking that Social Darwinism is 'natural' because Darwin's name has been glued to it. But Social Darwinism advocates planned and widespread genetic regulation over a large body of humans within a short time period with large intended impacts in this short time, and inevitably within a external ecosystem that humans have been able to control and already regulate.
      That runs contrary to actual Evolution where processes aren't planned, happen over long period of times, impacts are small and piecemeal, and inevitably reflect a changing external ecosystem which the Individual species can't control.
      Just because it has the word Darwinism in its name, it does not mean that Social Darwinism is 'Natural', or even 'Evolutionary'. It isn't
      6)think that they, the nutjobs who are to be in charge of planning and driving forward these widespread population genetic regulations, will somehow be in a position to ensure that every genetic regulation they decide upon won't have unintended side effects that they failed to plan for, either in the short term future or many years into the future including possibly well after these nutjob's deaths. And these nutjobs won't be able to tell if these unintended side effects will actually end up harming humanity, which would be the exact opposite of what they intended.
      These nutjobs can't predict how one regulated trait will interact with other traits, They can't predict what external environments and ecosystems these regulated traits may have to function within far into the future. There's too many things they can't predict, can't plan for. They'll end up damaging, if not destroying, humanity with all these unintended side effects that they can't plan for, not strengthen and improving it.
      Actual evolutionary processes, with their gradual piecemeal adaptions which aren't planned, and instead happen as physiological or behavioral adaptions to a given ecosystem in a specific moment in time, don't get nearly as impacted by this risk of unintended side effects that Social Darwinism would suffer from. Social Darwinists haven't caught onto that yet.
      If you aren't being sarcastic, and actually think Social Darwinism is good, and think people like the Nazis and the Apartheid enforcing Afrikaner are good, then I genuinely hope someone brings you help before you grow a handlebar moustache.

      Some people need help on occasion, an open system like this helps out by the society itself being a fallback for those moments. Also, people who go from rags to riches through hard work, lot of times remember their tough times and help back.. so..relax and tell those bread-bag wearing politicians that they should never have collected subsidies and welfares back in the past when they needed it.
