Corporate bean counters push these companies to cheap out on every little detail to max out profit while keeping production costs low. Everything that goes on some of these cars are about the lowest possible bid from around the world. No pride from companies (like Ford) to be able to claim their vehicles will last for 150+ k miles. None of them really make that claim but it would be refreshing to have one do it.

It’s true, for a long-long time they have been going down hill. It’s also a shame, because many years ago (like 20) they were quality vehicles. I have a Ford (hybrid) that is 10 years old and 85,000 miles. Maybe I am lucky, but it is running excellent, the battery shows 94% efficiency and I am getting 45MPG. More and more I think I am the lucky exception rather then the rule. If it lasts another 15,000 miles I will be content, but they should last 150,000 miles or more without any issues. I hope Ford turns it around with their quality, time will tell.

The one I've got now is the all-wheel drive with towing package got almost 30,000 mi on it with no problems I will say it definitely does search for gears too many options with the 10 speed I think. Was thinking about maybe going with the Ridgeline because of the wider bed made it a little difficult to put a full pallet of wood in the back with a forklift. Because the pallet sits on the wheel wells. Doesn't every company have lemons though??

I worked on a military installation. One morning 2 GI's were so close to me that I could see their faces and no headlights. A skunk popped up and my 80 Malibu clunked it twice. The poor skunk flipped up on the windshield and finally slid off. They passed me with the widows down and both heads were out of the windows. Carma.... I still laugh. 40mph was the speed limit. OOPS!

Some German companies but largely missing elsewhere. What it means is you check the parts before you put them in and you spot check your final product - even tearing it apart weld by weld - to make sure they are built properly.

But for some strange reason, the Japanese brand started catching on in the 70s due to the fuel crisis, and the public caught onto them because they were durable and great value for the money, and they slowly eclipsed everything built the World over.
It’s not that Americans and Europeans can’t build a Toyota. It’s they don’t care to.

I got one the moment they came out- but I got the AWD with tow package. So far, so good. There have been a few recalls but none of them significant. ( a break controller reprogram, a replaced side curtain airbag etc ) I don’t know how long it will last. Probably not as long as my old 2004 Tacoma- but then, modern Toyotas are not lasting as long as the 04’s either. I don’t put a lot of miles on it. But frankly, when I bought it, even New it was cheaper than USED Tacomas with 80k on the clock. And it was the smaller size I preferred.
