the "brooklyn broke" line has a lot of layers to it, and is one of the most impressive in the song once you unpack it all! as a slang term, "brooklyn broke" refers to a couple of different things - having money but presenting yourself as having humble means, or actually being broke but it being largely because you reside in brooklyn (so if you lived elsewhere, you'd be well off). the phrase makes me think of two things from pop culture - a song by gym class heroes which says "i was brooklyn broke, now i'm upstate rich"; and the character dan humphrey from gossip girl, who is considered the "poor" kid in the show, but lives in a lovely expensive loft in brooklyn. in taylor's case she is referring to her ex who famously lives in brooklyn, where rent is cheaper, despite the fact that he could easily afford to live in manhattan - and who likes to appear as a very down-to-earth guy despite still living in luxury. this can also be connected to other songs on the album, including "i bet you think about me" which is a very tongue-in-cheek song about the same ex who apparently looked down on her and her 'lesser' city (which, at the time, was nashville) and that also connects it back to the lyric about him skipping her 21st birthday party, which was held in nashville (so he only wanted to spend time with her in His city, not her own). but spending time with him in his city broke her. after red, she released 1989 and in the prologue to that album she said "from the girl who said she would never cut her hair or move to new york" which may have, at least in part, been caused by the fact that a couple of years earlier, she had her heart broken by this ex who lived in new york - but then she moved past that, and moved there anyways. so that line holds a lot - the wordplay with "brooklyn broke" as a slang term, the specification that it's His city ("your brooklyn") as opposed to her city, the overall meaning that he broke her, references to other song lyrics from the same album ("all we are is skin and bone trained to get along" is a line in the song treacherous vs. "your brooklyn broke my skin and bone") the rest of that last verse is just as interesting. "did the twin flame bruise paint you blue" references twin flames, which you picked up on, but also the fact that they were both fire signs which she writes about in state of grace ("twin fire signs, four blue eyes") as well as the color theme of the entire red album (the song red also says "losing him was blue like i've never known"); "in this city's barren cold i still remember the first fall of snow" could either refer to the beginning of their relationship in october 2010, which is when the first snow fell in new york city, or to him skipping her birthday party and their relationship started falling apart, as the first snow in nashville was the day before taylor's 21st birthday. honestly lots of fun details to dig into from a writing perspective, and a key example of why taylor is a master of her craft.

I also love that in "the first fall of snow", 'fall' (a homonym of the season 'fall') is so close to 'snow' (typically associated with winter), which indicates the changing of the season (emphasized by the FIRST fall of snow). In the ATW10 mv, this is strengthened even more by how the warm, orange, fall tones used to represent the more happy side (more her colour and beginning) of the relationship are contrasted with the cooler blue tones, which fit the cold winter better (more his colour, and end of relationship). Weather does not change instantly from fall into winter, but it goes back and forth a little, until finally the new season fully takes over. I love how it all fits together so well ❤
The little girl she gave the 22 hat to is Kobe Bryant’s daughter 🥹 Kobe gave Taylor her banner at Staples Center for having the most sold out concerts there & Taylor brought him out on stage during the 1989 tour & they were friends for years so she invited Vanessa and the girls to the VIP tent 🥺
Also, since you were talking about it, her albums in release order would be like this: - Taylor Swift (2006) [Debut]: Country - Fearless (2008): Country pop - Speak Now (2010): Country pop and pop rock - Red (2012): Pop, country and rock - 1989 (2014): Synth-pop - reputation (2017): Electropop and R&B - Lover (2019): Electropop, pop rock and synth-pop - folklore (2020): Indie folk, alternative rock, electro-folk, chamber pop and indietronica - evermore (2020): Alternative rock, chamber rock, folk-pop and indie folk - Midnights (2022): Synth-pop, electropop, dream pop and bedroom pop I got the genres from their respective Wikipedia articles, cause I'm really bad with music genres XD
Audrey all Taylor's albums are popular 😭 I would have said by 2019 - 2020 that her least popular were Fearless and Debut, only because she wasn't a global superstar when they released, but since the rerecordings have dropped Fearless and soon Debut will have reached new highs in terms of recognition and popularity. But Debut and Fearless were heavily country sounds, Speak Now still had some country roots, was definitely not a full pop album, and Red was her first proper transition-to-pop album. It was HUGE at the time.
I think what she means is to non-fans/casual listeners. I know a few people who saw the film who don't listen to Taylor but know radio singles and they said they loved Fearless, Red and 1989 because they knew all the songs. In a way, that's what makes those albums popular. Obviously fans and swifties know all her albums are popular but I think she was referring to the "outsiders"
@@bammmitsrachel I was referring to non-fans when I said Red was her first non country album and it was huge because of it. That's when a lot of non-swifties started listening to her, because she was no longer pigeon-holed in country music. And she started getting a lot more radio time with this album and all consecutive ones. This was her first AOTY Grammy win if I'm not mistaken, it was much bigger than her older albums.
Fearless was huge it’s her 2nd or 3rd best selling album and put her into mainstream country and pop radio as well. Winning the highest honor at the Grammy awards. I would say it’s debut and speak now
@@Slaylorswift13 I think perspective is so interesting! A lot more of my peers were listening to Speak Now than Fearless and Debut because Speak now involved 3 massively famous exes (Lautner, Mayer, Jonas) and they were a lot more curious about that tea than anything on the first 2. It's also interesting to think about whether the transition from physical music to virtual music had any impact on the total album sales for Fearless vs her later albums. Because honestly her later albums are crazy popular and most of them broke some records or the other, but idk about album sales because that's not really like a huge measure of success anymore since streaming and downloading and other forms of obtaining music are so prominent. In fact I think Red was the last physical Taylor album I bought!
When I went to the tour I didn't know the setlist ahead of time, and "All Too Well" is my favorite song, so I absolutely lost my mind when she said "I have one more song I wanted to play, if you happen to have about...10 minutes." 😭
8:30 she sang an epic version of I Knew You Were Trouble and a rock version of We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together on the 1989 tour which you reacted to
I read that Brooklyn Broke is a style that describes someone with a ton of money who dresses like they don’t - like they’re just a regular dude from Brooklyn. I think it was a rapper who reacted to this that said he was familiar with the term. Great reaction!
I wore a shirt that said “f*ck the patriarchy” when I went to the Eras Tour in Philly, and it was such an amazing moment when the whole stadium sang that lyric with their whole chest and soul lol.
So regarding her shirt 3:10 In a interview she said There’s NOT a lot going on at the moment and then she drops Evermore & Folkmore I believe. 😂 like girl you were planning two albums to drop.
Red is my favorite Taylor Album! All Too Well has a line in the extended version "but then he (Taylor's dad) watched me watch the front door all night willing you to come, and he said it's supposed to be fun turning 21" After that is The Moment I Knew, about her BF missing her birthday, so 22 was her redemption, because turning 21 is a big milestone that was overshadowed by the toxic relationship. So 22 was born and became the iconic queen she is today!
Red is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Released originally in 2012 Red tells the story of a breakup the ups and downs The colors of a relationship Moving on or feeling like staying Partying on your 22nd birthday mourning the death of a child Red is truly a great evolution from Country to Pop! Red songs in the eras tour are 22 We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (which is the lead single of Red) I Knew You Were Trouble and All Too Well (10 Minute Version) which is a fan favorite Please check out Red (Taylor's Version) fully you NEVER know what to expect with the track order ❤ (please wear a scarf)

You are going to actually die seeing folklore live... it's, in my opinion, the best era at the eras tour because of the beautiful set, multiple note changes, and the way she performs the sad songs with so much emotion and passion. Can't wait til Friday!
Red was the first album of hers that I was waiting for to come out. I discovered Fearless just before Speak Now came out, so I wasn't super into waiting for something to come out. But Red came out during high school and my best friend and I would share earbuds and bopping to State of Grace and Holy Ground. Probably my most nostalgic album.
All too well is about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal (her ex boyfriend) and he didn't come at her 21st birthday (the moment i knew from red really describe that part and the lyrics "it's supposed to be fun turning 21" from all too well) 22 is like happy song and he was 29 and Taylor was 20 when they were dating
When you know that all too well and we are never getting back together are about the same relationship you can assume both breaking up and coming back together but also casual ghosting (we haven't seen each other in a month when you said you needed space). So I always interpreted the line about needing space after months in a grave as going low/no contact on her, instead of breaking up. And she felt shame because she was made to belive that her being upset about it, is a sign of being needy and immature.
Supposedly, JG lived in Brooklyn and they spent a lot of time at his place. After he broke up with her, it would make sense to say "When your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones I'm a soldier returning half her weight". Poetry!
All Too Well will stand the test of time as her most amazing song lyrically and emotionally. But Long Live will always be my fave - it’s the time we shared fighting dragons in the early years on the way to the huge success and is just so so special to me.
During the tour she’s singing the songs in a lower key to save her voice, not an uncommon thing for singers to do, Kelly Clarkson admits she lowers the key in her shows too for certain songs.
Order is Self titled (debut) -country Fearless- country Speak now -country but with some pop/punk elements Red- country with lots of pop 1989- pop bible Reputation - no explanation Lover- first self owned album Folklore/evermore- pure Taylor but unlike anything before Midnights - everything we ever wanted

@@SapphirePrimrose I am wearing a sparkly red cropped top and a black sequin skirt with black boots and gold jewellery. Its kind of inspired by taylor in the red tour in her ringleader outfit, but only some elements.
Brooklyn Broke is a term meaning like someone has money but they dress like they don’t. So like the show is about Jake Gyllenhall and like he was doing well but he always works like old looking flannels and jeans like a hipsters like a shirt that looks like it came from goodwill but really cost like $1000 dollars.
There's another version of the song 'All too Well' from the show SNL, where you can see how sad and emotionally destroyed she is. And from a post by Jack Antonoff (sorry if I spelled the name wrong. But English isn't my native language) it appears that she was working on the album Mitnights at the time, and the song You're Losing Me is exactly that time arose. And you can really see in her face that it's killing her inside to perform this song because it cuts so deeply into her soul. You definitely have to see this version, it's so good but also so sad because now you know that Taylor was going through a breakup at the time.
STOP THE ENDING OF ATW10min IS SO PERFECT LIVE I LOVE HOW ALL THE MUSIC STOPS AND YOU CAN JUST HEAR HER VOICE ECHOING I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT PERFORMANCES BUT THAT IS REALLY WHAT MAKES IT FOR ME ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ sorry i think you can tell i am very passionate
I'm sorry the part where she gives Kobe's daughter her hat and the way they just hug. Ugh.... I'm not crying I just have something in my eye I swear. Also Red was totally popular. It was her time dipping her toes into pop.
I was 10 when Red first came out, and I couldn't wait to turn 22 because of that song. I turned 22 just after Christmas, and one of the best things that happened was renting the movie, and that was my first belting of 22 as a 22 year old!!
You gotta listen to The Moment I Knew, you'll understand the upbeat 22 song after that line in ATW "its supposed to be fun turning 21" ❤ with the RED album we get the whole story!!
Brooklyn Broke is a saying used to discribe hipster types that wear seemingly "poor people" clothes, like sweaters or tattered jeans, but really the clothes are just high end and made to look that way, and usually dude bros trying to be intellectual. So i believe "Broke" double plays as "Brooklyn Broke" and "Broke my skin and bones" because Taylor's family didnt start off very wealthy (they werent broke, but they definatly didnt try to play off where/what they came from)
Can you please react to Scrooge: Christmas carol later never comes I really want to see your reaction to that song because I literally almost cried my eyes out on the emotions of the song you have to react and watch it please.
Red was considered a Country-Pop crossover album. It had her first pop songs, and then after that she went full pop with 1989 and never really went back to country after that. Folklore and Evermore are the closest, and she did sing Betty on the 2020 ACM awards. (Academy of Country Music)
I don't know if you have yet or not but you should definitely watch taylor singing all too well the ten minute version on SNL, it is probably my favourite version of it
Just realised Taylor sings “maybe I asked for too much”, pronouncing it as we do in Aus and the UK etc (ahhh-sked as opposed to ass-ked). I wonder if she was thinking of Joe while singing this 🤔
I feel like you’ve got a gazillion comments but Jake Gyllenhal lived in Brooklyn and wore a lot of flannel….and he missed her 21st bday so if you were still lost about the man in question. Never ever getting back together is also him…. There’s so much to her lyrics that they’ve developed college courses around them
I don’t think All Too Well is about a love story at all. It’s a tragedy of a girl who was abused by a much older lover who never acknowledged his feelings and would continually gaslight her to avoid any accountability. He was a liar and a manipulator- He was wealthy but wore clothes to appear grungy (brooklyn broke), he missed her 21st birthday, he charmed her parents like a talkshow (not like a boyfriend), and gave her just enough affection to string her along. In the end, she lost confidence in her sanity, of her identity and self worth. As she separated herself from the situation she could gain clarity of the relationship (and abuse) for what it was. In time, she regained what she lost and grew strong.
For the love of... All Too Well is about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, as is We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. They broke up SO MANY TIMES.
Before some swifties did not have any idea why Taylor put 22 after All too well but after she released All Too Well 10 min. Version we now understood why the next one is 22 because her 21st birthday was not it. It was not fun unlike 22 when she moved on perhaps.

22 takes on a special meaning when you realize this happy, carefree, upbeat song was probably written as a contrast to her 21st birthday. ❤
I feel like 22 is such a contrast to everybody's 21st. 21st feels so important, the becoming a true adult pressure. Whereas by 22 you tend to feel more ok with age and adulthood that its just fun.
The placement of it right after ATW was always so jarring. Now that ATW10 exists, it makes sense.
It’s supposed to be fun turning 21….until youre feeling 22!

the "brooklyn broke" line has a lot of layers to it, and is one of the most impressive in the song once you unpack it all! as a slang term, "brooklyn broke" refers to a couple of different things - having money but presenting yourself as having humble means, or actually being broke but it being largely because you reside in brooklyn (so if you lived elsewhere, you'd be well off). the phrase makes me think of two things from pop culture - a song by gym class heroes which says "i was brooklyn broke, now i'm upstate rich"; and the character dan humphrey from gossip girl, who is considered the "poor" kid in the show, but lives in a lovely expensive loft in brooklyn. in taylor's case she is referring to her ex who famously lives in brooklyn, where rent is cheaper, despite the fact that he could easily afford to live in manhattan - and who likes to appear as a very down-to-earth guy despite still living in luxury.
this can also be connected to other songs on the album, including "i bet you think about me" which is a very tongue-in-cheek song about the same ex who apparently looked down on her and her 'lesser' city (which, at the time, was nashville) and that also connects it back to the lyric about him skipping her 21st birthday party, which was held in nashville (so he only wanted to spend time with her in His city, not her own). but spending time with him in his city broke her. after red, she released 1989 and in the prologue to that album she said "from the girl who said she would never cut her hair or move to new york" which may have, at least in part, been caused by the fact that a couple of years earlier, she had her heart broken by this ex who lived in new york - but then she moved past that, and moved there anyways.
so that line holds a lot - the wordplay with "brooklyn broke" as a slang term, the specification that it's His city ("your brooklyn") as opposed to her city, the overall meaning that he broke her, references to other song lyrics from the same album ("all we are is skin and bone trained to get along" is a line in the song treacherous vs. "your brooklyn broke my skin and bone")
the rest of that last verse is just as interesting.

I am going as red era for the eras tour
Ooh, what outfit? When I went to the tour I was dressed as Taylor from the "22" MV.
@@SapphirePrimrose I am wearing a sparkly red cropped top and a black sequin skirt with black boots and gold jewellery. Its kind of inspired by taylor in the red tour in her ringleader outfit, but only some elements.
Wonderful! ❤
I can’t wait for all
To well 10 minute version then folklore era
12:25 she's only cryptic and Machiavellian because she cares
There's another version of the song 'All too Well' from the show SNL, where you can see how sad and emotionally destroyed she is. And from a post by Jack Antonoff (sorry if I spelled the name wrong. But English isn't my native language) it appears that she was working on the album Mitnights at the time, and the song You're Losing Me is exactly that time arose. And you can really see in her face that it's killing her inside to perform this song because it cuts so deeply into her soul. You definitely have to see this version, it's so good but also so sad because now you know that Taylor was going through a breakup at the time.
STOP THE ENDING OF ATW10min IS SO PERFECT LIVE I LOVE HOW ALL THE MUSIC STOPS AND YOU CAN JUST HEAR HER VOICE ECHOING I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT PERFORMANCES BUT THAT IS REALLY WHAT MAKES IT FOR ME ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
sorry i think you can tell i am very passionate
All too well is a masterpiece in songwriting.
All too well, 10min on SNL performance is my absolute favorite, the feeling she puts into it... ugh, its soooo good.
I'm sorry the part where she gives Kobe's daughter her hat and the way they just hug. Ugh.... I'm not crying I just have something in my eye I swear. Also Red was totally popular. It was her time dipping her toes into pop.
the high note in I knew you were trouble sent me to heaven
Red is between her country and little poppy. She fully started pop in 1989 then its Rep(utation) and Lover
ATW and ATW10 is something else.
all her album popular ma'am 😂
👇🏻 If Red is your favorite album.
Funny that you said they should play it in the background for ATWTMV. She did that for SNL one time.
I was 10 when Red first came out, and I couldn't wait to turn 22 because of that song. I turned 22 just after Christmas, and one of the best things that happened was renting the movie, and that was my first belting of 22 as a 22 year old!!
You have to see We Are Never Getting Back Together on the 1989 tour its amazing
22 is a fun song but with a sad backstory. The line “he said it supposed to be fun turning 21” in ATW10 explained it.
1989 was her first pop album
You gotta listen to The Moment I Knew, you'll understand the upbeat 22 song after that line in ATW "its supposed to be fun turning 21" ❤ with the RED album we get the whole story!!
The screaming goat version of "trouble" is worth watching. Just sayin' 😆
I hope that you will react to the “Ronan” VIDEO from the Red album. Have tissues available. It’s just soo good.
all too well is about a 3 month situationship with jake gyllenhaal. i love her for it tbh cause same
Her calling lover, Taylor's 3rd full pop album, as an album which SHE STARTED TRANSITIONING INTO POP is so funny😂
fantastic video!! you should react to the performance of Si me das a elegir by Rosalia, her voice is actually flawless. luv uu
i cant wait😝😝
I don't know if you have yet or not but you should definitely watch taylor singing all too well the ten minute version on SNL, it is probably my favourite version of it
There is a rock version for ikywt in the 1989 wt
Just realised Taylor sings “maybe I asked for too much”, pronouncing it as we do in Aus and the UK etc (ahhh-sked as opposed to ass-ked). I wonder if she was thinking of Joe while singing this 🤔
Or maybe it rhymes better
I feel like you’ve got a gazillion comments but Jake Gyllenhal lived in Brooklyn and wore a lot of flannel….and he missed her 21st bday so if you were still lost about the man in question. Never ever getting back together is also him…. There’s so much to her lyrics that they’ve developed college courses around them
I love your channel! Also, 22 came out when Taylor Swift was 23!
4:04 It songs familiar to you because you reacted to it on the 1989 tour, it was her rock version.
❤❤❤❤
I just know folklore blew your mind
There’s a rock version of Trouble out there.
🤣🤣 i love your vibe
22 came out when I was turning 22
Letsss gooo
Red 1980 and then lover after reputation lol
I love your journey of becoming a swiftie 😂❤
You know you are a real fan when you have to look up words in the dictionary from her lyrics lol😊
Yes this might surpass the beetles
It's about Jake Gylenhal
All her albums are popular tbf
For the love of... All Too Well is about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, as is We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. They broke up SO MANY TIMES.
Before some swifties did not have any idea why Taylor put 22 after All too well but after she released All Too Well 10 min. Version we now understood why the next one is 22 because her 21st birthday was not it. It was not fun unlike 22 when she moved on perhaps.
I love that the video is 13 minutes long 😂
Pls react to knowing what I know now from the new movie wish
Just to let you know 1989 is statistically her top selling of all of her releases
It’s time ah ah I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22
