    Though Viking Metal is sort of a genre, it's more of a thematic thing. Amon Amarth is considered Melodic Death Metal.
    You tend to say Power Metal whenever the song has an epic touch to it. Power Metal as a genre is usually defined by very fast but melodic songs and high clean vocals. Other elements that are usually present are fast double kick bass drums, synths, amazing guitar solos and a touch of symphonic and epic elements. Lyrical themes are more often than not fantasy literature or history related. As all metal genres, there's a very wide variety of bands that can be considered Power Metal but I think these are the "traditional" characteristics. Overlap especially with Progressive and Symphonic metal is very usual.
    Some of the biggest names on the genre are Helloween, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, DragonForce, Gamma Ray and Rhapsody just to name a few.
    Since metal genres are a neverending discussion, I'm sure there will be many people who disagree with me and have a different idea of what is power metal and what is not :D
    If you want to take a good look at the evolution of metal and the different genres, subgenres etc. I suggest checking out the documentary "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" by Sam Dunn and if you want to dive even deeper, the 12 episode follow-up series "Metal Evolution".

    War creates big changes in a relatively short time, so it's easy to tell history by tracking the upheavals of war. They are also usually declared by the powerful people in society (kings, the rich etc.), and war is one of the few things that can threaten those people, and for ages those were also the only people with the time to write history books, so they wrote about things that seemed most important to them. Plus they're real dramatic. But there are so many things that historians would love to know more about (economics, social customs, music, religious beliefs, on and on), but we can only use archaeology to find out that stuff, b/c ancient writers were so stuck on writing about war.

    I remember learning that a reason for the viking raids were in part due to the growing prosperity of Scandinavian people, which would lead to a rapidly growing population. As a result, groups began to first raid neighboring countrymen for food and tradable goods. Over time, they would eventually voyage across the sea to England. There were vikings who raided as a necessary means to survive but, many youngsters joined raid parties strictly to build a name and reputation for themselves.
    Naturally, voyaging became more than just a means to raid. They would also do so for agriculture, to establish trades, and even for curiosity of what else was out in the world, yet to be discovered.

    I really like Amon Amarth. I sort of think of them as the AC/DC of metal; most of their songs sound pretty much the same, but if you like the sound, they will always be good and never disappoint. Pick any random Amon Amarth song and you'll know pretty much exactly what you're going to get and it's going to get your head moving. Great reaction video as always dudes.
    I'd simply like to point out respectfully to you two that there's no such thing as 'power metal'.
    I'm a Metal-er, and have been a fan of Heavy Metal since I was in Junior High in the mid-80's when I first heard Haunting The Chapel by Slayer and Ride The Lightning by Metallica.
    And we-us Metal-ers know that there are ONLY 6 TRUE subcategories of Heavy Metal:
    1 - Heavy Metal;
    2 - Punk Metal;
    3 - Speed Metal;
    4 - Thrash Metal;
    5 - Death Metal:
    6 - Black Metal.
    The terms 'power metal' and 'metalheads' originated with the 'Yutes' who weren't even born yet when Heavy Metal was at it's HEIGHT in the mid-80's to mid-90's.
    I just honestly hope that you two don't think that what I said was meant in a negative way towards you guys, I was simply trying to give additional information as a Metal-er
    But regardless, again GREAT reaction video as always dudes.
    I'm always looking forward to the next reaction you guys do to Metal songs.
    That being said, just imagine if Haruna (sometimes referred to as the 'pocket nuke') was playing drums on this song.

    Hey guys, always love your reactions. This band is actually more death metal. Power metal is more like a band like Dragonforce. You can understand Johan so much better because he annunciates when he sings so much better than most death metal singers. This is one of my favorite bands. Also, if you enjoy tribal metal type of metals, then check out the song Roots bloody roots by the band Sepultura. That is about as tribal as I've ever heard. Lastly, not sure if you're aware, but you're about 3 songs behind now in the Babymetal new album singles releases. I saw your reaction to Divine Attack, they also have released Monochrome, Metal Kingdom (this one has live concert footage but studio album soundtrack), and this month they released Light and Darkness. So really looking forward to your reactions to those!! Anyhow, enjoyed the reaction keep up the good work!

    You said you like the "tribal" stuff. I recall Hollywood mentioning Irish descent. How about checking out Primordial. They make epic metal that has elements from Celtic music and Black and Doom Metal. For example "The Coffin Ships" about Great Famine in Ireland won't leave anyone cold. Also one of my favorites "Where Greater Men Have Fallen" is a masterpiece. You can't go wrong with any of their songs though.
