I've played China Warrior. It reminded me of a slightly better graphical version of Ninja Golf, but Ninja Golfia is actually fun, unlike China Warrior.
My 5 star turbo grafx games Blazing Lazers Super Star Soldier Soldier Blade Final Soldier Air Zonk Psycho Chaser Bonks Adventure Bonks Revenge Legendary Axe
China Warrior is the sole reason why I wanted a TG16. I know it’s not a particularly good game, but it’s quite fun if you don’t expect a whole lot from it. If this is 1 star, then Kung Fu on NES kind of has to be.
I was the only kid in my neighborhood who had a TurboGrafx. R-Type, Splatterhouse, Legendary Axe and Blazing Lazers were always the games I mentioned when defending its honor.
Bonk and Bonk's Revenge. Devil's Crush a good pinball game. To bad the Bonk games can't come on steam so play them again. I actually had the turbo express handheld system back then as well as the regular console, all the games played on the turbo express.
I have a special place in my heart for Turbografx. I’d say my all time favorites are Splatterhouse, Devil’s Crush, Dungeon Explorer, Legendary Axe 2, the Bonk games, and Ninja Spirit.
Just sticking to the US TG16, I'd say my top 5 five star games are Blazing Lazers, The Legendary Axe II, Soldier Blade, Ninja Spirit and Splatterhouse.
Hey John. An old gamer here. (60+) Fan of your channel. Deep Blue had a lot going on after the first 2 levels. You gotta give it a chance. That one and Balistics were two of my favorites. And Time Cruise was a heck of a lot of fun. The size of the table, the billions (over exaggeration) of targets. Also the fact that TurboGrafx handled pinball in a way the other systems couldn't. To say we didn't need a new one? We can ALWAYS use a new pinball game. So no, those are not 1 star games in my opinion. And honestly, how can anyone classify what is a 1 star game or a 5 star game. That is determined by the person who plays it.
The crazy thing (to me anyway) is that there _has_ to be at least one person on this planet who would consider every single one of these games their Best Game Of All Time. Someone out there is wearing a T-Shirt of China Warrior and has posters of the main character in the bed room.
Eh, I guess I'm that person though not that deep lol. I actually enjoy most of the LJN library for example with Beetlejuice being my favorite ( nostalgic reasons I guess).
Just getting into TG-16 games recently because I shunned the system back in the day but right now I'm enjoying "Final Lap. Twin". Very good, deep racing game.
Ballistics actually reminds me more of the game Crossfire, where you and your opponent are firing balls at a little black puck like object to get it in the goal
My top 5 TG-16 (HuCard) games: - The Legendary Axe - SideArms - Double Dungeons - Cadash - R-Type My top 5 CD Games: - Castlevania X: Rondo of Blood - Ys I & II - Cosmic Fantasy 2 - Lords of Thunder - Exile
Surprised to see another Double Dungeons fan. That game is usually torn to shreds. I personally loved it. Somer Assault, JJ and Jeff, Alien Crush, Cadash, Legendary Axe 2, Splatterhouse, Tricky Kick... I loved my TG16. I miss it dearly.
Crater Maze definitely isn't a 1 star game, it's a port of the arcade game "Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen" which is one of my favourites in the arcades too. It's interesting that it got rethemed as Doraemon in Japan.
My favorite TG16 game that I would personally rate 5 star is "JJ and Jeff" (AKA "Kato-chan & Ken-chan" in Japan). It's kind of a jank game, but it's just so goofy and bizarre that I can't help but love it.
Top Games : Alien Crush, Devils Crush, New Adventure Island, Parasol Stars, Tricky Kick, Chew Man Fu, Silent Debuggers, Cyber Core, Dragon Spirit, Blazing Lazers, Military Madness, all the Bonks, DD Order of the Griffon & Splatterhouse
Dungeon Explorer, Lord's of Thunder, Gate of Thunder, Neutopia, Netopia II, Bonk II, Blazing Lazers, Ys Book I & II, The Legendary Axe II and Splatterhouse. *****
Really like the Turbografx. I discovered it during the lockdowns having never heard of it back in the day. Some of the games that I really enjoyed and completed are the Neutopia series, bloody wolf, legendary axe and ninja spirits. Not to mention all the great shooters. Are they 5 star games,? Heck if I know, but i really likedthem.
One day I will do a video where I tell the story of how I first got a Turbografx and HATED IT initially because the game I got with it was Night Creatures. YUCK! Great video as always man. I'm surprised Night Creatures wasn't on here
So many great games on the TurboGrafx which I've loved discovering on the mini - Lords of Thunder, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Star Parodier are all excellent!
5 star games: Bonk's Revenge Bloody Wolf Lords of Thunder Blazing Lazers Splatterhouse Last Alert Air Zonk Magical Chase (I had to get a repro card for this, but I am not spending thousands of dollars on a game in general.)
I beat China Warrior because I owned it. I figured out a long time ago its more like an an early beat game. Cratermaze was fun, it was basically a top down modernization of load runner. I would have put it at 3 stars because you can really addicted to as a time waster. Talespin was fun, so I saved up and was super excited to get Darkwing Duck. I would put it in once in a while and get nowhere, I was so upset that I bought it. GOD Motoroader…. Whyyyyy…. I would still give it one star and I have owned it since it game out. Crap Power Golf?? I love that game, I still play it to this day. It’s one of my favorite golf games to this day. And then Talespin is on here.. I loved it, I beat it. I guess then it was because it was one of the only other platformer on the system. I think people should play time. I am gonna play powergolf now.
I don't have much experience with the TG-16 but a lot of these games look closer to 2 star games. At least they look playable, even if they aren't good.
As my favorite games (that I owned): Ninja Spirit, Slatterhouse and Dragon's Curse were the best, after that I fondly remember Bloody Wolf, Neutopia 2, Tiger Road, Vigilante, Shockman, Golden Axe II and Rainbow Islands.
One of my all time favorite Turbografx-16 games is Lords of Thunder. Graphically pretty great for being Turbografx-16, the soundtrack is rockin, and I just have constant fun playing over and over and over again. I honestly prefer it to Gate of Thunder, and it’s honestly pretty tough so I’ve never been able to beat it, but I have so much fun each time I don’t mind playing it again. On another note, Castlevania Dracula X: Rondo of Blood. One of the quintessential Castlevania games. Enough said
Ballistix reminds me of that board game from the 90s called Crossfire, where you shot little bbs at a target trying to force the target into your opponent's goal area. I wonder if there was something about that concept in the 90s
Cratermaze is like Street Combat, not because it's a bad game, but because the japanese version of the game is based on my favorite anime ever, Doraemon. What's even stranger is that even the Japanese version of the game is based on another game, called Booby Kids, where the protagonist of the game is literally the same blue-dude from Cratermaze. Btw I love Cratermaze, and it is easily one of my favorite games ever.
Haha, oh man... from this list, my brother & I growing up had Ballistix, Darkwing Duck, Deep Blue and Power Golf. Darkwing Duck and Deep Blue were bought through Turbo Zone Direct mail order, just anything else would have been better than those two. I maintain that Power Golf's pretty good, but it desperately needs an in-game shot preview of some sort - I mean, you're expected to refer to the manual for info on the various clubs' distances! Devil's Crush, for me, is the ultimate TG16 game and among the very best of the whole 16-bit era. Military Madness and Blazing Lazers are also super duper good, just to name a few I'd unquestionably rank as five star contenders :D
My five star TG16 game: Bravoman (or Beraboh Man)! I know it's cheesy as hell but I just adore that quirky little game. Played it a lot when I was a patient in the hospital, so a lot of it's nostalgia, but I think it's a fun game.
Always seemed such a cool console. Being in the UK I had NES, Snes and Megadrive. Before that we had Spectrum, Commodore64 and Amiga. Wish this one was more well known.
When Mom got me a Game Gear back as a kid she also got me two games for it: Sonic 2... and TaleSpin... If you thought ANY of the console TaleSpin games were bad, you haven't played it on the Game Gear... o_o;
Always wanted a TG16 as a kid, but didn't get one until a couple years ago. Love the system, but yeah, collecting for it is murder on my bank account. That said, there are some seriously amazing games on it. Five stars, I'd definitely have to go with Air Zonk, Chew Man Fu, Bonk's Adventure, Blazing Lasers, Splatterhouse, Jackie Chan, Alien Crush, Devil's Crush, Galaga '90, Klax, R-Type, Dragon Spirit, Aero Blasters, and maybe Soldier Blade...
The funny thing is that you mention that China Warrior "...looks like a fan made project on macromedia flash back in like 2004", but if that were the case it would have better play control. 😂
Man I used to go to Bellis Fair in Bellingham as a kid and I saw this when it came out and Keith Courage demo was on display. I wanted to buy it so badly but we had a Nintendo. Can’t complain because I fell in love with Castlevania 1-3, Dragon Warrior 1-4, Double dragon 1-3, and Megaman 1-5. Ya okay Im happy I had an NES
I think I saw one Turbografix 16 once when I was over a friend's house when I was like, 12. Never owned one, never really was into it. I was a Nintendo kid all the way until Gamecube.
I had a TG 16 as a kid but not a ton of games. The ones I remember playing the most were the Bonk Games, Legendary Axe, Blazing Lasers,Keith Courage (even though that’s more of a middle tier game), and a racing RPG called Final Lap Twin. I’m sure the latter title is considered mediocre, but I looooved that game as a kid.
I’ll defend TailSpin for Turbografx 16 as well. It’s way better than Darkwing Duck on the system and honestly it’s what the NES version should’ve been. At least half of it with the other half being more functional flying stages.
Honestly I find China Warrior great. I've played so much of it, it has a lot of memorization behind it and once you get the hang of it there is great fun and challenge to be had. It feels like a Kung-Fu sequel for sure!
Missed the whole point of Time Cruise, the variety of bonus stages that take place during different time periods (hence the name). Highly recommend anyone interested in video pinball give it a second look
I really enjoyed Takin it to the Hoop. Picking your team roster was fun, and the players were all distinct. That was RARE back then! And the gameplay wasn’t bad, either. 3 star for me.
Can’t Wait For The 5 Star Turbo Grafx Games I Was Lucky Enough To Be Playing Nintendo Master System Turbo Grafx Genesis Neo Geo And Super Nintendo All At One Point In The Late 80s Early 90s
As far as five-star games, two of my favorites are Dungeons & Dragons: Order of the Griffon and Military Madness. I would definitely include Bonk's Adventure. Bonk's Revenge and Bonk III are great games, but I think the first one is the best.
Fin is French for “The End” and it’s on French films of course. Some people put Fin at the end of their games or movies in order to give it a sense or pretentiousness for humor sake. This or the game developers for that were actually French.
had a turbo grafx, my faves was, parasol stars, splatterhouse, r-type. i think the game came with captain courage and didn't care for that one but it came with a side scroller shoot em up that was ok. i actually beat parosol stars, the last level was crazy. i forgot time cruise, i really liked that one, played the heck out of it. i liked all the different areas, it was kind of generic but reminded of old simple pinball games.
I will never understand why Tale Spin shows up on so many people's hate lists. It's not the best game, but it's fun and it's got a nice variety of levels. I see so many videos where people say that this game is hard and they can't finish it, which I also don't understand. I can finish this game every single time I play it. For me it's all about the nostalgia. I had a turbo graphics back in the day and I chose it over the Super NES and the genesis because I'm all about the underdog
I owned Darkwing Duck back in the day. I absolutely loved it. I would play it on easy otherwise was too difficult. I tell everyone play it on easy and it is a good game.
I didnt own a turbgrafx sadly. I had the sega and super Nintendo then PS. Missed out on some great games but that just means I have alot of games to try out now. I'm still going through the NES library at 36 honestly lol
Not sure if you're counting Japanese titles for the favorites video, but Metal Stoker is an awesome shooter like Granada on Sega Genesis. Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu is another favorite.
I would definitely give Hyper Dyne Side Arms a five star rating. Still havent beaten it, but I love it and keep trying. Atomic Robot Kid; maybe not 5 star but still really fun.
I never had this system man! I got my first Atari 2600 when I was a kid! Then NES, SNES, Nintendo64 and PS 1, 2, 3, and now 4. Lol! And I'm 53 and they will probably have a PS20 before I get a 5 lol!
China Warrior isn't as bad as it gets slack for. And back in the day, man was it a spectacle cuz how huge and detailed the characters were. It has a special place in my collection and memory. Is it good, no. Is it bad, no. Was it something special to us turbo kids, hell yeah!
I don't remember these really, I tryed to avoid the bad ones. Bonk and Bonks revenge were good ones. We got Mario, we got Sonic, and we got Bonk our forgotten hero.
I too, had the Turbografx when I was a kid. Got it in 1989. (xmas) I was one of the few, the proud. Had Takin it To The Hoop as well as Turbo Sports, Hockey and Basketball. Hockey was playable but nothing great. The basketball games were both fun but Tv sports basketball was the better game. Takin it to the hoop had wonky controls. Vigilante was similar to China Warrior yet somehow was vastly superior. Victory Run was super generic too.
I feel like Taking it to the Hoop and Power Golf are only here because people default to thinking sports games are bad. However, both of them are pretty fun, arcadey TG16 titles. Don't get me wrong, they aren't amazing, but they are perfectly solid.
I was surprised to see Time Cruise on there. Is it as good as Devil's Crush? No, but not much is in that genre. The bonus games are a lot of fun in it once you figure out how to get to them. There's also a really bizarre set of graphics demos in the options menu, it's like the programmer just got bored and had some leftover ROM to fill. I dunno, I think it's neat.
SUBSCRIBE then tell me your favorite 5-Star TG16 games in the comments for a chance for pick to show up in the next video.
I've played China Warrior. It reminded me of a slightly better graphical version of Ninja Golf, but Ninja Golfia is actually fun, unlike China Warrior.
Sega Saturn Games in Canada are rich gamers thing.

Legendary Axe
@@dwaynemenzies8824 yeah and Ninja Golf was on Atari 7800 lol
Legendary Axe 2

That's my TG-16 holy trinity
China Warrior is the sole reason why I wanted a TG16. I know it’s not a particularly good game, but it’s quite fun if you don’t expect a whole lot from it. If this is 1 star, then Kung Fu on NES kind of has to be.
I actually like that game, big sprites and all
Dude, no. Kung Fu NES is crispy as hell, it’s almost perfect in its simplicity. How can you say this?
Kung Fu on the NES is a whole lot more playable. That being said, I owned both back in the day and I liked China Warrior too.
I was the only kid in my neighborhood who had a TurboGrafx. R-Type, Splatterhouse, Legendary Axe and Blazing Lazers were always the games I mentioned when defending its honor.
That's a banger lineup as a kid in the day with a turbo
You defended it well
Those are definitely some of the best games on the system!
Ditto. But also bonk. And ghost manor. ,. And a few others I can't memmer
Bonk and Bonk's Revenge. Devil's Crush a good pinball game. To bad the Bonk games can't come on steam so play them again. I actually had the turbo express handheld system back then as well as the regular console, all the games played on the turbo express.

Y’s Book I & II is the quintessential 5-Star Turbografx-16 game.
This, but without the apostrophe (sorry, I guess I'm just an Ys fanboy ;) )
As a kid I loved Devil's Crush, Neutopia, and Legendary Axe, as a adult I have been playing mostly Blazing Lasers and Bonk 3.
Just sticking to the US TG16, I'd say my top 5 five star games are Blazing Lazers, The Legendary Axe II, Soldier Blade, Ninja Spirit and Splatterhouse.
not a bad list at all. I actually prefer the first legendary axe though, it just has a vibe to it I like.
Hard to disagree with that list.

I know absolutely nothing about this console. Never heard of it until the Wii was released. So your video has taught me something new. Thank you John.

good games, but I would through Soldier Blade in there over any other shmups.
Bloody Wolf
Bonk s Revenge
Air Zonk

Just a few of my faves 😊
Crater Maze definitely isn't a 1 star game, it's a port of the arcade game "Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen" which is one of my favourites in the arcades too. It's interesting that it got rethemed as Doraemon in Japan.
Darkwing Duck was so good on NES. I got snookered by the sprite size in this one. After a minute of playing this, I wanted to cry
Avgn did a video on dw
It's not bad
Just bad hit detection
If only Capcom had made this one.
Ballistix looks like someone tried to make a video game out of the Cross Fire table top game.
My favorite TG16 game that I would personally rate 5 star is "JJ and Jeff" (AKA "Kato-chan & Ken-chan" in Japan). It's kind of a jank game, but it's just so goofy and bizarre that I can't help but love it.

Darkwing Duck and Takin it to the Hoop were the games I saw in magazines that got me to buy the Turbografx-16 and promptly sell the Turbografx-16.
How ya feeling? Ya got John Riggs here...
I only been aware of TURBOGRAFX 16 since December 2022 with one of your old videos
So many great games on the TurboGrafx which I've loved discovering on the mini - Lords of Thunder, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Star Parodier are all excellent!

I'm told that Darkwing Duck has an extra layer of infamy - if you stand still for too long, a safe falls on you and makes you not alive anymore.
Crater Maze is alot of fun when you get the hole upgrade. 🕳 you can dig 2 or 3 in a row making it easier to trap enemies 👍

Big agree with you on power golf. I like it fine for what it is. Not sure why people hate on it so much.
I like Crater Maze. A very casual puzzle game.
I owned Darkwing Duck back in the day. I absolutely loved it. I would play it on easy otherwise was too difficult. I tell everyone play it on easy and it is a good game.
I Used to love Moto Roader. I would always pick the black car and upgrade to look like the bat mobile.
Crater Maze is definitely not a 1-Star game. I'd go so far as to even say 3.5 or 4.0.. It's fun, quirky, and has a lot of charm, AND a lot of levels.
Run 'n Coconut! Best Riggs line yet.
I didnt own a turbgrafx sadly. I had the sega and super Nintendo then PS. Missed out on some great games but that just means I have alot of games to try out now. I'm still going through the NES library at 36 honestly lol
The TG16 was the first console I bought with my own money, from some freak at a flea market.
I didn’t know Dark Wang Duck was on Turbo Grafix 16!
Bad: Deep Blue, The Ninja Warrior. Good: Blazing Lasers, Bonk's Revenge
China Warrior isn't as bad as it gets slack for. And back in the day, man was it a spectacle cuz how huge and detailed the characters were. It has a special place in my collection and memory. Is it good, no. Is it bad, no. Was it something special to us turbo kids, hell yeah!
I kinda liked Takin it to the Hoop, but TV Sports Basketball was definitely a one-star game.
I had Takin' It To The Hoop when it came out. Loved the game. I wouldn't consider it 1star. I'll have to give it another play through.
I don't remember these really, I tryed to avoid the bad ones. Bonk and Bonks revenge were good ones. We got Mario, we got Sonic, and we got Bonk our forgotten hero.
No way Tailspin is a one-star game. For me, it's an above-average platformer. Not great, but not bad by any stretch.
Tailspin always reminded me of a kid/Disney version of Bayou Billy.
Time Ball gave me Pipe Dream (NES) flashbacks.
Macromedia....thats a blast from the past!!
The Neutopia games are 5-Star games. Same with Lords of Thunder
Some of these looks fun to play. Everyone has their own taste I guess. hell there's Bubsy and mary kat and ashley on game boy fans out there.
