Senior citizen here. Grew up with Vicks vaporub on chest. Warm T shirt put on body afterwards. Used with my children too. Natural. DR. MOM knew best.

I am 82 and my mother used Vicks on me and
my brother. Chest and neck with nice warm cloth.
I used on my children.
Not only used on chest, but on feet when coughing.
Put on feet and then put socks on.
At 82 still use when needed.

I had a very, very bad cramp in my leg. I was in a lot of pain. Of course, I would not be able to sleep. It did not go away.
I had the DT version of VVR next to me. I had it for something else from a while back.
I had the crazy thought to put it on my leg and foot. I extremely thought that it would not do much, but thought if it did anything at all I would be grateful to God.
Well, within a few minutes the pain was reduced by at least 90%. I was able to sleep. When I woke up my leg and foot felt fine.
Usually with a Charlie horse pain like that, which I would sometimes get before, I have residual pain for a while.
Praise Jesus! I considered it near miraculous.
@@kathleennorton2228 magnesium and potassium- that’s what you need for leg cramps - find foods that contain these 2 (bananas, coconut water, etc) and consume it and you won’t have them anymore
@@angie7278 Thanks. I do know this, but others don't. For me it wasn't really a CH. It seems it was something that happened with a tendon. It was a thing of the past until it happened again, hopefully for the last time.
It was truly amazing, though, how the DT brand of VVR alleviated it so quickly.
@@kathleennorton2228 That’s amazing! I’ve had the tendon issue you speak of in my ribs and wrist and usually just deal with the pain until it goes away, which is sometimes a few days. Will try VVR next time 😁
I usually eat a banana daily, but didn't have one for a day or 2. Got a bad leg cramp. Now I know to try the Vicks.
Take several shakes of salt directly on the tongue or drink pickle juice and your cramp will go away almost immediately. ✨🥒🧂

I’m from the Caribbean. I grew up using Vicks all the time. It was a staple in our household. I continue to have one on my beside table to this day! ❤
When we were children, Mom and grandma always used this natural remedy. So soothing . ..lets go back to the yesteryear

I used to live in workboots 16 hrs a day, and hotels for the rest. I had a toenail go on me and tried everything to fix the problem. One day my doctor's assistant recommended vaporub, and it worked. Anyone with trouble should use vaporub regularly.
In the middle of dealing with toe fungus the last few weeks and the Vicks helps SOOOO MUCH. Definitely also recommend!

I used that on my boys when they were sick plus a vapouriser so they could sleep well without constant coughing. Some emergency service people use it too on themselves,when someone is found days after they have passed. To block the smell.

I dropped my friend at home after a holiday and his neighbour had passed away, it was a hot summer. I could smell it from the driveway. You can't get rid of the smell in your nose for hours,that's why people attending scenes like that put Vicks under their nose,that's where I first saw a policewoman and ambulance applying it,so they couldn't smell the decay.

This works for more mild to moderate pain. It's extremely amazing. There's also an oil called white flower which is much more potent for severe pain. These ingredients this immaculate Dr is reading are what's so vital for pain and inflammation. 🌸
I used to work in a Chinese takeaway shop here in the Uk. One night as I was ladling some very hot curry sauce into a small pot I accidentally poured some onto my hand, as the curry sauce was oil based it was really painful.
After plunging my hand into cold water the owner brought out a tiny bottle of clear oil that had a picture of white flowers on it, she told me to put some on my now very painful red hand.
Within minutes the pain was gone and it never even blistered. The little bottle of oil came in a small box and it was called white flower oil, I did a little research and if I remember correctly the flowers were from the white willow tree that aspirin derives from.

Try muscinex. It helps loosen myscus so you can cough it up.
It’s also great for extremely dry feet 👣 you know as we get older how our feet get?! Yes, so I use it after a shower, then put socks on and wear them to bed. The next morning you wake up with improved feet!!🦶

We've known these since we were young. We grew up on vicks and now on a lot of similar liniments. Most of us have portable inhalers or roll on liniments on hand for headaches, colds, fever, cough dizziness, muscle cramps, insect bites, etc.... its an all around first aid for us.
Thank you Doc, I use a diffuser with these essential oils in concert. Vicks is always good to have on hand.
I often use Vicks on my feet. IT relieves burning and helps heal cracked skin.

You know what else Vicks is good for, fever blisters... You know how your lip itches as a blister is beginning to form?, well put Vicks on it when it itches and it will not come to blister and within 3 days even the itch will be gone...

I've been using Vicks VapoRub since your last video. I had rejected it due to the fact that one of the ingredients is "petrolatum." But, trusting you, Dr. Mandell, I plan to use VapoRub liberally. My bit of research here this morning has revealed that:
#1: Petrolatum and petroleum jelly are NOT the same thing. Petrolatum is the purified form of petroleum jelly.
#2: Vaseline is petroleum jelly which is a mixture of semi-solid hydrocarbons that may contain impurities.
🐬🌸Thank you Dr. Mandell for covering this topic. Yes, I use Vick's Rub every night because it relaxes me after working out and riding my bike just 5-7 miles everyday. In my opinion, the formula now is not as strong as it was in my childhood days...so im looking for a replacement.🌸🐬

I would say not to because it blocks your ability to breathe in fresh air.

The Vicks vapo rub of today is not the same vapo rub when I was a kid. I noticed today's formula is not as strong as it was back in the day. Personally I like to use tiger balm ultra strength it's a lot stronger.

I love your videos and your content doc, but I just can't get myself to buy a product that is meant for topical use that not only uses the word but actually has it in the ingredients, "petroleum"! Perhaps the doc could make one of his videos addressing that. Are there any equivalent products to Petroleum jelly that doesn't use petroleum byproducts in it but has a lot of the other great ingredients (i.e. camfer, eucalyptus...etc.) mixed into it that could be a good replacement?
Vicks does not contain petroleum! It has PETROLATUM in it, which is not the same thing, &is not harmful! It's something a lot of people get confused about.
