The goal was never to make a cheaper LOQ. The goal was to raise the prices across the board. They stripped it down, kept it at the same price range so that they can sell the original LOQ and the Legions higher. With the indroduction of the new 5000 series its perfect timing cause prices are gonna be all over the place for all laptops.
For 3rd world countries, I can see this being a lot popular. The LOQ essential and LOQ's price difference here in the Philippines is around $150 and it's quite a big deal.
I think Lenovo's sin here is that they have cut performance and overall quality without adequately differentiating the product in terms of naming and price from the superior, original LOQ. I have bought 2 LOQs as gifts in the past 12 months (daughter and son-in-law) based on your recommendations and they are both very happy with them. Was very easy to upgrade the SSD to 2tb in both of them too.
If you want non e-waste specs you go for an expensive model. And who knows, maybe you will get a ridiculous amount of money from a grandma somewhere, who thinks this is cheaper

but the battery life is much more worse due to the power-hungry 12450HX, which basically just throw away the purpose of mobility with the lightweight design for this one lol
I fell for that wrong name on JB Hifi's listing. I thought it was the same LOQ on the Lenovo site with a 12450HX and 4050 GPU but for a slightly lower price. It was 1149 on JB Hifi and 1299 on Lenovo at that time so you could be fooled into thinking it was the same. I even told the cashier the cashier the whole thing weighed a lot less than their LOQ on display at the store. Returned once after I saw it was the Essentials version.

I recently bought a Dell G16 with all the extras like faster ram, GSYNC display and a 4060 for like 925$ total and I love it! I would save up the money to get a 4060 over the 4050 however if I didn't have the cash at the timer! I run CyberPunk 2077 1080p, full everything including path tracing and with frame generation and DLSS set to quality I get almost 90 fps! Do no settle for anything below a 4060 laptop wise imho.
I think that laptops bellow a certain level of quality just shouldn't exist. You will need to upgrade sooner, so it is not cost effective. Also, the environment. This thing, if priced well, could at most attract someone who wants an office laptop, but plays a non demanding game once a week. But even there there are better options

I'd say go for Rog as it's the cheapest 32gb is more then enough and 4060 isn't playing any good game at 240hz specially in 2k resolution but if you really want gamming and have the budget you should go for predator but it doesn't have as good of a building quality or battery life as the others
I have the new essential i7/RTX4050/16GB version but I bought it specifically for photo editing and the srgb screen. I’m upgrading from an HP with integrated graphics card and an ntsc screen. It’s been working great as a photo editing laptop while also working out of. For this purpose, I believe the essential was a good buy for me (I got it on sale for $650 usd with free 2 day express shipping direct from Lenovo website). My photo edit rendering and processing times have significantly improved!
I highly believe the main reason LOQ has branch out a LOQ E, because "cheap" LOQ are too costly/expensive to keep the chassis design without cutting corners while using specs as low as RTX2050. at least this version will not have higher 4060 variant, Lenovo purposely release this version to fight the budget market. If you wonder this concept actually goes way back to Lenovo ideapad L340 timeline where they couldn't release any cheaper Legion models. WHAT surprised me what LOQ E did one good, they actually "perfected" the cooling that any ideapads ever dream of getting one fyi Acer have an even cheaper Aspire RTX2050 model but imo didn't cut away too many compared to the LOQ E
I have an LOQ ryzen 7 7840HS and it has been the best computer in terms of functionality that I have ever had. The wifi range is amazing. I get full bars on 5ghz on the other side of the house. My samsung s24 doesn't even get range like that. Sad to hear them making the LOQ worse.

This LOQ looks like a direct replacement to Lenovo Ideapad, except the Ideapad has 2 replaceable RAM slots
More so a spiritual successor to the L340 (which also had only 1 memory slot)
last 2 years ideapad has been non-upgradable rams since gen 8

Intel or amd cause I got mine with amd, a 4070, 32gb ram and 240hz 400nit screen for 1500 after taxes. 😅
