- Here is a video of my modified 1979 GL1000. I mis-spoke about the front fender. It is from the earliest Sabre 750's, not a CB900 Custom. Since I made this video, I have found a mint condition 78 gauge pod, so that little detail is now rectified.
Those subtle changes make this bike look like a 2021 reimagined retro style release. Doing it yourself is never easy but there is nothing more satisfying. So well done! Ride safe.
Thank you, sir. I always wanted to do a Goldwing retro, but found that too many of them were "over the top" in their modifications. I couldn't have been happier how this turned out.
You've created the first "Goldwing S" ❤
Very tasteful and neat job you’ve done there. Like the fact that you’ve not gone too far, making the bike into a cafe racer. It’s still clearly a Gold Wing...
Thanks for the kind words. That was exactly my goal, and it was a fun build.
Nice job my fellow GL enthusiast. I'm in the process of converting my 82 GL1100 to be a street bike similar to yours.
Very nice. So many guys go too far restoring classic bikes and turn them into something they were never meant to be. Well done , I like your bike very much.
Thanks, Peter. It was a lot of fun to create.
That seat really makes all the changes you did stand out , nice job
Just purchased one in hopes to have something like this as a end result SUPER NICE VERY CLEAN
That is absolutely beautiful! What a gorgeous example of a vintage Honda Goldwing! I really really love it - awesome job brother!
It is amazing awesome job I found a 1977 and I'm starting fixing it up
Thanks for sharing your ideas and presentation us your very good work. This Goldwing is now a beauty. I very like it.
Beautiful ride.
It looks like the big brother to the GB500 single!
Wonderful job! You nailed it when you said this looks like something Honda should have done. Sporty, classic, tasteful.
Thanks, Mike. It was a labor of love!
That's a bad ass bike, you did an awesome job on her
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MOTORCYCLE THIS 1979 HONDA GOLDWING. A GREAT AND SPORTY MACHINE !!! I LOVE THIS 👍👍👍❤❤❤
Great job. Bike looks amazing
Sweet bike. Great eye for cleaning up the style.
I really love what you’ve done with this great classic bike. Solid work, with a lot of subtle changes. Nice job 🇺🇸
Thanks! The bike has now gone on to a better home. I hope the new owner cherishes it as much as I did.
I'm very impressed! That is an amazing look! Some polished aluminum accents on the engine and it would pop even more than it does now. Fantastic!!
Love the bike! The seat was worth the price of the bike my friend, it's beautiful. I've got a 79 also I bought in 2011 it had been sitting in a barn since 1998 with 14,000 miles for 300$. Chrome was pitted all over and was flaking off of the valve covers. I cleaned those up and powder coated them black, along with the carbs and intakes, the timing belt cover, and the exhaust and muffler heat shields. I thought about chopping the goofy long front fender but was worried about throwing rocks back into the engine. I also want lower handlebars but maybe not as short as yours. You did a good job on It and it gives me some ideas. Happy riding!
Thank you! These bikes have so much to offer and can be a really nice, affordable custom!
I take that back, it's perfect just the way it is!
Really nice looking bike, not too overdone...top job
Great Eye & Nicely Done!
Love 2 see you take us for a Ride!?
Thanks for the Eye*Candy along with Well Spoken walk threw!
✌💖
🙏4 🇺🇸
Very Nicely and tastefully modified
You've done a nice job on that bike, quite subtle
This would have to be the nicest example of a goldwing I've ever seen. Must give you happy flutters everytime you ride it.
Ive seen a lot of GoldWing videos on here and this is easily my favorite. You made several subtle changes that fit together and make this a very attractive and useful bike. I’ll probably use a few of your ideas when I put my ‘75 GL back on the road. Thanks for a well produced and informative video.
Thanks, Lee. It was a super fun project.
Good job the bike looks nice.i have the 78 gl1000. I got it 400 rebuilt the carbs change bars and seat.still a few things to change.
Wow it sounds fantastic and you did a great job on those carbs! Nick from South Africa.
Fun Fact; The GL1000 carbs weigh in at 15.2 pounds! I have the photo to prove it!
Very nice bike, greetings from germany 👍
Love the way it turned out, that seat suits it so well.
Sehr schönes Bike , tolle Arbeit
You know that it really looks good. It does still look like a wing however I love the blinkers and cat eye tail light. The front fender should have been from factory. Looks great.
After reading my comment I want to be clear on the fender. The way you have it is how it should of come from factory.
@@mosmotorcyclejourney9067 Thanks, Mo. You had me wondering if you were thinking the old one looked better. All good!
@@SinnerSince1962 thanks for the reply. Nope. It looks awesome. 👌
Looks very nice. You've done a good job with that
Thats perfectly built mate, in love with this one
Just got mine for $300 on the 27th of October! I'd hope that I can get it to look this nice soon 😁
Good luck! Don't get discouraged with the fact these bikes are unique. Once you understand them, they are quite awesome. There is almost a cult following of these GL1000's now.
Sharp looking bike
My son has this same GW sitting in my garage but has two other Hondas to ride I like your version shown here, I'm shooting this vid to him cause I want this done on his GW then I will ride it for him haha
It's a great bike, Don. I've always been a GW fan, but thought they should have introduced a sportier version at the time. Since they didn't, I invented my own!
Very nice work done, looks like new 👏👍
Love what you did, your hardwork shows. Looks beautiful and sounds amazing. I will be buying a 1979 Gl 1000. Can you please let me know where to find original fenders and other things. Thank you
Absolutely beautiful my friend...👍
She is sweet & sounds sweet too..!
My first mode of transportation was a 79 GL1000. It was 1989, I was 15 and could not even get a driver's license for it. I drove it to school every day it wasn't raining until I turned 16 and then I trade it for Firebird. It was fully dressed with an Alpine tape deck.
Looks good 👍
Great job.
That looks lovely
SWEET! You did a great job! Thanks for posting the video. Isn't great the attention it gets at gas stations, with people commenting how nice it looks?
Bryan Dover,
Nice work on all the polished aluminum parts. I love when the fork tubes reflect the sun, so much better than the dull gray factory finish. Can you spread the fender and move the brackets to the inside of the fender, kind of hiding the modification? it worked on mine. Not a criticism, I love the bike!
At the suggestion of my good friend Hank, I entered it into a local car/bike show. The money went to the ministry anyhow, so I agreed. Granted, there weren't many bikes there, but it won best of show. I was shocked! I wasn't even expecting an honorable mention! I guess the best part is having your hard work validated by other motor-heads. :) I need to thank you for providing me with some of the inspiration. A lot of those watch counts on your videos are mine!
@@GlGl-sg1vk I had wanted to do that in the beginning, but found that there was a slight 90 bend (for rigidity) on the mounting tab of the fender, plus the fact the bracket for the brake hose support intruded from behind also made it pretty awkward to make the mount work. I'm not saying it couldn't have been done, I just resigned myself to the fact it would take more fabrication work and time than I wanted to invest at the time. I may go back and re-visit it at a later date once my desire to tinker with it again comes back!
Sweet. 😍
I want to duplicate that bike exactly. It is perfect!
looks great
Thanks, Tom!
I'm from Louisville and have a 79 as well would love to see you out sometime
I've been riding a lot, so chances are we will, David!
Did you do any modification when swapping out the handlebar and using the OEM hand controls?
No mods needed. I did however have to change the clutch cable to a shorter one. THAT was a bear!
very nice
Stylish and functional. Well done. I’m not a fan of butchered bikes.
Thank you Peter! I’m not a fan of butchered bikes either!
Searching for a cool temp sensor for a 1981 goldwing 1100 do you know where I can get one of those at its OAM parked I like your bike it's nice looks good looks like a Sportster no rider
hey kanst du mir sagen bitte welche marke reifen du drauf hast und welche größen vorne wie hinten? baue mir gerade meine gl1000 bj 79 um und brauche neue reifen. bedanke mich schon mal und gruß holger
Ich kann mich nicht erinnern. Verzeihung.
Hello, your rear fender caught my eye and I was wondering what fender is it or where did you get it from? Any reply would be great as i'm looking for something like that for my GL1100.
Joshua, it's the standard fender that I bobbed myself. I used a rotary cut-off wheel to do it, followed by filing it off to make a smooth edge.
Where did you get that seat? Will it fit on a gl1100?
The seat came from Corbin. As mentioned, it was already on the bike when I purchased it. I seriously doubt it would fit on the 1100.
Hello Bryan! Very nice job you did on that bike.I think you changed the handles can you tell me where are they from thank you. Louis from Quebec
Thanks for the compliment! I really don't remember the brand name on them, but if you look up Tracker bars on eBay, you'll find many varieties.
Niceee
Hey we’re did u find that seat at
Corbin product.
When you're ready to move on from this bike pls let me know. I will buy it
