Nice old Wing! I've never owned a Gold Wing but I currently have 4 Honda motorcycles, one Honda mower and an 08 Accord. My daily ride is a 93 ST1100 with 210,000 miles on it.

nice goldwing and video. I have a 1975 goldwing my father bought brand new from Albany Georgia when they came out in 75. Over the years he added the vetter fairings/bags and stuff. He gave it to me a couple years ago and I took all that off and brought it back to its original red color. Not quite as nice as yours but still gets down the road and gets complements everywhere I go.

Having had one, I know they can cruise effortlessly and without strain at 100 mph. Years ago, I owned and rode a then new '77 Gold Wing from East Boston to Michigan, via Canada. The US was at the federally mandated 55 mph at the time, so imagine my delight when I crossed over into Canada, and saw those first speed limit signs. 60, 80, 100. Learned later that the speeds were in kilometers per hour, not miles.
Had to take the MSF course on the naval station, which required, stalling the bike on an incline, and kick starting it. Those riders who have owned this bike, will remember what a hassle that was, to kick start it.

I first fell in love with riding as a kid when my dad would take me out on his 77 Goldwing. Such a fun bike! I myself now own a '72 Cb750 Four but someday I'd love to have a naked Goldwing that looks as good as this one does.

Owner of a 75 GL1000 here. I just want to say, that is a beautiful, near original, bike. Mine is more customized, but also a restored low mile bike (it sat in a garage for 20 years). You, like me, and a couple of friends that I have let ride my bike, have discovered what a great all rounder these things are. These created the sport touring market. It's a shame they turned into near 1000lb barges, but that's just the way of things. No, it won't win many races, but it never fails to put a smile on my face.

Stunning motorcycle! My late dad rode a 400/4 but always lusted after a Wing. Finally (at 42!) on my way to getting my bike license, and fully intend to ride a Wing in memory of my old man, he never did own one and would have loved to see one in my driveway.

Looks so much like where I grew up. Also reminds me of a Nighthawk and a Magna of those days. The first bike I rode was a Hodaka; The first I owned was a Yamaha 100 Enduro. I think I'd have Michigan and Carolinas trips in mind already if I were you! I've got another Yamaha and a Kawasaki right now but haven't ridden in a while. I keep thinking about a BMW and cross-country trip for next year, but it might be two years out. This video fuels the fire, brother. Cool ride. Congratulations, and thanks for sharing!

they never had chrome shields on the headers, they were always black. Only chrome on the exhaust is what you have on the muffler itself. beautiful example of a 1000cc wing
(EDIT) I jjust got myself an 81 wing to restore, 39000 original kms on the clock. Its been sitting for a long time, the bloke im getting it of bought as a parts bike for his but hardly touched it...he got it from an old guy who was going to turn it in to a trike but never happened...so has been sitting im told for about 15 years...I would have liked to get a 76 1000 but i like the 11oo and 1200s....wasnt real keen on the later 1500 onward.

i love 70's-80's Japanese bikes...they clearly took their inspiration from earlier Triumphs.. in my opinion...and what a classic , bare bones aesthetic it is they drew from.....i fell for these bikes one day upon seeing a late 70's ...early 80's Suzuki....it had the obligatory cyclops headlamp , cow horn bars , a beautiful white gas tank with a navy blue stripe running down it's side..and a big fat straight 4 beneath it......looking at older Ducatis it's clear to see the design influence... Ducatis are sweet , but the Japanese got it right...classic, reliable and affordable bikes...designed and built by people who love motorcyles as much as we do.....that's a really nice Honda you've got there Rob...i didn't know the Goldwing started out without all the fairings and storage...reminds be of BMW's with the flat motor....congrats and enjoy

Rob that is a beautiful machine and hey it's the same age as me. Dang I hate to call something my age a classic, but it truly, truly is. Off topic the other night I couldn't find my funnel and made one out of an empty STP oil treatment bottle (my choice assembly lube you can't barely hold a bearing)..... With my EDC knife, thought nothing of it but later on I opened my knife faster than ever. I know I know there is purpose built stuff and whatever I'm still an Andy Granatelli fan. Give it a shot. Although I haven't like stripped ad cleaned I had been lubing with gun oil... Never this smooth.

Hey, way to go Brother. Congrats! She's really nice! Runs just as smooth as can be. I used to ride a lot, but that was a long time ago, up until 1984. The biggest bike I ever owned was a brand new at the time Kawasaki LTD 750, black w/gold pin stripe. I lived in north Alabama at the time, and all the twisting back country roads through the mountains & hollows was a rider's dream. Those were the days. That's some beautiful country up where you live. Thanks for the ride, I really enjoyed that.........especially on that sweet old classic.

In my early 20s I walked into a Honda dealer in search of a slightly used CB 750, and rode home on the dealer's personal slightly used 1977 GL1000. Other than the tacky Vetter fairing and original saddle, it could have been a twin brother to yours. That driveline whine through the gears is like Pavarotti going through a scale!

It's engine kind of reminds me of that one Russian bike (or is that the other way around?). That engine configuration is suppose to make for a very smooth ride and the gas tank being lower and under the seat probably makes your bike stable as all get-out!

Well a large bike for 1977, but man it looks small compared to the new GoldWing beasts. That is a cool idea with the gas tank under the seat, the small storage box looks much more convince than the tail storage in modern sport bikes.

It's about as good as it gets - from the factory that is. 'Cause - I'm not sure whether you know this, I'm sure most Gold-Wing people still don't - It IS POSSIBLE to put a WIRE-SPOKE WHEEL-SWAP onto the GL1200 - well, onto anything really! There's a wire-spoke CB900C Chopper by "6pkrunner" on the CB750C.com four-um.
Yeah, the CB900C ugly step-child of the Gold-Wing and the Honda FOUR series. But did you know WHY? 'Cause the CB900C rear end is the exact same parts as the GL1100, which is also backwards compatible to the GL1200 as well.
He took a stock hub, spooled it down to a plug, hollowed out a DRUM hub, and welded them together! SIMPLE. Mind-blowing when you realize it doesn't matter what type of hub, so long as the cylindrical "plug" matches the size of the drum hub's outer casting.
And if you wanted a taller rim on it, the Gold-Wing swing-arm CAN be modified with the cross-brace relocated elsewhere, ideally with an under-brace loop just like we see on the '82 AMA Superbike champ AHM "CB750F" like Mike Baldwin & Roberto Pietri rode. Or Freddie Bleedin' Spencer I suppose.
So now that parts such as this are available, the '75-'77 GL1000 no longer has that exclusive Old's-Cool vibe, 'cause you can do the same thing with the GL1200.
The only TRICK being, it would be nice to use the stock rotors rather than SOHC-4 CB750K & GL1000 style 9-rivet rotors on a 6-bolt GL1000 front hub! What we need already exists, it's the Canadian/Filipino only one-year-only POLICE only, "CB750P7-ii" front hub! A wire-spoke DUAL-disc 40-spoke front hub, with the FIVE bolt rotor mounting! Yeah, it's total Unobtainium. But I'm looking at getting a small batch of 'em cast up. Along with a 296mm spec caliper-hanger for the single-puck early type calipers, (as opposed to the 296mm twin-pot caliper-hangers from '81-'82 CBX which I've got on hand right now)
This would be essential to a proper "STEALTH" / "SLEEPER" mod to the SOHC-4 CB750, DOHC-4 '79 CB900FZ, '78 CBX, AND of course the GL1000 itself! Forget about even the 39mm forks, we could use two right-hand-side legs from the VF1000R for a 41mm version (with the quick-release style axle clamps!) which would still bolt straight up to these custom caliper-hangers. Of course, if the hangers must be custom, one might also employ a 43mm fork from later CBR/VFR models! But I'm talking maximum STEALTH here, the type of mods even the show judges might not notice unless they're holding a tape-measure in hand....
It's either that or the WELD-UP FLANGE thing - Don't wanna even BOTHER with the bolt-up flange-plate kits, which use the stock Comstar hub with assembly bolts etc. RIDICULOUS. And adding too much weight - FAR far too much weight!
The CB750P7-ii front hub is about the most lightweight front hub for the GL1000 or CB750 - you can keep the '69-'78 aesthetic yet shave off a ton of weight using '78 CB750A Hondamatic discs - the hub and mounting hardware shaves off around 40%-50% of the mass. No kidding. Pair that to the dished one-piece rotors and you shave fully 50% of the weight off the 276mm rotors on GL1000 & CB550 - Go up to 296mm like CB750K rotors vs the '81 CB1100RB discs or the replica thereof from Metalgear Australia, and you'll shave off even MORE than 50% of the mass -
So the magic minimalist-mass combo would consist of CB750P7-ii hub, CB1100RB dished 296mm rotors, some thin butted spokes perhaps with plated brass nipples for a bit more weight shaving - laced to a nice featherweight alloy rim in 2.5x18" preferably an Akront TR profile non-shouldered/valanced/flanged type lightweight alloy rim.
(OR a rebuilt COMSTAR wheel using the Akront "NERVI" rim - I've got two 2.5x18" & a 3.0x16" on the way in the mail right now, gonna use spokes from the early CM400 1.85x18" single-disc front wheel for that early "SILVER" spoke Comstar style!)

Great choice! That’s an exceptionally nice, clean, low-mileage classic GL. I love the look/style of the old undressed GoldWings! I’ve got a low-mileage, exceptionally clean ‘84 GL1200 in Candy Wineberry Red that I found and purchased about 7 months ago and use as my daily ride to work and back, but I do prefer the black - and those old classic chrome fenders like yours has! You’ve got a beautiful classic GoldWing there! (by the way, ‘77 is the year I graduated out of high school).
Here’s a link to a little video I threw together using photos I recently took of my ‘naked’ ‘84 GL1200. ‘84 was, in fact, the final year of the naked GoldWing (and the first year for the 1200)…

Why not put some tires on your hearts desire? Not gonna sell like that are you Mr car salesmen?

You can’t beat going darkside. Car tires last 5 times longer, cost is much less, and improved aesthetics. Darkside is the way to go on a cruiserbike’s rear wheel!
