Thanks so much for your kind comment! I got the black transparent one, hoping it'd be less of a dirt magnet... Can't say if it's working or not yet haha.
I feel like VRR isn't a big deal if you play games at a capped frame rate which I tend to do since I use Lossless Scaling's frame gen (which achieves optimal results at a capped frame rate). Oculink is too big of a loss because the whole reason why I bought a GPD product was because of the native oculink port to go with my oculink eGPU setup. The fact that GPD still offers the G1 bundle with the 2024 Win Mini makes me scratch my head in their decision to omit this awesome port.
Very fair comment. IMO besides fhd VRR the landscape display does make a difference, but definitely not enough to sell this thing and get the other. I agree about the G1 being bundled, particularly since the G1 has also been updated as well if I'm not mistaken... Strange times indeed. Thanks for the comment!
@@gamers-generation what benefits does landscape have over portrait other than avoiding the headache of getting older games to run? I'm genuinely curious because I have the Win Max 2 which does have landscape and I have a 7840U Win Mini on the way.
@@FS-zt6tm That's mainly it really. You identified the key difference as far as I know. There is one other thing in that AMD FMF *should* work perfectly fine on a landscape but would likely need a custom driver for portrait.
@@gamers-generation also heard portrait could potentially draw more power since it has to convert to landscape (not sure how this works or if this is true). I'd be curious to see if native landscape and VRR can save some battery life.
I have the rog ally and really considering the win mini 2024 mostly for the form factor since I travel a bit for work. Just worried I will regret the money spent but it seems like most people who have one love it! I play mostly pc games and ff14 so having that keyboard seems wonderful!
Thanks for your comment. After doing some quick research, it looks like you can get a 7840U Win Mini (the one I have) for maybe $800-$900 whereas the refreshed (8840U) will still run you around $950+, mind you, both of these options will get the additional 16GB of ram and potentially more SSD space, but... it IS a lot of money,, like $300+... Subjectively, the keyboard is definitely a nice plus even if it takes getting used to. I'd argue though that price aside, if you spend enough time with FFXIV... it MIGHT be worth it? How often do you travel?
@@gamers-generation I was looking at those prices and was thinking, well I might as well go for the new one with such a small gap in pricing if I did jump on it. I have one of those tiny handheld keyboards and a foldable keyboard, but I feel like the built in one would just be so much more convenient. I typically travel 1-2 weeks per month between a work trip and a personal one, so spend several hours in airports and on planes. If I did buy I probably would go through Droix where they have a 14 day return policy and additional support just-in-case there are any QC issues.
