- In 2020 during the Covid lockdown and restrictions, I kept myself busy by building a wood fired oven. Just came across the time-lapse I took and thought I'd chuck it up here in case anyone was interested.
Check out these guys for more building and cooking tips, recipes and how to's. I have found them to be invaluable!

FOLLOWING UP.... SIR THE FRONT DOOR....😯😯😲😲😲😲😳😳😳😯😯😯😲😲😲And TEMP GAUGE....
Hi Hendrik! Thanks for stopping by. I did make a front door from 2-3mm steel, that fits inside the oven opening 😉👍 For the temperature, I use one of those infrared thermometers like this one: www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/Avanti-Infrared-Digital-BBQ-Thermometer?gclid=CjwKCAiA-dCcBhBQEiwAeWidtaVDefUGpoPyPmzxUS5jIgwuoVg-37zokwebSAUZi3xTBKbicudHqBoC-SgQAvD_BwE
I also use one of these when doing low and slow cooks: www.bunnings.com.au/inkbird-4-probe-smart-wireless-bbq-thermometer-ibt-4xs_p0149046
But after using the oven for a while now, you get a feel for the right temperature. Cheers!
Awesome job! How long did it take you in total to build it?
Hey, thanks Rudy! Just the oven, not including the base, took just under two weeks. The base and concrete slab I built over a couple of months prior to covid, working on that whenever I had some spare time. Cheers🤙😉
Great 👍 How do I get this measuring stick?
Did you cut the bricks to size or you bought it like that. ? thanks
Hi Gonzalo, the bricks for the dome I cut in half with a brick bolster. All other bricks that needed precise cuts, I used a diamond cutting wheel on an angle grinder. Thanks for stopping by!
May I ask you about the flue ... you just make perlite or mortar around the flue ??
Hi Harold, I used an old piece of flue in the hole on the arch and filled around it with refractory mortar, then removed the metal flue. I then used a piece of terracotta pipe I had, on top of the arch and held in place with the refractory mortar. Perlite render went on top of that for extra insulation. Hope that makes sense.
what kind of mortar are you using? thanks
Hi! I used a refractory mortar for all the brick joints, similar to this www.perthwoodfiredpizzaovens.com.au/refractory-supply/mortar/. It can withstand the high temperatures and won't break down over time like a standard mortar. Cheers
@@nixter Thank you for the info sir. God bless.
Awesome .. for hire ?
hehe thanks James😉
