  • Enjoy this video as we travel from Chullora (NSW) in the heart of Sydney to Canberra Yard (ACT), 200 meters short of Canberra Station, the end of the Canberra branch line.
This video has been sped up 500x and had music placed on top. Unfortunately the Microphone which usually deals with the wind noise was not used and as a result the Realtime video is just constant wind noise.
This movement was to move the Picnic Train's heritage passenger cars from Chullora to Canberra for the off season and to undertake maintenance work on the cars.
The Picnic Train operates Steam Hauled passenger journeys all over NSW. Check them out below ↓

I will add timestamps shortly for all of the locations.

For this trip I would definitely sit and watch the whole trip even if there was no sound or just wind noise. It passes through beautiful parts of NSW

Love the engineering and trackwork that causes the train to tilt on the bends. We rode the Shinkansen Tokyo to Kyoto and back three weeks ago, and it was amazing to see the carriage tilt as we took bends.

Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video. Great scenes and beats. On the trip past Goulbourn in particular the colours and skyscapes were fantastic. Thanks for posting

Any chance of a slow speed trip to Canberra? I loved the slow trip from Canberra to Sydney

Must say how much i enjoyed the regular speed videos. The speed up version doesn't work for my eyes.

The train I travel on Canberra to Sydney squeaks and squeals on the bends . Poor maintenance and nobody cares.

As no one has replied, here goes:
Trains travel on fixed wheels, on solid axles. Think about it.
When these axles traverse a curve, the outside wheel has to travel further, than the inside wheel. The tighter the curve, the bigger the difference, & at least one wheel is forced to slip, metal on metal!
That's your squeak, & all trains do it...even brand new ones!
It has nothing at all to do with maintenance!
      😅

What do you mean by Sydney station? Sydney Central Station? Just search RUclips for it. This wasn't a regular revenue service, but was taking heritage carriages to Canberra for maintenance and storage over summer, because steam trains don't normally run during summer, too much risk of starting fires. Even then this train passed quite a few stations in the southwest Sydney suburbs.

Great video. You match the music score to the playback speed perfectly. I do question your claim of a sped up speed of 500x. 5 x may be closer to the mark. Everything would be a blur at 500.
