  • We went to Seoul for a week in June 2024. The city is mesmerizing we walked 20000+ steps every day. The city has a charismatic diversity: from traditional and futuristic architecture, street food, aesthetic café to established restaurants. From old palace to bustling shopping streets, river side parks to futuristic megamalls, the visit was full of new experiences.
We stayed in Hongdae, a youthful university café/bar area that deserved its own trip. Over the week, we ventured out to see Seoullo 7017, Coex Mall Starfield Library, Statue of Gangnam Style, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Yeouido Hangang Park, Ikseon-dong Hanok Village, Lotte World, Myeongdong and Seoul Sky. Every place has so much to see and there are so many more places we have yet to visit. We miss Seoul already and wish to go back again soon.
99% of the videos are shot with the new Vivo X100 Ultra. The phone camera is remarkably convenient and robust. The video quality and the zoom capability is impressive. Although heavy for a phone, lifting the X100U to take a video attractives no attention. With the ability to zoom from 1-2 blocks away, it is the best portable people watching device. A lot of the urbanscape clips are shot handheld from the observation deck window, then stabilized in Davinci Resolve. It required a bit of effort but I am able to get great stable zoom videos with the help of post stabilization. There are a few walk around clips I did with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. I might get a phone gimbal for the Vivo phone to test which setup I prefer more.
    Seoul Background Information
With a population of some 10 million people, Seoul is home to about a fifth of South Korea’s total population. It is almost three times the size of the country’s second largest city, Pusan. Seoul is a very crowded city, with a population density that ranks among the highest in the world.
Seoul is the cultural heart of South Korea. It is the site of the National Academy of Arts, the National Academy of Sciences, and nearly all of the country’s learned societies and libraries. The Sejong Center, designed to suggest traditional Korean architecture, is a showplace for both Korean and Western performing arts. The Seoul Arts Center encompasses an opera house, a music hall, and museums of fine arts, calligraphy, and design. The National Theater of Korea is home to three national performing-arts companies in drama, music, and dance. The National Museum houses a wealth of artifacts from Korea’s royal period.
