    I own a 2021 R3-R and it would be one of if not the best bike I've ever owned. And I've owned about 40 top of the line motorcycles in the past 30 years. It's handling and power is just sublime. It's the same weight and lighter than motorcycles with considerably smaller engines eg. Harley Davidson, Honda Gold Wing etc. etc. So for what it is it's not a heavy bike at all, It is truly a feat of engineering.

      My only complaint is the location of the oil filter and what it takes to change it out. It was so easy on my old Rocket. Also they need to make engine guards for these bikes or some kind of protection if they fall by accident.

    I went on a factory tour with a mate. Saw a Black GT in the cafe, was blown away by it. I decided there and then I NEEDED one. So, about a week later, off I went to road test one ( the R version) I was not disappointed. I then saw a photo of the 221 GT, I just had to have one, so I've ordered one 😁😁 can't wait.

    Nice review. Fair and balanced.
    The Rocket 3 is a marvel of engineering. I will resist the urge to bore most of you with that here. Fit and finsh is excellent. This bike is not for everyone. This is not a beginners bike. If you cannot modulate the throttle, do not get on it. The motor is the centerpiece of this bike. Make no mistake, the Rocket hauls ass and has so much torque you can ride it in the wrong gear, not that you want to. It is surprisingly nimble for a big cruiser but is also easy to ride, if that makes sense. That is a result of the weight distribution, quality components and the effort put into the rake and trail and set back spindel of the front wheel that results in stability at speed and excellent cornering capability. A spirited ride is a blast on the Rocket but I find it easy to live with on a day to day basis.
    I have had my R3GT triple black for 6 months now and ride it most days. I ride it whan I have nowhere to go. What you dont see is the shit eating grin behind my tinted visor. It is a fun bike to ride. We have gotten to know each other fairly well and she loves to be pushed. Seems like it always wants more. Maybe that is me? I ride it in Sport mode unless it is pouring rain. It is not a dedicated sport bike and it is not trying to be. It is a muscular, classy and sophisticated cruiser capable of pulling your arms out of their sockets. That said, I have riden more than a minute and had many bikes. I understood what I was getting into and I am very happy with it.
    Something that many non owners do not realize is that the bars, seats and position of the foot controls make a huge difference on this bike. The good news is they are interchangable between the GT and the R models and you can mix and match them to suit your preference and rding style. It is not uncommon for GT owners to swap out the forward controls for the mid controls that come standard on the R. Also, some R owners will get a GT seat for enhanced comfort on longer rides. Swapping the seats takes 30 seconds. I personally like the forward controls but the swept back bars on the GT made the decision for me.
    If you are an experienced rider and get the chance to swing a leg over a Rocket, do it.

    Thanks for the update. You answered some of the questions I had about the new rocket 3. Mainly that rear fender I hate the way it looks. I ride in all-weather so I wondered if I'd be cleaning road grime from my back after rain or hitting puddle. My 2005 rocket 3 weighs around 800lbs, my Triumph Thunderbird around 750lbs. I consider the new rocket 3 a lightweight. It's only about a hundred and forty pounds heavier than a 750 Honda Magna.

      I own a 2015 Rocket. Rode it from Southern Cal to Florida multiple times ( 6,600 miles round trip) PLUS multiple rides all over the USA. Bad weather ( Hail storms. Rain. Winds. 118 degree heat). There is SOME shooting rain from the rear tire to bikes who ride behind you, but I NEVER got soaked with rain or mud. Plan on getting a newer Rocket ( 2020 - 2023). I LOVE this bike and it's the only bike I own.

    Thank you for your report. I havent gotten that far through your video yet but Im glad you mentioned the rear fender, or lack thereof. What crap, having all that exposed tire and all the stuff that throws up. Your comments sure verified my concerns. I understand it might look stylish but wow, how impractical that is. Do you know if you can get a full fender for it? Or at least one that extends back under the overhang? Also, I noticed one of the other comments made mention of a fairing. I sure would want that not to mention handy places to store other things when traveling. I appreciate your video and I wish you well and safe and happy roads wherever they may take you!

    Good review. It's an awesome bike. I test rode the GT cruiser pegged version, that meant I did a kind of unintentional Rossi leg dangle trying to find the pegs (not used to them).
    At very low speeds, round mini roundabouts you are aware of it's weight (and I was a bit wobbly). Once it's moving it is really quite easy. Yes if I had a big enough garage and enough spare cash I'd have one as say a third or fourth bike, but I haven't, so occasional test rides only when I can pretend I'm Judge Dredd or Batman (since I reckon it is the bike they'd ride ! )

    I just picked up a gently used 2020 GT and i am loving it so far. I probably will opt for the mid-control relocation kit at some point. I suppose I'm spoiled by the plantedness i feel on my Thruxton and Trident with their pegs being more directly under me. I do agree that cornering sharply (especially at speed vs from a stop) does take a bit more muscling and careful planning. I am curious, do you find it takes more effort going round to the right than the left? I am not sure if thats just me. 😅

    Honest review appreciated.Lovely bike,but not something I would own as basically it’s just a muscle bike with power that you are never likely to use,and it sounds like a four door family saloon,not a 2.5 litre bike,with no decent aftermarket exhausts available as yet.A possibility a couple of years down the line when they may have ironed out some of the faults,such as key fob issues,the rear tyre splash back,and personally would like a different finish on exhaust,petrol cap etc,as I bet these will be difficult to keep looking good over a prolonged period of time.Must say I was tempted by the all black version,but for the time being I’m happy with my Thunderbird.

    So the risk of losing a large fob is greater than that of losing a small key? Erm... okay! Nice overall summary of the bike. Keep up the good work!

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 года назад +1

      Yep because to start the bike you have to put it in the ignition. The key has to stay ‘in the bike’ all the time it’s running. You know where it is. I wasn’t referring to just generally losing the keys, that risk is obviously the same. I was once behind a couple on a tiger 1200 on the eurotunnel, as they prepared to drive off of the train I spotted the key in one of his pannier locks (which was unlocked). Luckily I was able to quickly grab it and pass to the pillion. I can imagine the problems it would have caused when it eventually shook loose on the French motorway at 130kph! Thanks for the kind words.

      @RichDunn 3 года назад

      @@mancavemoto I am actually a fan of ignition keys and quick-release (no key/fob) fuel caps. Less to go wrong, period. Not sure about your Eurotunnel analogy though! • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 года назад

      Yes the key that flips out of the ‘keyless’ fob. The point being is if he needed to start the bike with a traditional key he would have realised it wasn’t where it should have been. Maybe I’m just forgetful, but I just can’t see the point on a bike 🤷‍♂️

    Although some do not consider the Boss Hoss a production motorcycle I believe it is, cause' you can go to a motorcycle shop and buy one, the R3 is a moped compared to a 632 Boss Hoss, why didn't Triumph make the engine a 3.3 litre? Keep an open mind. If you ever ride one you will likely understand. But you may have to be a Cruiser guy. I own five different motorcycles the R3 is my favorite to ride, that torque is something else. No other bike feels like it. Everyone has something to say about the size and the weight. I'm here to tell you it is of no consequence wether making slow parking lot maneuvers or hitting the Twisties. I only notice the weight when trying to roll it backwards on an incline. But that's no problem since I buy bikes to ride not push around. Not only that but the 2021 model is nearly 200 lbs lighter than the previous models.

    If you can lose a keyless fob, then you could lose a regular key just the same. Dumb reason to dislike the keyless entry.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  2 года назад

      Obviously you can lose a keyless fob the same way to can lose a key. BUT, if you're sat on a standard ignition bike with the engine running you know exactly once where the key is, in the ignition. I saved a guy a few years ago who was just riding off of the EuroTunnel train on his Tiger 1200, with the keyless ignition 'key' hanging out of the lock of one of his panniers. That could have spoiled his trip as it shook itself loose at 130km/h on the motorway! I also know people that have unknowingly dropped a key whilst trying to put it in a pocket and have ridden away leaving the key on the ground. It's not just a case of losing a key, it just puts more unneccesary chance of a problem. Standard keys never run out of battery and they can't be cloned with an electronic device. So maybe no so 'dumb' a reason as you put it?
