James Gunn said he considered having him in the Suicide Squad but since Gunn loves dogs he couldn't go through the idea of a hero killing dogs to weld them onto people so he dropped that idea.
One correction: Dogwelder doesn't go to the Dogwelder afterlife when he dies. He goes there when he enters a pyramid with the rest of Section 8 and John Constantine. That was before they hijacked the rocket to get to space. After he dies from welding the dog stars together the curse is stated to be broken and I presume he goes nowhere or to a different canonical afterlife. Their whole journey is pretty wild but it's entirely possible Dogwelder doesn't exist since it's implied heavily in the Section 8 comics and hinted at in the Dogwelder and Sixpack series that Sixpack is passed out drunk and imagining all of this. John Constantine also had space sex with a pile of organs who is also the girlfriend of Bueno Excellente, a hero who fights violent crime with sex crimes.
I've read every comic that features Dogwelder or Section 8. The Hitman comics with them, the Section 8 series (and the extra Hitman side thing of them) and the Sixpack and Dogwelder series.

Dogwelder is not perfect, he is flawed and definitely not a role model. There are no rituals to follow. There are no holidays. There are no clergy or pastors or ranks. Also unlike many religious people I actually understand the lore. I guess the part that's the same is I like something.

Actually Dogwelder created Anubis. The original Egytpian gods decided to invent death because there were too many people. They also needed somewhere to put all the people who died so they were also gonna make an afterlife. Since managing the afterlife seemed boring they forced an ancient Egyptian welder to remove the head of a young God and weld on the head of a dog to his body. This God then woke up and was outraged. When the welder tried to explain the gods forced him to, they had teleported away. Anubis, newly born, then cursed the welder. This is shown to Dogwelder in the Dogwelder afterlife.
