Enjoyed everything about this post. No live jibbergast was a big positive. Music was not a distraction and your commentary was very much "on point"
Most people have no idea how much work goes into making pots! First wood firing! So happy for you!
oh i wish i had a pug mill. my hands hurt with all the wedging. good job cant wait to see the wood fires!
Wow! That looks like it's better than going to the gym! I love the way you used the batts to run the clay along. I think you deserved a rest after that, but off to the school with your kids, then back home doing some throwing. I bet you sleep well after that. Cheers Bob 🇬🇧
How exciting to be able to see the first beautiful vase that is going into the new wood kiln!!!! Would love to see how you make the lid. Thanks for sharing your talent with us! Your videos are awesome.
Glad to see you throwing clay and not bricks. Keep being awesome man
Fantastic!
Matt thats good that you pug old and new together, I do the same it gives you a good blend of what your working with. I have been watching and waiting for you to finish your kiln and see you new pieces. eddies pottery in Illinois.
Very inspiring. I like your philosophy about bringing added quality of life to people through your work and what it represents.
How do you keep your clay bags from having lots of clay specs in they and then sticking to the new reclaim? Does it matter if it does?
So beautiful. Another great video. You are such a great potter.
Hi Matt. Would love to know the measurement of this pot. Camera makes it look bigger than it is. Looking forward to seeing this #1 pot as it goes thru various stages - i hope you show us that. As we say in Jamaica - Walk Good (have a nice day).
I’ll check the measurements
Is this all the same kind of clay?
love this video Matt :)
I am inspired :)
Hi from northern Japan (where our wheels usually go the OTHER way... ; ) Thank you for sharing your time and skills with us. Also enjoying watching Bill van Gilder and especially Simon Leach (whose famous grandfather Bernard is regarded a treasure here).
So cool to hear of those halfway around the world watching my videos. Thanks for your comments. Cheers!
Beautiful!! Congrats
Question from a novice, in pugging all the clay varieties, are they all the same makeup or will different absorption and contraction/shrinking rates cause cracking while being fired?
The only problem would be if you combined clays that matured at different temperatures.
I’m not a potter but I truly appreciate your work and I could watch you throw pots for hours. I can’t wait until your work is available for sale because I really want a piece.
Thanks for the kind words. I do plan to sell online eventually but in the mean time I will be having my kiln opening sale in October. Otherwise if you see something in a video that you are interested in let me know.
Very Nice! Good Luck with the new kiln.
Thank you
Thanks for doing a video on pugging the clay. I have just purchased a pugmill and there's few videos that I've found on the subject. Love your work and thanks for the videos. I learn something each time.
Love it, and the background music too.
Thanks
Loved the music. I could listen to it again and again. I have a fascination with large pots, too. I bought three ceramic pots while living in Florida. They're each about 26" high, 2 are 3 pc ginger jars and the 3rd is a vase. Never have run across pottery pots the size you make. Those are what drew me to your videos .
Matthew, this pot is a good start to filling your wood kiln, I'm really anxious to see how your first firing turns out. Will continue to follow the progress. What a blessing.Greetings from the south, Dan
Yes. Keep being awesome and amazing! 👍. Juli, Tucson, AZ 🌵
Congrats Matt, how many more this size to make! hehe
Lots! This next few weeks is gonna be wild
Another great video. Beautiful vase from blessed hands!
It's great to be able to come along with you as you begin this new part of your journey - blessings
Congratulations! And nice piece as well.
Good job.....
Thanks
That's a real nice shape. What's the material of your bat please?
Tempered masonite. You can check out my video on bats

I enjoy watching you work, Matthew! The music is so soothing and relaxing. Beautiful jar! I don't know the process for wood firing and so I have questions regarding a wood firing kiln. Do you do a bisque fire in the wood fire kiln first, or use your electric Kiln? When you do the final firing, Will you fill it completely full, or will you do a smaller test load? I am excited to see the results of your first load. I hope you make a video!
I’ll def make videos about the wood kiln firing. I will bisque my work in the electric before glazing and wood firing. I have several friends that glaze and fire greenware in their wood kilns. And I do plan to fill it completely the first time. Hope all goes well.
I’m getting a new wheel soon in the mail. Thanks to you and your videos it really has inspired me. Thank you for getting me back to what I really like
Hooray! Hope you have good success with the new wheel. Make some amazing pots! Cheers
Beautiful!! We all wish we could throw as well. Happy for you man!!
Thanks. Tons of practice.
Great demo Matt. Can’t wait to see the results out of the wood kiln. Love your work and the energy you put into your work. You inspire me!
Thanks!
With all those squats and the music playing, it felt like an 80s workout video for a minute there!
lol
Yes I laughed watching it back also
Matt do you sell your art online?
I don’t yet but plan to build a website when I have the time or $ to pay to have one made.
@@MatthewKellyPottery have you tried etsy?
Very well done. Excited to see the wood fireing process and its results.
