Very nice. All of it. I've had my eye on making a poor over. Looking forward to your wood kiln adventures. Nice to see your children are using the wheel. Thanks again for you time patience and effort sharing your Life with all
Loved the PourOver Coffee Pot and Filter Top. Held my breath waiting for the pour to see how that spout on the pot would pour cause I love the design and wondered if it would pour nice and clean with no backpeddling. Yayyyy. It poured clean. Now I love it even more.
Hey Matthew I made a SHORT of this video for IG. Just posted it. Hope you don't mind. BTW on the spout design above I recently watched a BBC documentary Age of Wedgewood, A Fragile History (I can Dropbox it for you if you want my email is admin@vuthisa.com - I have the full length 58 min movie) and in it Susie Cooper from Susie Cooper Pottery V&A (Stoke-on-Trent, England) talks about her wares - which was quite out there at the time (1930s) with her Kestrel Coffee set 1932. Very Art Deco of course and it reminds me very much of your spout design. She made the spout a feature of the tea and coffee pots but tried very hard to make it a good pourer. Her slogan was 'Elegance with Utility'. You've nailed it. :-) - Kobus Venter (South Africa)
OMG!!!...SERIOUSLY?!!!FABULOUS IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!!.Do u make your own glazes or do u use potter's choice glazes or...what glazes are u using man?!...AWESOME
Thank you. I mix my own glazes. I have tested tons of glazes and continue to do so. I try layering and different applications all the time to see what the result will be. Experimenting is the key!
great! do you tell which glazes are that? I am a painter from germany and could use that because it looks three-dimensional through the shadow by the smal yar on min 5
Gorgeous!!! Your kids are talented too! Chic-fil-a fan here! Well done! Advancer shelves? must look that one up. Oh my goodness, the peacock bowls !!! & the red dinner plates & bowls are beautiful!!! Love the copper treatments! Love the combination of ash with the other glazes! Thanks for sharing with us! Fantastic successful fire!
Thanks! Yes, those are advancer shelves. Those are amazing shelves. The same company is who made the shelves for my wood kiln but not exactly like advancers.
Thank you. Yes I do love what I do. Those shelves are silicon carbide. I bought these second hand but I’m pretty sure they are Advancer kiln shelves. They are expensive but well worth it for any serious potter who has the $ to invest. Cheers! Are you related to the DeLong that purchased from my Etsy sale? If so I appreciate your business!
Matthew Kelly Pottery thank you for the response! I will definitely look into those. I don’t think so, but that’s cool there is someone with my last name. I’m first-generation American and I’ve never met anyone with my last name. But I will be purchasing something as soon as you have more on your Etsy shop! I love your work. I am a career Potter myself and I’m very picky about the items that I purchase from other Potters.
Great! Let your children know I for one will be looking forward to seeing more of their pots. Your pots are no too bad either....terrific actually. Hope you already have a jump start on filling the wood kiln....
They’re all working on pieces here and there. Hopefully they get more into it as I start firing more at home. I’ve just started making pots for the wood kiln a couple days ago.
Beautiful firing! Cant wait to see what happens in the wood Kiln.I have never seen you throw your pour over pots. Really nice style of a spout on the pitcher! Maybe you can share with us on how you make these beauties. i have been attempting to make one for myself, but it is just not coming out right . Thx
Great work for a ten year old wow! Your glazes are so lovely- like sunny day sky haze over a lavender field! Looks like your kiln shelves are still in perfect shape. Snuck off to psalm 127 after reading your shirt. Dremel tool or grinding wheel for that one drippy foot? Like a poppy flower that swooped bowl. Inspiring work! The small bowls are such a bright surprise inside!
Hi Matthew, love your work! Your pots are shiny dark brown at the lower parts. Are they glazed down there or not? I see the bases look like my unglazed pots do all over.
Lovin the glazed I’m liking that gas kiln kinda what I want to build maybe next year not too deep are you firing with propane and if so how much is a firing using generally
Hey Matthew amazing work!!! All the way through that vid I was like wow wow wow! Lol love that red too amazing,so close now to getting bk on the wheel I can taste the clay lol brilliant work 😃
Hi, some of the glazes were so stunning. What I noticed that you made a jug with a cup and it's base as a lid. Where I'm learning pottery from, they say that such sets should be put for bisque with the lid covering the opening of the jug and also while Glazing it's recommended to do the same. They ask to do so that the opening of the jug and lid together will not change the shape, otherwise individually bisqued or glazed, they might shrink differently and not fit. What do you recommend and your experience on it, especially if it's a serving bowl with a lid etc? Also thanks for sharing the videos.
Yeah to put the lid for biscuit and gloss firing can be the best practice for studio pottery. But for mass production, the body is well understood to avoid difference in body shrinkage. Hope this ☝🏽makes some sense to you?
I am in loveeee!

Yes i was concerned myself as to how well it would pour. Haha

Really love your work
Wow, your glazes are gorgeous!!!
what kind of clay do you use/how do you get your pots to have those wood ash looking drips in a gas kiln?
My gas fired work is made out of Hestia from Highwater. The ash look is ash glaze I spray on.
Beautiful, pottery. I love your sons nugget tray!

Just a thought... to keep coffee hot, make a lid for coffee pot for use after removing pour-over. 3-piece set.
Yes I meant to do that and forgot. Thanks.
@@MatthewKellyPottery Great minds think alike .... your glazed pots are stunning ! !
Lovely kiln unloading but can i ask what you are using for kiln shelves and what temperature you are fire to?
Those are advancer kiln shelves and I am firing to cone 11 in reduction.
Oh I love the cranberry red
Beautiful!
What a perfect size kiln. great firing 👍 love the red peacock bowl. 👌👌👌
you say that some of the items you are pulling are for an order. what happens to the ones that dont make the cut?
Depends on how bad they are. Some of them are still sellable and some we use in the house and others go in the trash.
Matthew, beautiful results. Can you remind us of the glaze you used on those large pots? They are gorgeous!
great! do you tell which glazes are that? I am a painter from germany and could use that because it looks three-dimensional through the shadow by the smal yar on min 5
You do beautiful work! Congratulations.
I have pour over, jealousy. Beautiful work! 👍

Do you sign your work or stamp them?
I hand sign all of my work
Thanks Matt, very nice kiln load.
I messaged you about that bowl!
I like your kiln. Did you construct it or purchase it?
I purchased it but any proficient welder could definitely make a frame and then line it with soft brick.
@@MatthewKellyPottery Thank you!
Amazing work! It’s easy to see you put a lot of love and thought into your work.

Hi Matthew! I'd really like to buy that red mug at the 6:40 mark.
Sure thing. Do you need it shipped?
@@MatthewKellyPottery Yes please. 606 Emma Grace Drive, Jonesborough, TN, 37659. Let me know the amount, and I'll put a check in the mail.

Thanks. I’ll consider doing that when and if I make one of them again.
Amazing glazing! Those are beautiful. Show us how you make the spout on that pitcher; pretty cool!! Love the shirt!
Thank you. When I make one of those again I’ll see if I have time to make a video about it.

Thank you. I use a grinding wheel that has an expansion rubber wheel that hold silicon carbide sanding belts.
Hi Matthew, love your work! Your pots are shiny dark brown at the lower parts. Are they glazed down there or not? I see the bases look like my unglazed pots do all over.
The bottoms of most of them are sprayed lightly with my ash glaze which gives them that toasty look.
Lovin the glazed I’m liking that gas kiln kinda what I want to build maybe next year not too deep are you firing with propane and if so how much is a firing using generally
I am firing with propane and I’ve never gauged how much I use. Apologies but I don’t really know.
Hey Matthew amazing work!!! All the way through that vid I was like wow wow wow! Lol love that red too amazing,so close now to getting bk on the wheel I can taste the clay lol brilliant work 😃
Thank you. Plz don’t eat the clay. Haha
You got me seriously considering coming down for Celebration of Potters!
You should!
Love your work! How many extra items do you make when fulfilling an order?
Depends on the difficulty of the piece. I had made 12 plates of each size and needed 10
What wood species do you use for firing? SYP?
We will use hardwood for the first half of the firing, mostly oak. And then yellow pine slabs for the 2nd half.
SIck!
I love the red and blue dinnerware set! Who ever ordered them was one lucky person to get them 😉
😉
Great firing!! Those pour overs are sweeeeet and that red is really dialed in.
Thanks Gene! You should see the green plates that are supposed to be red. Haha
