This one has all of the perfect elements of the classic version (bananas lol, Nilla wafers, maraschino cherries), with some very fun updates to make it less one-note (coconut pudding, lime, tangy whipped cream with greek yogurt).

    I'm so enjoying the direction and production of the Alison's Home Movies. Love her rapport with the film crew; it's like she's teaching them how to prepare these recipes so her instructions come out detailed but also casual. It doesn't look like work, it just looks like fun. A lot of this energy is sometimes lacking in some of the current BA videos post the diaspora of some their more charismatic alums.The fun interaction between the film crew, the other cooks is what made me a fan of casually watching step by step cooking shows of things I will probably never prepare. I wasn't the biggest Alison Roman fan before, but I'm hooked now.

    Watching this channel as a Brit is basically an education in how almost-but-not-quite-the-same American and British English are especially with regards to food. First you threw me off with scampi, now I had to go and figure out exactly what you meant by pudding... For us it is synonymous with dessert, so the idea of layers of pudding within the dessert just sounds really meta....

    • @simpleclaire
      @simpleclaire 2 года назад +3

      I love learning these types of things! It's interesting from an Australian perspective too - here, pudding is much more specific, typically referring to what I would call 'dense cakes served hot with a sauce' (that sounds so gross, but think of sticky date pudding, plum pudding at Christmas, self-saucing chocolate pudding etc.). I'm not even sure what we would call the first component of this dish... Custard maybe? I've never seen this exact type of dessert in Australia either but I imagine it would probably be categorised as a trifle - which I'm sure will enrage English viewers ;)

      I had a terrible moment after moving to California from New Zealand when our new friends came to dinner. I made an apple and raspberry crumble with ice cream and announced "time for pudding!" which resulted in tears from my friend's daughter "that's not pudding! She said we were having pudding!". She recovered quickly and ate a bowlful. My lesson was learned.

      @@simpleclaire oh that is so interesting! i feel like this is a scale of pudding... Australia being very specific, America being a bit more broad but still a somewhat specific, and then you have the Brits' meaning where it is basically a category. language is very cool!

The pudding comes together like a dream and the addition of the yogurt to the cream is genius level stuff. it also halved easily-- in case you're only making the dessert for a few folks. please make this dessert, it'll be one of the best decisions you'll ever make!
