    Remember what his wife said in the letter in the first movie? "Now that I've found my peace, find yours. Until that day, your best friend Helen."
    John finally found his peace after 3 movies. I didn't expect this flick to hit me in the feels by the end.

    To this day, this holds the record as the most phenomenal theater experience of my life. Not just because of the action, the other scenes outside of that were so chilling and quietly badass. And I could feel the vibration of every punch and gunshots in the seats. Saying it was epic is a gross understatement.

      I was blown away when i saw it in theater. There is, in my opinion, a balance between the story and lore, the music, the actors, the fight scenes,... that makes the John Wick's anthology really agreable to watch.
      And, what makes the films original in comparaison with other actions movies is the way fighting sequences are turned: wide shot that turn the action digest, like the corridor scene in Old boy.

    • @billbill6094
      @billbill6094 Год назад +6

      @@Eisenlord I'm willing to bet a few years down the line, the top-down Dragon's Breath scene will be just as iconic as the Oldboy scene. The first movie changed the action genre and gave an industry with a bleak future new life. You couldn't get away with Taken 3 or the third Bourne anymore because general audiences finally remembered what they could have had. Then every single movie after it elevated it with a creativity and style none of the copycats had.
      This movie has the best of all 3 previous movies with none of the weaknesses. It's actually insane how hype it was in theaters. It really has no comparison. Obviously, people still claim the first and only the first was good. But those people haven't even seen the first since 2014. It's legendary, but this is probably the best action film ever made.

      There are a few movies that I have a hard time ranking that were unbelievable in iMAX. Those are Interstellar (space and black hole scenes), Avatar (first one, colors and majesty of the world), Dune (just grandiose), John Wick 4 (top view shots and many more). Those were baffling on the huge screen and sound system either because of the visuals or how some scenes were filmed. As far a theater in general, I have to add Jurassic Park cause it was amazing in standard cinema back then.

    The entire John Wick franchise, since Chapter 2 definitively but arguably since 1, has been video game coded. The fact that they leaned into it, with the Dragon's Breath scene being partially designed by a video game designer, inspired by the director playing a Hotline Miami type game, is amazing. They even brought back the original club music from John Wick, which is iconic at this point.
    And then the timed stair scene which acts like a final boss with two stages. The music getting more tense and the bpm & pitch increasing as he goes higher. That dread when he falls down even one set of stairs. Then he falls all the way back to level one after finishing (which _is_ symbolic, like so much of this franchise. This time of the myth of Sisyphus, pushing the rock up the hill only to see ths end of his impossible task is met with it falling and him needing to do it again, for all eternity. Which incidentally is basically this whole movie.) Onto stage two. And yes, he does complete both stages in the 8 minutes we see he has left at the beginning of the fight.

    if you think about it, either Caine won the duel (he did kill John) and thus Winston ought to be executed, or the Marquis lose (he was the challenged, and he died), with Caine having to be executed due to him being the Marquis' champion.
    I think that, once the Marqui was dead, everyone was like: "Righ, who's hungry?" and decided just let it go

      No my guy ..........Caine was not the Marquis second.......he was a nomination; like a stand in.
      The Marquis just did not have a second/sponsor .......its an option. Caine would be allowed to live if the Marquis lost but without the chance of freedom for him or his daughter. John's case was different. He had a sponsor/second in winston........ essentially they both challenged the Marquis. Caine was pulled into it by the Marquis himself.

    There's going to be a John Wick 5. As you saw at the end when King asked Winston where John was, Winston said "Who knows?" And King started laughing, meaning John could still be alive and is pretending to be dead to liveba quiet peaceful life. There's also going to be a spinoff called "The Ballerina"

      Yes I'm not sure how he would've survived or how it would be tied into the rest of the movies, but it has already been confirmed by the producers as well as more John Wick movies. Keanu said he "wasn't going down that easily"

      A fifth following the chronology would'nt be usefull (who's left to kill AND who wants to piss off John again ?). A prequel on the other hand...Will see.
      By the way, i think too that John's still alive. There is what you say ( the discussion between Winston and the King), but the behaviour of the dog lead us to the assumption John's alive: he bring his head up and look in the distance like he sens a familiar silouhette or smell.

    • @Jirodyne
      @Jirodyne 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@JWFas Except John never got his Revenge. His Revenge was against the ENTIRE Continental. EVERY Head must be killed, the ENTIRE upper leadership out right wiped clean and removed.
      This entire focus, focuses on 1 new guy being granted power to do anything, and John just killing him. That's it. The Marque has NOTHING to do with John's Revenge or war. In fact, I would even argue the duel at the end should have been invalid. Cause it was NOT the POWER nor the RIGHT of the Marque to decided who can or can not be outside the table and obligations.
      Cause how does that make sense? You want out, you have to join a family, challenge another to a duel, and can many ANY REQUEST, no matter what, it will WILL be binding and enforce for the ENTIRE organization?
      At that point, John should have requested for the Death of all those who sit at the top of the Continental, and the Destruction of the organization, since that falls under "ANYTHING" being allowed to be requested.
      In fact, the entire duel part seems... Retconned and plotholed filled. "His Family", for example. John is Excommunicado. The SECOND they let him back into the Family, that ENTIRE FAMILY should have been concidered Excommunicado, Every member hunted down and destroyed, and the entire Family wiped out from the organization. How do THEY have the power to DO BUSINESS and HELP John Wick with no Consequences, when in the third movie, we see the girl who did help him get her hands cut and punished for doing business with him.
      The movie HEAVILY Derails from John's Revenge, and what happened. He should want Revenge, not just on the Elder, but on EVERYONE in the Higher Up, he should have been hunting down and Murdering the Heads of everyone on the Table, and dismantling and destroying the entire Organization as a whole. He gained NOTHING from this movie. Those who wanted him dead, are still alive. Those who ordered him dead, are still alive. The organization leaders who fucked with him and his life, are still alive. Killing the Marque literally changes NOTHING.

    My level of excitement to watching y’all reaction is skyrocketing! The thing is, though, this franchise as a whole, delivers the perfect Hollywood stories ever. The stakes are higher, and it’s not one hundred percent about this repetitive, non-stop killing spree of violence. No. It solely focuses on how these three assassins, under the High Table, trying to get out of this mess they’re in. But here’s when this quote comes in, “Those who cling to life, die. But those who cling to death, live.” It’s very poetic and symbolizes Koji, Caine, and John’s destiny. It even comes full circle by the end of the film.

    The best part about all the John Wick movies comes from after listening to the producer and how they threw everything on the table about what they liked and disliked in action movies and just combined everything they wanted and made a movie about it and went "heck.. it worked?". Going from a stund actor into a producer of a movie that turns out to be one in a generation and then make 3 more that's up on the same level.. it's just amazing!
    All movies feel like they are about 30 minutes long because you cant look away.

    • @billbill6094

      The stunt men are just so invaluable, not only in their performances but in their insight. No other director but someone who does the stunts on screens could make a movie like this. Inherent understanding on what makes good action and the pitfalls of working with the demands of other hollywood directors, who don't consider what's best for the framing and the shots and the choreo. Even with all the budget of a Disney flick nobody could ever recreate this, the first movie redefined the entire action genre with a budget so low from a dying studio that they had to reuse the same 12 or so stuntmen multiple times.
      Keanu Reeves denies it, but he is undoubtedly now one of the great action stars of cinema history. And it's because he put in the work and had a deep understanding of action from throwing himself in it, coming from more lighthearted movies, and listening and learning from the best. What other semi-retired A-list actor could gain so much good will in the stunt world that his former stunt man from a decade before changed the entire script of his debut movie, John Wick, to fit Keanu for the role?

    John Wick 1 and 4 are great bookends, where 2 and 3 really established the world, Chapter 1 and 4 really take's it's time and give us great character moments, like Caine could of been just another guy to kill John, but they have history and he's reluctant because he's only doing this for his daughter, so much more motivations to care about in this one.

The series has only one season with 13 episodes. I truly believe this show would’ve been really successful in current times. “Political Animals” is another series that’s only one short season and it was pretty great. This movie is definitely a course-correction of the two sequels that came before, and it's because of the new writers they brought in to replace the guy who wrote the first three films. As for the ending, I have a feeling that they left it open-ended just enough for John Wick to still be alive (if you wish to know the hints and clues I've found that imply Wick is still alive, just ask away), as they should have known that a 5th installment was a possibility.

    • @billbill6094
      @billbill6094 Год назад +1

      I didn't think the sequels were at all bad. The studio was heavily responsible for 3 being almost no story of symbolic. Right before 4 was announced to have the longest runtime, Keanu said that they cut off huge amounts of the story in 3 and "took our film and turned it into a movie." He was happy they were allowed to keep all the story in here. If not for the studio messing with a franchise they didn't get, I think 3 would've been a mini 4. I would love a director's cut, though it still wouldn't beat 4.

      Same. I'm slowly coming to terms with the ending since seeing it in theatres. They've just set the bar so high on this one in terms of cast and action it'll be hard for the next one to top this.
      I think the only ways the next one would make sense would be giving people what they want and either do 1. the prequel of him getting out or 2. Killing the rest of the High Table. Although I'd be ok with them exploring the latter responsibility in the Ballerina spinoff

      This has been said ever since 1. In my opinion, I don't think they need a 5, but I REALLY don't want the spin offs. The Ballerina is starring a character who was literally just a background dancer and nothing more in 3, with none of the original writers, with the director from the Underworld abominations. Admittedly Ana De Armas deserves another action role, she kicked ass for her limited time in 007 No Time To Die. But I can't help but think Lionsgate is only doing this because they know only John Wick makes money (Chapter 3 had a higher grossing domestic opening weekend than Avengers Endgame. Literally beat the most anticipated movie ever, for a little while.)
      But it seems as unnecessary as Sony with El Muerto. "Just take a character with literally no clout and cast a famous handsome/pretty actor for the lead with no more consideration." If they're bad I will pretend they didn't happen and 4 was the last, like a gamer pretending MGS V was the last game and Survive didn't happen.

Not a lot of reactors have reacted to it, but it's a bona fide classic and a household name due to the subsequent interest in poker it generated in the American public afterwards. Rounders did for poker what The Queen's Gambit did for chess!
    And yes, a blind man can read the cards like Braille! Strongly recommend checking out the name Richard Turner - a master of sleight-of-hand and card manipulation techniques, who's also completely blind and whose fingertips are so sensitive that he can indeed read the card faces like Braille and sense small imperfections in the card stock.

And yes, that is a fat suit - one of the few acceptable uses in cinema. When Keanu was interviewed about the notable martial artists he got to work with on this film, he made the point of naming Adkins as well where the interviewer did not - Mr Wick puts respect on the names of those he rumbles with.

    1:26:10 the things you lads say here is very poignant. This man was a kind hearted man forced into darkness to survive. He always wanted to be a good man, for a lot of reasons, and the world he was part of wouldn't let him. Now this could've depressed and destroyed a person, easily, especially after losing what he loved most and worked hardest for, his wife and every shred of her.
    "The freedom to die." Depression destroys your will to keep going. "It's like he needed to live long enough to become someone who COULD die, truly." The closest two times John comes to depression and utter self destruction are the days after losing Helen, and his time in the desert with the first Elder of the Table when he gave away his ring... he was sacrificing the last tangible pieces he had left of her, CHOOSING to do so... in a vain hope that he'd be allowed to cling to the shreds of their time together that stayed in his soul.
    The cost of that though, WAS his soul, and he didn't realize it until back at the Continental where he nearly kills Winston. Lady D'antonnio even said it to him earlier in the second movie, "what would your Helen think...?"
    So ultimately, he started destroying everything around him in an attempt to preserve what he felt was left, in anger, bargaining, even letting his closest friends suffer the consequences of his actions. Right up until acceptance, and it was finished. He finally saved his friends by doing the right thing, and gave himself over fully for love.
    The John Wick series is "The Stages of Grief, as narrated by enormously powerful stuntmen/martial artists." To me, anyway.
